  • Nikki Sixx, born Frank Feranna, December 11th 1958, in San Jose, California would come from what you could call the classic American Broken home. Raised by his single mother who was just 19 when she gave birth to Sixx, often spent more time partying than mothering, and by his grandparents after his father left the family. Sixx had spent many years trying to figure out what happened to his father. He seemed to have just abandoned the family when Nikki was very young, too young to even remember.

I was 16 the first time I heard Shout at the Devil in 1983. I was hanging out a Mall in South Jersey. I heard the opening riff in the record store and asked the clerk 'who is This?' I immediately bought the cassette and ran out to my car and cranked it up full blast. The next day when I pulled into the parking lot at school everyone wanted to know who was playing when I pulled up. That cassette stayed on a constant loop in my car stereo for the next 7 months. About a week later the Crüe were on heavy rotation on MTV. I'm glad I grew up in the 80's, it was totally radical.

@scottnorris8071 Yes, they are. They're pioneers of heavy metal. In the early 80s, there were some 70's bands that kept going and were considered hard rock. Black Sabbath never knew they were the godfathers of heavy metal yet to almost everyone they are. To me, the first heavy metal albums were "Number of the Beast," "British Steel," "Fair Warning," and "Too Fast for Love."

Motley is not metal. Just because the media labeled them, and the other LA glam bands of the early to late 80’s “Hair Metal” doesn’t make them metal. They’re a hard rock band. Ask Metallica, or Slayer if they think Motley Crue are metal.

So what you are saying is Mick doesn't deserve anything? The name Motley Crue is his name. His health is why he can't tour anymore, not drugs or alcohol. Mick was the only one who never got in trouble, arrested for stupid shit or killed anyone. As much money as Motley makes will it kill them to pay Mick what he's worth? Sorry but I'm siding with Mick on this one. I'm sure if you were in Micks shoes with all of this you would be suing too. As for Vince and Tommy they had law suits against the band so they would get paid and they did, just wasn't as public as the legal shit with Mick is.

Mick is not the bad guy here. He told them he could no longer tour and those 3 pricks were trying to f**k him out of his 25 percent share . With the new footage of Nikki being caught not even playing when bass sounds eminate in the background I think everything Mick said about them for years was true. To me they Sold out after SHOUT ( their masterpiece) cuz theatre of pain f*****g blew . The raw sound they had on SHOUT separated them from the rest and like total drug addict assholes they just forgot the fans for whom without Motley Crue would have never been shit. It would have been better had they all went down in a plane after SHOUT cuz they would have gone out on the highest note possible with their music becoming immortal instead of the laughing stocks they have become with Vince hyperventilating every 8th lyric, Nikki pretending to play and Tommy being the jackass he,s always been. SHOUT WILL REMAIN THE GREATEST R&R ALBUM OF ALL TIME FOR ME. RIP MOTLEY CRUE.

I think their truly one of the greatest glamrock and heavy metal band of all times. They all have been through a lot at different times and that really impacted their relations and their music. Still tho they can still rock, i believe. Im looking forward for more music from this band because they really have something most of bands don't have. It's kind of sad people think they're trash because of their stories, great bands always had really bad times, it's how they deal with it that matters. Motley had very hard times and they managed those problems in a good and bad way. Afterall, Motley can still bring something up to music, at the condition they can continue all 4 for the sake of their great music.

I grew up with this band, my all time favorite, a child of the 70's and a teenager of the 80's. I naturally gravitated towards Tommy as I started playing drums at age 8. I've seen Motley 6 times (1st was the Dr. Feelgood tour 1990) as well as Vince on his solo gigs 3 times. To be able to stand 2nd row in a small club type venue mere feet from Vince was awe inspiring. He acknowledged the Crue shirt I was wearing (Motley's 1st show at the Starwood) with a thumbs up, fist pumped me and handed me a guitar pick. Last time I saw them was the Stadium Tour 2022 in Edmonton, Alberta. Really don't care if they used backing tracks or Nikki never played his bass, it was a great show. Can't forsee myself seeing anymore shows now that Mick has retired but these guys were (and still are) the soundtrack of my life.

Motley Crue were not Satan worshipers. Crue was my favorite band as a teen. None of us went around worshipping Satan because we listened to Crue. Sure, they were reckless, wild, hard rock, partying animals, but nobody was worshipping Satan. They were the Bad Boys of Rock and lived up to that title tenfold. Compared to today's rock bands singing about heroin, depression, and suicide, Crue was pretty tame.

Had he cleaned up his act and made sure the 2 innocent victims wanted for nothing the rest of their lives I could believe he was sorry. But what does that POS do. Cranks up his drinking and drug abuse 10 times while galloping around the globe treating women like they were receptacles for his dick to stay well oiled . His daughter dying was just life. Hundreds of kids die every day from one type of cancer or another. Why was his daughter anymore special than the other 99. I quit buying their shit after SHOUT. They absolutely peaked at SHOUT and TOP was a freaking embarrassment with Dr feelgood pretty much putting the nails in the coffin for me. I LOVED THEIR 1ST 2 ALBUMS BUT AFTER SHOUT saw them for what they became. Ungrateful drug addicts that forgot their fans and believed their own press.

Cause they suck? As a child of the 80s, I grew up on their music videos. By my mid 20s, (1995), I knew they were misogynistic pigs. Once The Dirt was released in 2001, it confirmed for me that all 4 members of MC were horrible human beings. The only record of theirs that I can still listen to is Crue94 with Corabi on vocals. Most everything else they’ve done (lyrically) is misogynistic juvenile garbage.

Again, I know they aren’t one of the greatest bands ever musically, and may come off as douchey sometimes haha. But nothing beats a prime Crüe, a perfect blend of heavy metal, with pop choruses. A blend of horror mixed with glam, mixed with biker. A real Motley Crue of distinct characters who definitely influenced a generation. Maybe not for the right reasons, but a lot of people followed in their footsteps. No they weren’t as good as bands like Metallica, or Megedeth, or G&R , or acts like Aerosmith, or Stones. But I always box them in with them because they started the whole 80s glam thing, but still kept it heavy, and while other bands like Poison went more pop. They weren’t the most gifted song writers but they played memorable heavy riffs with some distinctive vocals that made them stand out and made them succeed. And for me they opened me up to Metal and the whole 80s rabbit hole. I grew up with bands like Blink and Green Day at the center of the world, and bands like Motley were on VH1. But they were the first who introduced me to the genre, and metal, and horror and stuff like that. Even tho they were glam at times, I still think of them in the same group as Metallica and Megedeth and Slayer and G&R. Just metal and rock all the way baby. Let’s appreciate it all.

    • @ipod9771

They must’ve been really rad coming out of the 70s. Similar image but with a heavier sound, eventually incorporating the booming horror industry and horror imagery, mixed with party rock anthems. A true movement
