I do a 3 floor farm with no electricity. They call me the Hemperor on my server. I never left my base. I did all my trading with a local clan who farms military tunnels. After they cleared tunnels, they would bring me their unwanted items. I bargained for their loot with cloth. Eventually I upgraded into a bunch of vending machines to keep the cloth flowing. Ive never had a more fun wipe spent researching every blueprint in the game.
I found building a Fishery for trout on the first level to be a good start, because don't need BPs, tarps and any HQM to start fishing. Then install the Hemp/scrap farm on the second and higher levels as you collect the basics for the hemp farm. You can drop farming the fish after the uppper levels start producing hemp, if that is your choice. The minnows from the fish farm can be composted for either sale as Fertilizer at the Bandit camp or used to Fertilize the Hemp farm. This method provides a steady supply of fertilizer. But I have not done the math to see if it is more profitable to use or sell the fertilizer. The hemp farm also gives you the cloth needed help you to fix your fish traps (small amount needed) and to convert the Trout to low grade, if you want to go that route.
Yeah but you can use the minnows to catch trout to? I don't know if it's more efficient than pickles or not, I'm just saying you can keep those to keep running the trout rate? Will it give you any more Trout the more food you have or is it just one for trap for 10 minutes or what?
@@GrandpaRust Unfortunately minnows can't be used as bate anymore. Most people just eat them as finger food, but as you can tell, I dumb them into a composter. Pickles are the best trap bait, because you can go through 10 pickles in 30-40 minute just with one trap. Multiple that by 15-20 traps, you will need a good supply channel for any other type of bait. Each trap resets within 2-3 minutes, so you have to run by and open them. You don't need to empty them, just open. My test has shown that it does not matter how much bait you have in the trap (1 or 30) the yield is the same. I find putting ten in the trap is simplest, and also to do it at the same time as you are repairing the trap.
I tried a fishery in the first floor but then I couldn't replace it with water pumps later since the fish traps demand a shalow water. But can be a good start if you dont want the pumps in the basement.
@@leej296 I appreciate that. Thank you very much. I haven't used fish traps since 2018 on a map with no monuments so there was nothing to do but mess around with stuff LOL. I appreciate the knowledge on this one will help me as I think next wipe I'm going to try using a fish trap base..
@@twinhalf5806 Good Point. Before I posted my comment above, I had to place my pumps on the outside of the base in the deeper water. Nobody seemed to bother them. But since then I learned a new tactic when placing your base location. Find a point near shore where your traps turn blue, but don't place a trap yet. Then place a foundation in the same area, just below the water line enough to be submerged. Then notice that a trap can be placed on the foundation. (twig foundation is best to test if you get the spot right.) As long as the next foundation is still underwater, you can place a trap on that foundation too, even if the water would be normally too deep for a fish trap. After the first foundation, you can place as many as you want, just keep them in water. You can even remove the original foundation or lower the foundation into real deep water and build up to the original water level just below the water surface. The traps will still be allowed to place. This allows you to place in deeper water for your pumps, and expand into a wider area. Not just being limited to a sweet spot near the shore. My last wipe I had my base starting six foundations from the shore, (removing the original six twig foundations) requiring either a person to swim or use a boat :) I suggest trying it out on a builder server first.
I know this video is old, but the Advanced Tips/Tricks at 10:08, where it chains TCs using (fluid combiners/fluid pump switch/small battery/solarpanel) to move fresh water over a far distance is awesome. Currently using that in current wipe where fresh water river is at the bottom of a mountain area and my farm is high up. The chaining TC technique still works as of today, thanks for sharing that !
Update: CLOTH TO SCRAP GOT NERFED and you can now only sell every 5 mins. That means that unless you're on a modded servers with no sale cap (default is ~5mins), you won't get lots of scrap, if you want more than you can sell, I would recommend berry farming for scrap tea instead! It was pointed out to me that you don't need the fluid combiner if you're using fresh water. You can simply run each pump into 4 sprinklers. Which means that if you go up floors you only need 1.5 pumps per floor. Instead of having a solar panel per TC in the advanced tips, use a chain of E branches, similar to the flow of water, which e branch powering the next fluid switch. You can actually use 6 lights per floor. Place 2 per 2x3, check my discord for the exact setup in FAQ. Pumps now must be placed in water, build similar to a large furnace or oil refinery base and place them inside water.
@Tamura77, at 8:43 you say "Each floor uses 24 power so with a medium baterry you can have two floors". I think every floor is 26 power though (2*8= 16 for lights, 2*5=10 for pumps, 10+16=26) However, since you can have two floors with 3 pumps (no fluid combiner needed), a medium battery will only be able to support two floors if you have 3 pumps instead of 4.
i have about 15 solar panels (work perfectly most of the time), 2 Pumps 1 Purifier, 6 sprinklers on JUST 4 Planting boxes, and still they get too less water sometime (purifier is always full btw)

I just want to add that you you can put tc and and a large box on a square, honey comb that with metal and seal it in with hqm to create a suicide bunker. Makes it a minimum of an 18 rocket raid which is a ridiculous amount for a farm base and maybe make it so raiders don’t even bother completing the raid as they will see it will be way too expensive and most likely not worth. You can also add an external tc so raiders will be even less likely to grief ur base. I hate suicide bunkers, but for a farm base like this it makes perfect sense. The only thing you really care about protecting is your tc so your base can’t be grieved. All your farm loot should be transferred to your main anyway. This means you’re not going to need to use the suicide bunker much which makes it perfect for farm bases. If you don’t want to use a suicide bunker you should at the very least use a vending machine protected tc (still works after vending machine update). This makes it so they have to break a vending machine and door to get to your tc.
I always have a separate 2x2 (usually in my main base) to constantly clone plants. This way the farm is always producing and I dont have to worry about the water cycles at all
Stacks of pickles and a composter or two make heaps of fertilizer for me personally, what I would still love to see is a perfect build, as I've messed around but am still unsure, where it's based around less optimal levels, such as a solo farming around a spot without even fresh water, I've been doing the 3x2 per level this way and am unsure if the light to sprinkler to planter is max efficiency for the least amount. Also, I have even used the manual firepit version of the water purifier for my farm before too as it's powered just needs a constant fire to run, was thinking about applying a switch to igniters to be even more lazy with that technique.
May you do a experiment to show us if it is worth to combine the fish farm with the hemp farm in order to use the fertilizer on the hemp for mor profit?
Only in large groups could I see someone running both farms; as fish farm requires constant maintenance. Using the fertilizer on the cloth is 100% worth it for those elite farmer clans, though I don't have the numbers to do it myself.
Hi there! I was recommended that I seek out your help with farming and water. My goal is to fill the vehicle fluid tank which can hold 200,000 ml. Automate it so I don't have to transfer water with the water jug all day. I'll try out combining several water sources first, because with one source of 50,000ml (completely filled large watere catcher) it is taking forever to get that into the tank for some reason. Source -> Pump -> Tank. Right? But only getting 3ml per second. That is extremely slow. My question is: How do I transfer water very fast from one container to another?
if you're going to use a water tank, the best you can do is have a small base next to a fresh water source, with WATER PUMPS. Don't use water catchers period. Use the pumps and fluid combiners to pump water into the truck, then drive back to your farm base and unload there. Water can't be transferred very quickly, the best bet is to use fluid combiners and multiple water pumps in a river/lake directly into a truck. Manually speeding up the process by using jugs whilst its doing it automatically. The water truck is more of a gimmick IMO, you're better off living near fresh water or flying back and forth (ideally with a group/partner) with a full inventory of water jugs (5scrap each at bandit).
@@tamura77Rust Aw man, I was afraid I'd be stuck using the water jug a lot. It's fast but it would be nice to have a quick automated water transfer system available. I don't have a heli but I can modify my truck to a double inventory module full of jugs I guess, and hope that the new water themed update will change or add something new to us farmers. Thank you very much for the help nonetheless, subbed and will recommend your channel to others who want to learn!
My Dear Fellow Farmers : put one auto turret + LR per hour in your base! also you can buy metal frag from outpost trust me LMAO and if server is busy and you dont have access to water just buy 30 jug water from bandit and fill them from lake or river and then back to base! (one box full 5000ml will cover you easily!)
You don't want the outer sprinklers to hit the middle 6 planters. If they do, the water distribution will be uneven and some plants will not get enough water.
I filled the planters to 9000 full, but they slowly lose water even with the sprinklers set up correctly and always on. What gives? Do I need three sprinkers instead of to pairs you show? When connecting the sprinklers, it says I need a pump.
I built everything just like in the video but I can only power three lamps with an output i have enough energy for it but the last lamps just wont turn on
cost of all the mats to make the full first floor would be nice just to be ready to build it faster :) like all the stone, metal frag, wood and components
I built a similar farm this wipe and a horse farm with 12 horses! Sadly I noticed that the horse dung was nerfed and you can't make explosives out of fertilizer anymore. Also I realized that the hemp at bandit was nerfed too. Such a painful update...

ive got 4 pumps, 2 fluid combiners, 1 wwater purifier, and that water purifier is going to the 6 sprinklers. only the first 6 planters are getting water?
if u make 2 stories with 18 planters each, u get 72k cloth in 6h if u have GGGGYY(4 harvests) but if u have GGGYYY u get cca 60k cloth in 6hours(3 harvests) , so for tryharders go 4Gs every time
any reason why the plants would be receiving no water when 2 sprinklers directly above are supplying water constantly?!? Manually watering the plants works
Hey, it's a great video. I try to copy your setup excactly, but still some of the planters doesnt get enough water. I tried compensating with extra water, but that seemed to have the opposite effect. Now I need to manually water the planters between each harvest, which is a pain in the ass. Any tips to get the watering automated again?
I'm kinda new to rust, how do you get rid of all that cloth? as the bandits only buy like 800 cloth at a time and then you have to wait for ages for it to restock, am I missing something?
this was a more recent hard nerf, the way around it is that you either sell in stages or you play on modded servers (most have cap removed). Or just berry farm
I watched the video quicky while building, so I missed the part about leaving gaps between the planter boxes. How's the gap affect the lighting and sprinklers? Haven't had a chance to grow anything yet.
The sprinklers will over water certain planters, lighting will be fine. The only way to fix this issue is to add more sprinklers where you see planters getting under watered. It's complicated and different that's why I stress the gap.
@@tamura77Rust Thank mate. So does 9k water translate to 71% water condition? If that's the case it's okay because I won't be using fertiliser. Unfortunately don't have access to a river because my team mates picked a terrible spot. A few questions; what's the best way to manually water multiple planters at once? Stand in the middle of 4 and dump 5,000ml jerry can? And can large water catchers keep up with this sort of sprinkler system or am I shit out of luck? Thanks again.
@@snoweh1 shit out of luck. Water catchers drop no where near enough water. Your best bet is to get plaa water truck or fly an inventory of jugs (buy heaps at bandit) to transfer water. I would give up farming without a water source for this wipe imo. Up to you though. There is no best way to water, it will divide the 5L by how many planters you hit (which can vary)
@@tamura77Rust I've set up 5 water barrels (for one floor) and have 2 boxes full of water jugs. Been using this for 4 days now and it works well. It's a massive pain in the ass compared to building your base in water, but it works. Just built a car lift into the base and have a full 200,000 ml tanker on the back. Not gonna lie it's been pretty fun driving/flying cross-country to get water, but I wouldn't build the base outside and away from water again.
@@tamura77Rust My problem is where I want to put the water pumps, if I put foundation under water so I can build the outside wall I am unable to place the pumps in the water but if I build the outside walls and then destroy the foundation it also destroys the walls. For the part about using an XXL Picture Frame, are you saying to spend 500 cloth to make the picture frame then recycle it down to 100 cloth? I'm going by the recycle numbers here: rustlabs.com/item/xxl-picture-frame#tab=recycle
Holy shit, what were the rust devs thinking, making this so extremely complicated. Now it feels like I have to dedicate my wipe to building a farm and maintain it, or, actually play the game.
What about timers for this setup (1 floor) ? Do we still need to restrain water to reach perfect water level, with timers ? More accurately, how do you reach the 100% water condition on this setup ? (implying oc I've got unlimited fertilizers)
@@tamura77Rust Ok If I get it right, time #1 is watering duration and time #2 is not watering duration. Based on a video you linked previously (ua-cam.com/video/r7W9sWY1OCQ/v-deo.html>). So 45s of water and 47s of nothing, in order to stay between 4,5 - 6,5L.
Build the farm, or base in general, along a coast that leads to the ocean and use a boat to farm mass barrels and crates unbothered out in the ocean, use a diving tank to abandon boat if you get attacked and bring your loot back to base. I've got mass BP's solo doing this a long time, works even better to build near some kind of recycler, even better if it's a coast near bandit or Outpost.
sprinklers ONLY maintain water level. Either let it go to full water BEFORE planting or fill it manually then the sprinklers should be able to hold the water level.

Great video and thank u for those informations
another great vid bro
My Dear Fellow Farmers : put one auto turret + LR per hour in your base! also you can buy metal frag from outpost trust me LMAO and if server is busy and you dont have access to water just buy 30 jug water from bandit and fill them from lake or river and then back to base! (one box full 5000ml will cover you easily!)
Electric heaters do warm up plays btw
please send proof to my discord, I tested it and saw zero results.
@@tamura77Rust I also got zero results
Enjoyable content :D very helpful
If I am nowhere near a water source and don't have minis or anything like that could I theoretically use water catchers?
No, the rates are too low
@@tamura77Rust ok thank you for telling me
Why do you place a gap between the planters? I'm guessing it has something to do with the sprinklers. Great vid btw
You don't want the outer sprinklers to hit the middle 6 planters. If they do, the water distribution will be uneven and some plants will not get enough water.
I learned so much about water and power
I filled the planters to 9000 full, but they slowly lose water even with the sprinklers set up correctly and always on. What gives? Do I need three sprinkers instead of to pairs you show? When connecting the sprinklers, it says I need a pump.
god i love your vids dude
I built everything just like in the video but I can only power three lamps with an output i have enough energy for it but the last lamps just wont turn on
cost of all the mats to make the full first floor would be nice just to be ready to build it faster :) like all the stone, metal frag, wood and components
I guess you could run calculation on a build server, but I build it in steps anyways and just keep farming.
I built a similar farm this wipe and a horse farm with 12 horses! Sadly I noticed that the horse dung was nerfed and you can't make explosives out of fertilizer anymore. Also I realized that the hemp at bandit was nerfed too. Such a painful update...
Yeah.. at least pumps got buffed
@@tamura77Rust I also built a 4x4 berry farm (blue, red, yellow, white) but it was really hardcore crossbreeding them 😂
Btw You can't take cutting untill they reach fruiting stage which is hardcore time consuming..
@@mrlevi5107 funny you mention that, I am editing that video now.. and I am aware unfortunately..
@@mrlevi5107 Yeah they need to change it so you can clone at around 20 min. Crazy how long it can take to just get a decent one.
i was so freaking hyper hyped to make a fertilizer farm for explosives and they removed it at the last second before update.. (FUCK) It would have been game changing and so fuckign cool and then i was like hemm well at less they are hading scrap tea so i can get 200% for my hemp exchange at bandit AND OFC IT DOESNT WORK FOR EXCHANGE cmon facepunch dont freaking hype us like that, i was so hype i had trouble SLEEPING ! XD got bamboozle hard
very nice work
ive got 4 pumps, 2 fluid combiners, 1 wwater purifier, and that water purifier is going to the 6 sprinklers. only the first 6 planters are getting water?
nvm just had to unwire the first sprinkler and rewire it idk why it wasnt working
Raiding farm bases is pogs
ik this is old and might be outdated, but do u know how long it takes after I first set up the sprinklers to fill the planter boxes?
A little over 3 hours, I would recommend manually watering to speed it up for the first time
@@tamura77Rust okay thank you so much
This is a great video mate. Earned a sub from me
Can you place 4 water pumps in 1 grid if you already placed a foundation around all sides of the water?
Yes, although it is tricky. So practice first.
thanks for these tips ricky gervais
how on earth are your pumps getting powered and why have i not figured it out after watching this 5 times
I branch out power to them via the E-Branch?
if u make 2 stories with 18 planters each, u get 72k cloth in 6h if u have GGGGYY(4 harvests) but if u have GGGYYY u get cca 60k cloth in 6hours(3 harvests) , so for tryharders go 4Gs every time
I just go with the 6y plant because you have to clone less often and you can leave it overnight and still be able to harvest in the morning
great vid
any reason why the plants would be receiving no water when 2 sprinklers directly above are supplying water constantly?!? Manually watering the plants works
your sprinkler setup is likely flawed, come to discord for more help
Hey, it's a great video. I try to copy your setup excactly, but still some of the planters doesnt get enough water. I tried compensating with extra water, but that seemed to have the opposite effect. Now I need to manually water the planters between each harvest, which is a pain in the ass. Any tips to get the watering automated again?
You most likely are using salt water.
@@SneekyFauker You now need 4 sprinklers to keep the water consumption up instead of 2
Great video and thanks for S/O :)
Or just berry farm
great video thank you! Also thank you for speeding up construction process!
does the salty water works for the hemp?
no, use a purifier to convert it
@@tamura77Rust ok, thanks for replying
@@snoweh1 This is some mad max shit gg
How do I make the water pocket so I have a hole in the floor? I am building on the coast in salt water if that makes a difference
build foundations then build triangle (connected) foundations and then demolish the first ones.
@@tamura77Rust My problem is where I want to put the water pumps, if I put foundation under water so I can build the outside wall I am unable to place the pumps in the water but if I build the outside walls and then destroy the foundation it also destroys the walls. Only way I was able to enclose the pump room was to build a full foundation one square outside the pump and then put walls on the inside of those foundations. Maybe this is because I’m building on salt water? I’m new so there may be something I’m missing and a way to get around this with a different building technique. Also awesome videos, extremely helpful while getting my berry farm set up.
I really appreciate your videos and because of you Ive started farming more. I understand the concept of crossbreeding how it should be, but I always get stuck how to do it. Like for example, I have a G-Y-G-Y-H-G and I really want to change that H to a G , how am I going to do that? I’d really appreciate your time if u could help me , even by discord / steam or whatsoever. Love to u!
Join discord and post questions there. You need to use the 50/50 method to swap that last H gene, which I talk about in my guide.
What's that music? Is it the music from cabal online?
Hey , I face some problem when i'm using sprinker for large planter box.
some box doesn't get water from springer but nearly get water. i don't know what happend.
can you suggest me ?
sorry for my language .

You should always use fert. God corn is 9 corn per stock, 20 corn is 6 fert, so it’s endless
but the opportunity cost of corn is hemp, which is more scrap than you would gain using the fert. I have done the maths.. trust me.
Does anyone know why sometimes planters won’t accept water
nice video my friend :)
Is this more efficient than the trout/scrap farm? Which is easier to set-up?
Harder to setup, easier to maintain.
I usually want to build one of these but I don't have the components for that, such as water pumps, sprinklers, root combiners... Where do you all find that the most easily? Or do you ofter buy it from other people? its a general question though so everyone is welcome to answer
Check the map it on display
Outpost :)
@@alfonsogarcia2530 Yeah but I mean you can't buy all of this, such as root combiners
Outpost has workbenches level 1 you can use to research

If cross breeding wasn't complicated I might do this
Has your DC stopped working, where can I ask questions about farming?
should be fine, just verify
For the part about using an XXL Picture Frame, are you saying to spend 500 cloth to make the picture frame then recycle it down to 100 cloth? I'm going by the recycle numbers here: rustlabs.com/item/xxl-picture-frame#tab=recycle
No you don't actually craft it, you stack it in your crafting que (keep canceling it), which creates more space essentially.
@@tamura77Rust Awesome, thanks! :)
Do you have a discussion somewhere on upcoming hemp/vendor changes?
In my discord
gggyyy is a new meta for hemp, but what is the best genetics for pumpkins?
probably similar or the same.. but they take too long to cross breed.
Holy shit, what were the rust devs thinking, making this so extremely complicated.
Now it feels like I have to dedicate my wipe to building a farm and maintain it, or, actually play the game.
this farm is optional :)
Since they beefed up the electric heater have you tried the electric heater in the snow?
I will release an update later!
@@tamura77Rust my guy. Your on top of that shit son. Love it. Thank you.
@@tamura77Rust btw. I subbed. Loving your work son.
What about timers for this setup (1 floor) ? Do we still need to restrain water to reach perfect water level, with timers ? More accurately, how do you reach the 100% water condition on this setup ? (implying oc I've got unlimited fertilizers)
same timer setup as always, with 45:48 if you want.
Is it even worth doing on a weekly server?
i like the mapping for the electricity but the way u do ur root combiners hurt me mentally. overall great design and will be building it on thursday
It doesn't make a difference, I was just showing how you can add one solar panel at a time if needed.
What kind od cloth/scrap per harvest/hour can i expect with this farm, Great vid
740 scrap per hour per floor
@@tamura77Rust thanks For the quick response
He said it like 5 times in the video and took a lot of time to.make a graph for us to look at
Love the video bro! On a BP wipe I struggle to get the root combiner though :( not sure how I can do this very early game
I usually trade for it if I can. Otherwise you can have multiple batteries if needed.
Tamura77 could just have a list in the intro of what u need for one floor
I mean you can just count as you watch. The important part is the setup not the items.
Does it matter if its genotype is GGGYYY or GYGYGY or anything else or it just has to be 3xG 3xY
Doesn't matter the order.
i'm struggling with my water level. it goes up really slowly but i did everything exactly like u. Where could be the problem?
sprinklers ONLY maintain water level. Either let it go to full water BEFORE planting or fill it manually then the sprinklers should be able to hold the water level.
Hey is it possible for you to one with salt water?
yes.. use the water purifier though
Do you ever convert your farm base into your main base or do you always keep them separate?
separate, but you can attach them together.
I use tanker vehicle store 200000 water which also outputs 500 water
How do you fill and empty the tanker vehicle?
Tamura: For some resean when ever i put windows it makes them want to raid it more then if no windows.
its different for each server, so its optional for sure :)
I slap signs around my closed off base instead that says farm on them lol
In your video you mentioned we should place the sprinklers like this:
oo
oo
oo
but you actually placed them like this:
o
o
oo
o
o
Does it matter? If so, which one should we follow?
Thanks!
It doesn't matter.
@@tamura77Rust Thanks!
I built a hemp base in the swamp biome and the hemp have different temperatures, even when they're in the same planter. Is this something you've encountered before or is it some random glitch?
The swamp is a weird place.. I am not surprised that this is the case. FP have released no information about temperature too.
Decided to try this for the new month wipe... but on my server I can only turn in about 280 scrap worth of cloth and then the vendor won't sell anymore and it takes a while to reset. Is this new to all servers or just the one I'm on?
just your server.. weird
@@tamura77Rust Guess my server had the idea first. The reset on our server was 15 mins, which made hemp farming a minor bonus at best.
How are you not going to raid a farm?
If it is full of gold, in cloth.
I always move cloth to my main base and never grow when I am offline.
