    Let's goooo! Super smooth send, Ozzy! 👌🏼 James should have gotten red trash bags so then they'd be RUBY SLIPPERS. 👠

    Really interesting watching what James puts in to have that first go.
    Curious about the general rules are for what holds you can feel, anything that you can touch from the ground? Or would you be able to get a ladder out if the boulder was higher?
    Always love the break down of moves 👍

    James learns as much as he can before the climb whereas you learn as much as you can while climbing. Two different approaches, same result. Flashes are overrated! Haha. Congrats on the send!

      True! Glad we got the same results on this one!

    Is a flash not negated after you touch the holds? I remember watching Ondra's videos on flashing and he abides by that standard pretty hard. Maybe it's different for bouldering but that would surprise me.

      Mostly about pulling on, his feet never left the ground. I’d say yeah probably shouldn’t handle all the holds, but it doesn’t matter. Everyone can decide how to enjoy the sport their own way. He did a hard climb first try after feeling holds, I’ll respect that he climbed hard.

      On that note I wouldn’t count it for myself, but congratulate and accept anyone else who does. Send and have fun

      A flash to me is sending a climb the first time you pull off the ground. If I remember correctly Ondra some weird qualifications for what’s allowed in a flash (you’re not allowed to rap the route and see holds, but you can get a video, and you can use binoculars from a tree, and you can also touch the starting holds but only the starting holds) so the definition is very gray.
      Some people say you can’t feel holds, some say you can (because it’s literally 3 feet off the ground and not hard to get to them 😂)
      I draw the hard line at pulling off the ground.

      @marshallarts507 Watch Ondra's jade flash. He gropes the holds pretty hard before he flashes it.

    Can it be considered as a flash attempt since you have touched and grabbed every single hold of the boulder? I guess opinions are everywhere in this case… 😅

    • @rockentry
      @rockentry  6 місяців тому +4

      Yup, as long as you send the climb on your first attempt it’s still a flash.
      When you send the climb on your first attempt without any prior beta or touching the holds, it's considered an onsight.

    • @ddemyanek
      @ddemyanek 6 місяців тому +6

      It’s a fine line, but the general rule is that you can feel all the holds, but you can’t weight them - like if he had pulled his feet off the ground and hung from the holds then it wouldn’t count. You can see that he always keeps his feet on the ground.

    • @MF-CLIMB
      @MF-CLIMB 6 місяців тому

      @@ddemyaneknah not having that

    • @james-climbs-soft

      Flashing has a lot of qualifiers in the gray area. Ondra says you can do a lot of things but can’t do other things that are similar (you can touch the start but nothing else, you can get a video but not rappel down the route, you can onsight with hung draws sometimes but other times not)
      When it comes to a boulder where every hold is 4 feet off the ground, I prefer drawing a hard line that says:
      Sending the first time you pull off the ground.
      And that’s the definition I use for a flash.

    • @erickrivera440
      @erickrivera440 2 місяці тому

      Yeah but it looks like he put weight on the holds around the 9 min mark, he just doesn't lift his feet off entirely

  • @MF-CLIMB

    Holding all the holds then claiming a flash 🤔
