I think helping one another is the most powerful thing. Any good feelings someone might get from practicing a religion isn't going to help others around us, we need empathy and humanism in action for that. Whether Christian, Muslim, Jewish, atheist, etc. we have the power to actively help one another. That is where real change happens.

Wow, reading some of these comments, I realized that people need to actually listen to the song. It's naming off many of the issues today and not stressing that all they do is pray. They are saying that we as a whole can make a deference, even if its just one of us and they pray for a better day. Because its no secret that this Nation is going down hill. So if everyone truly tried to make a difference then this place would be a better place and That's why they pray.
Firstly, you never asked me to prove myself. I used to be an atheist, just like you. Until my mom came down with lung cancer. I was surprised, my mom wasn't a smoker. The doctors told us the cancer was spreading quickly. I hadn't been to church in about 6 years, but my mom told me to go and pray for her. I did this as many times as I could. The preacher and everyone in the church would pray for her. They removed a lobe of her lung. She has been cancer free for 3 years.

In highschool(when this song came out), I sang this song in my truck and I always felt a sinking feeling in my heart, at that part. Simply cause I couldnt comprehend such hardships to truly drive me from God. That is, until I lost my military/FD careers, the girl I loved more than anyone, my house, many family members, my health, and partially, my sanity. I never denied God's existence, but He showed me what it takes to create such doubt in yourself and your complete existence. I still have yet to figure out why I had to endure these trials, but I can only hope and trust that it is for a good reason. I figure I got nothing to lose. I cant be like everyone else. All I literally have, is God. Without Him, I got nothing.

@@654Crossman God gives us Christians many challenges in life so we will stay close to Him! True we may be angry and not understand but He knows and brings us back! Just know you’ll be with Him and your loved ones in Heaven one day! One point I have always noticed. You see most rich people, politicians, socialists, celebrities and other groups on TV or the news and they always seem happy, have big houses, fancy cars, lives of luxury. But you also see most sinners in these categories. I don’t know if I learned this in the Bible or if it’s just a feeling I have but I think God gives these people everything and what do they do but squander their lives away and turn from God. I think He lets them have everything now because they won’t have anything in hell! While we who suffered on earth and still believed will have everything in Heaven including God’s presence! Just IMO.
This reminds me of why I am apart of the Catholic Faith. Sometimes I stop praying or think Mass is a waste of time but then I listen to this song and it reminds me of why I started there in the first place.

I'm an atheist and still love this song. Remember what it says in AA. God as you understand him/the concept of a higher power. If that's Yahweh, Vishnu, Allah, the idea of karma or the flying spaghetti monster, who cares? It's about helping your fellow human and striving for better. Not for the assurance of eternal life but practicing good for good's own sake.
But who defines good in that statement? I think this song is what it says, about praying to God because we need God, we need to pray...if humans alone set the standard for what is good and what isn't, there would be so much confusion, bc obviously not all people can agree

I have this song for two years now and everytime I listen to it....it touched my emotion to the deepest of my core and tears just flowing from my eyes cuz there are so much emotional pain going in this world.
We all have reasons why we choose to do things. I personally love "That's Why I Pray" because I do pray and it's for OUR country and all of you people. This country is too divided. Also, Big & Rich's emotion while singing this song is stunning. I wish we all had that same emotion without name calling, pointing fingers, ^^%$^ symbols and the rampant hatred we show each other.

raging Gaming my dad was a cop for 21 years and he had to move our family 1200mi from Oklahoma because me and my sisters were bullied to a point and I couldn't take anymore longer than my sister could and failed to kill myself and I was becoming anorexic and cutting and was so quiet but now I am a better person I have gained weight have more friends and haven't been bullied as much I am a helper when someone tells me about bullying that's why I pray now

I can't speak for the others, but the belief in God is not my problem. My problem is the belief that asking God is the best and in some case only solution. The song sends the message "We have many problems, we should do something!" but then offers "prayer" as the only option. I just don't want people with great, noble intentions (as I'm sure many of you are) not doing as much as they could because they think prayer is enough.
God hears our prayers. He answers all prayers. It may not be the answer we wanted.
