CSX Coal Train with Rare 40-Year-Old EMD SD40-2 Leading!

- The EMD SD40-2 is by far one of the most, if not THE most successful locomotives ever built. Built 1972 and 1989 by Electro-Motive Division (EMD), the SD40-2s are still going strong today. You can find these locomotives pretty much everywhere. Although on class one railroads, these engines typically stay in yard and local service. It's uncommon to see one leading a road freight, and rare to see them leading coal trains. In this case, the lead GE ET44AH had broken down and needed a new lead locomotive. Still in the yard it was originating from, they pulled CSX 8014 from the yard power to lead the train. So, while these locomotives are not rare to see by any means, this scenario does not happen often.

A beautiful train video. Thanks for sharing 👍
Greetings Joe 😊
Nice video. LIKE!
I think that the 40-2 is the best cargo train design! Good video by the way 🤗🤗

Does CSX 8014 Still active with CSX? Please reply. Anyways fantastic video!
CSX 8014 usually works as a yard job in yards all across the system. Rarely leads locals, but it happens. Normally when it runs on the main, it’s trailing and DIT (dead in tow/off).
@@railfan6116 thank you
Love the 40-2’s. So iconic
i see this all the time on the grand rapids sub
