This brings me back. Its one of the first games i EVER played in my life. I was around 6 or 7. Didnt have a computer or a console yet. And we had this cleaning lady that came daily. And sometimes her son came to baby sit. EVERYTIME he came with his playstation one and this game and even left it at my place for a couple of days because he knew i loved it so much. My brother in law was one of the best CTR players I ever witnessed. He has over 5000hrs played in the old and new CTRs. Then we found out he was autistic and it all made sense.

Autistic people infact can be smarter and more talented than neurotypical (regular) people from many aspects, thanks to certain traits they have (and others they MAY have) that can be better than the norm, such as the ability to excel at their narrow intrests, which aren't always pointless crap such as playing video games and can be productive. This is known as "savant skills". There are autistic whose narrow intrests include instead science, mathematics (in particular), other engineering fields, programming actual usefull software (not game programming), game programming, etc. And there are many "high functioning" autistic people who work at those fields (including some other CTR speedrunners) even thought they don't display any intrest in them in their personal lives. This is also why I'd like to encourage all speedrunners to quit making humanly possible speedruns on the console platforms and only do TAS on emulator instead lol. TAS is more about strategy rather than luck or skill, which contribues more to your brain's developement, you can do in TAS in 20 minutes what a human can't do in 1000 hours, and there's encouragement to write lua scripts or modify the game you're TASing (also known as "ROM hacking"), which encourages earning programming experience and you also can produce equally impressive videos way faster, which helps a lot of you wanna be among the few speedrunners who make money from their particulary popular speedrunning videos and Twitch streams. Great to see the sheer amount of people playing OnlineCTR, I'm hoping this activity in the community stays for a while especially when CTR PC opens up for the first time, which will be historic for the Crash community as the FIRST TIME a Crash kart racer is playable on PC. Remember, the last huge CTR-related update or development that happened before all this was in March 2020 with Nitro-Fueled's Post-Grand Prix update (Dev Times, the wall patch, Iron Checkpoint Crate, etc), so this truly is a momentous and relatively thriving (to the past few years) time for the community of CTR, and Crash as a whole. Pumped for future developments by Darkraiser's team, I hope their amazing and unslowed dedicated progress continues!
N. Oxide is actually balanced, not turn. As you can tell from Oxide having the same engine sound as Crash, Cortex, Komodo Joe and Fake Crash, he shares the same stats with all four.
Not to be that guy but I was pulling off around 80% of these shortcuts and consistant drift chain lines as a 10 year old in 2004 casually. I've seen some crazy shit in these races tho

@@logiclunacy606 I think the majority of shortcuts in CTR99 are actually making the game more interesting and fun. In fact, I think that the extraordinary Naughty Dogs actually wanted to create some of the "unintended shortcuts". Anyway, in the future of this CTROnline hopefully there will be both Classic Mode and Skipless Mode to make everyone happy :)
I just curious how ps1 game haw online feature on it up to 8 player. Also i though Crash NF online still playable in 2024 ?? I don't play crash game again after xbox buy Activision so i don't know.

It was to keep differentiating players on the screen easier, especially with splitscreen. OnlineCTR is completely non-splitscreen and we have usernames that could easily differentiate players. In the 2019 remake (Nitro-Fueled), they also have character skins too.
@@faradise3819 I don't care if there are names or alternate skins to differentiate the players. Splitscreen still differentiates the players with the fixed camera angles behind the kart. Even if you would be able to play as the same character as your friend in splitscreen, there wouldn't be any confusion even if the other player bump into you. The inability to play as the same character in splitscreen is actually good because there should be only one Crash, on Coco, one Cortex, etc. The characters are individuals, so they are one of a kind. How can there be two Dingodiles? You need some crazy sci-fi shenanigans to explain how they could race against themselves. And that is why in my racing game, Speed Prix, each character on the roster could be used by one player per online race. As much as some horny boys want to play a match with eight Melissa Cruz's, that won't be possible, because the matchmaking would always put them in matches with players using different characters.

As for your argument about why there can't be no duplicate characters, I think your priority is just wrong. I would understand if the genre is meant to be a Role Playing Game. But for racing, kart racing, that decision is just limiting multiplayer options which is not great for the long run. You're also assuming your audience reach too small by focusing on "Horny boys", like what if a group of female players just find Mellisa Cruz relatable and all of them want to play as her? "Characters are individuals", okay then so does each character have their own driving style? Power-ups? Specific roles, like in a board game? If yes, then I could imagine, people would keep choosing a specific character likely all the time, for any reason. You're risking alienating the other characters to not be played. Another thing to keep in mind is that, you still don't have to sacrifice your vision, CTR is already a good example with its single player adventure mode. You can still put in the rules you want in your single player mode, without alienating people who want more options for multiplayer. If you're really stubborn about your vision of "making sense in-universe", then why bother with multiplayer? I can also imagine would have a hard time matchmaking with that many rules in it.

And after he loses the tournament, he decides to blow up the Earth and conquer Mars instead, but all the racers in the game thwart his plan with a 15-on-1 relay. Oh, and he was disqualified from the final Trophy Race and barred from competing in the post-game challenges (the boss of each world takes his spot) because he cheated by filling his kart with tachyons to make his kart go at lightspeed, causing him to lap everyone several times in just the second the race started. I don't think anyone would want to relate to Heinrich. But it won't stop people from playing as him. Speed Prix has several rules in its rulebook. And if someone shows up twice in a race, the identical racers would be suspected of breaking a rule, like the use of clones, robots, identical twins, stunt doubles, masters of disguise, magic, time-travel, multiversal doppelgangers, shapeshifters, frauds, imposters, etc. The race can't start with an investigation. And Rip McCartwheel commentates throughout the race. Imagine how confused he would be if he has to say when Max passes another Max or Cheryl hitting another Cheryl with a power-up. But he won't have to say those things, because he would cancel the race as soon as he sees two of the same person on the starting line. And rather than have the matchmaking pair people blindly into an illegal race that confuses everyone in-universe, I'm going to program it to put players in groups that don't already have their chosen characters. If you pick the main protagonist, Max Speed, you'll be the only Max in the group. If you pick Megan Mercury, then you're the only four-armed green Martian racing. Anyone who picks the same character as you online are blocked from entering your group until you change characters or leave. And when you change characters, you can't change to someone another player in your group still has selected. "Characters as individuals" has nothing to do with their driving styles, power-ups or specific roles. I meant that they are not a species with expendable clones. I mean they are different people. In terms of driving styles, there are four types: Rounders, Speeders, Accelerators and Turners, which have similar stats to the four engine classes of CTR. Some have in-story justification for their classes, like the muscle-bound Killian Hogan is a Speeder because he wanted his kart fast enough to crush the competition and had made his steering wheel stiff to test his strength. And Jason Snow is also a speeder because the snow and ice from his homeland of Arctica made his kart slippery, which made it faster but very difficult to steer. Melissa got a Turner kart so that she could be slow enough for her fans' eyes to track her and turn easily enough for her fans to catch her at every possible angle. Ironically, the man named Max Speed is a Rounder instead of a Speeder. As for power-ups, you'd always get a random power-up card from holographic boxes. And whoever you play as doesn't effect the selection. It's just human players get more kinds of power-ups than the CPUs. In the story mode, right when Heinrich Franklin got disqualified, the other racers accuse the protagonist Max Speed of cheating with the advanced power-ups, so for the final Trophy Race, Max's six CPU opponents get to use the power-ups that are normally exclusive to human players while Max is limited to the more common power-ups. As for roles, yes the characters get roles in the story.

You're clearly put so much effort into the worldbuilding here, but almost none of what I read here are gameplay related. Seems like it fits more as details for a novel, or at most maybe an interactive narrative game. It sounds similar to the movie "Death Race" just with more rules.... Remember that video games still needs to have interactivity and not just narrative or details. A lot of people would focus on just playing and won't be bothered. So while I'm not trying to limit your vision, I think it's gonna be a lot of wasted efforts. If you still meant for this project to be a video game, you should prioritize the gaming aspects first, before the worldbuilding. Stick to the gameplay design first, what do you want the rules of the race to be? How do you justify those rules in terms of gameplay and how it would actually be fun for any player to play it? After that you can start add in-universe explanations to those rules. Worldbuilding should just be bonus facts, not mandatory to learn on how to play your game. Remember, you should want other people to play your game. Keep an open perspective on how other people would perceive and play your game.
Are the power ups not working or everyone agreed not to use them? Because power ups themselves can be strategy, like intentionally slow down and let other pass to gain better power up. Although, some power up need adjustment, like the clock would need to be removed or reworked, as it slows and silence everyone on the map.

I usually play the newer CTR and I can sometimes get a blue flame depending on the level but I can only keep it for about a lap or under. Tell me, why are you almost constantly hopping? What does that do and how does that help? 😊
Froggy (constantly hopping) is a technique to retain the high speed you get from boosts or etc. Very useful on off road short cuts that will keep slowing you down when you touch ground.

Online just came out recently, thus far players can't collide with each other and can't see other player's items. It's also running on an emulator, when it comes to PC it'll all be working fine. Not sure if on PS1 version they'll make items sync as well.

And last, speedrunning is realtivily pretty socially isolating, as you usually play alone when you speedrun. Your interactions as a speedrunner will likely consist mostly of talking to strangers in the internet with players all over the world, which is a bit isolating compared to hobbies that are face to face and require frontal interactions constantly (like playing board games). If this is somehow related to autism, (and it probably is), this is because autism is also often characterized by sensitivity to any kind of stimulation, due to different sensory regulation. Autisitc person who will force himself to spend his free time in frontal social interactions will likely usually experience in those situations sensory overload and awfull meltdowns that can cause them to develop mental illneses, meaning it will fail and won't do him any good, so any speedrunner who is also autisitic essentially adopts a hobby that actually fits quite well to his health needs.
Do some googling about speedrunning "being autistic" and you'll see what I mean, I'm really not the first person who noticed this.
This is btw not just in speedrunning, autisitc people are also known to excel in video games in general, not just speedrunning, since every other form of being good at a game involves playing it repeately endless amount of times either way.

Autism is largely (thought not entirely) characterized by highly repetitive behvaiours in any field, so among any autistic that has video games in his list of his personal narrow intrests, he could easily enjoy speedrunning more than anything else since it involves repeatly playing the same game hundereds or thousands of times (or in the Ctr4ever website case, playing each track in time trial mode thousands of times). Very very repetitive hobby. Video games are conisdered a pretty repetitive hobby in general, but speedrunning definitely makes it particulary so.

Great to see the sheer amount of people playing OnlineCTR, I'm hoping this activity in the community stays for a while especially when CTR PC opens up for the first time, which will be historic for the Crash community as the FIRST TIME a Crash kart racer is playable on PC. Remember, the last huge CTR-related update or development that happened before all this was in March 2020 with Nitro-Fueled's Post-Grand Prix update (Dev Times, the wall patch, Iron Checkpoint Crate, etc), so this truly is a momentous and relatively thriving (to the past few years) time for the community of CTR, and Crash as a whole. Pumped for future developments by Darkraiser's team, I hope their amazing and unslowed dedicated progress continues!

N. Oxide is actually balanced, not turn. As you can tell from Oxide having the same engine sound as Crash, Cortex, Komodo Joe and Fake Crash, he shares the same stats with all four.

Bombs in online are meant for hitting the door in Tiger Temple other players can't see thrown bombs nor are they affected if they're hit

In fact, I think that the extraordinary Naughty Dogs actually wanted to create some of the "unintended shortcuts". If we can't play as duplicate characters in local multiplayer, why should online allow duplicate players?
It was to keep differentiating players on the screen easier, especially with splitscreen.
OnlineCTR is completely non-splitscreen and we have usernames that could easily differentiate players. In the 2019 remake (Nitro-Fueled), they also have character skins too.
@@faradise3819 I don't care if there are names or alternate skins to differentiate the players. Splitscreen still differentiates the players with the fixed camera angles behind the kart. Even if you would be able to play as the same character as your friend in splitscreen, there wouldn't be any confusion even if the other player bump into you.
The inability to play as the same character in splitscreen is actually good because there should be only one Crash, on Coco, one Cortex, etc. The characters are individuals, so they are one of a kind. How can there be two Dingodiles? You need some crazy sci-fi shenanigans to explain how they could race against themselves.
And that is why in my racing game, Speed Prix, each character on the roster could be used by one player per online race. As much as some horny boys want to play a match with eight Melissa Cruz's, that won't be possible, because the matchmaking would always put them in matches with players using different characters.

As for your argument about why there can't be no duplicate characters, I think your priority is just wrong. I would understand if the genre is meant to be a Role Playing Game. But for racing, kart racing, that decision is just limiting multiplayer options which is not great for the long run. You're also assuming your audience reach too small by focusing on "Horny boys", like what if a group of female players just find Mellisa Cruz relatable and all of them want to play as her?
"Characters are individuals", okay then so does each character have their own driving style? Power-ups? Specific roles, like in a board game? If yes, then I could imagine, people would keep choosing a specific character likely all the time, for any reason. You're risking alienating the other characters to not be played.
Another thing to keep in mind is that, you still don't have to sacrifice your vision, CTR is already a good example with its single player adventure mode. You can still put in the rules you want in your single player mode, without alienating people who want more options for multiplayer.
If you're really stubborn about your vision of "making sense in-universe", then why bother with multiplayer? I can also imagine would have a hard time matchmaking with that many rules in it.

She is a bikini-clad erotic model who would fuck anything and everything except transgender people (she considers them frauds) and muscular men (they remind her of an abusive exboyfriend). I guess her transphobia could give her some TERFs too.
But I don't want to make stereotypes out of players by their mains. Could you imagine the stereotypes for the Heinrich Franklin players? That guy is a German neo-Nazi who wanted to win the Speed Prix racing tournament to use the prize money to become Der Fuhrer of the Fourth Reich, because he blames Germany losing the war on Hitler's hair being too dark. And after he loses the tournament, he decides to blow up the Earth and conquer Mars instead, but all the racers in the game thwart his plan with a 15-on-1 relay. Oh, and he was disqualified from the final Trophy Race and barred from competing in the post-game challenges (the boss of each world takes his spot) because he cheated by filling his kart with tachyons to make his kart go at lightspeed, causing him to lap everyone several times in just the second the race started. I don't think anyone would want to relate to Heinrich. But it won't stop people from playing as him.
Speed Prix has several rules in its rulebook. And if someone shows up twice in a race, the identical racers would be suspected of breaking a rule, like the use of clones, robots, identical twins, stunt doubles, masters of disguise, magic, time-travel, multiversal doppelgangers, shapeshifters, frauds, imposters, etc. The race can't start with an investigation. And Rip McCartwheel commentates throughout the race. Imagine how confused he would be if he has to say when Max passes another Max or Cheryl hitting another Cheryl with a power-up. But he won't have to say those things, because he would cancel the race as soon as he sees two of the same person on the starting line.
And rather than have the matchmaking pair people blindly into an illegal race that confuses everyone in-universe, I'm going to program it to put players in groups that don't already have their chosen characters. If you pick the main protagonist, Max Speed, you'll be the only Max in the group. If you pick Megan Mercury, then you're the only four-armed green Martian racing. Anyone who picks the same character as you online are blocked from entering your group until you change characters or leave. And when you change characters, you can't change to someone another player in your group still has selected.
"Characters as individuals" has nothing to do with their driving styles, power-ups or specific roles. I meant that they are not a species with expendable clones. I mean they are different people. In terms of driving styles, there are four types: Rounders, Speeders, Accelerators and Turners, which have similar stats to the four engine classes of CTR. Some have in-story justification for their classes, like the muscle-bound Killian Hogan is a Speeder because he wanted his kart fast enough to crush the competition and had made his steering wheel stiff to test his strength. And Jason Snow is also a speeder because the snow and ice from his homeland of Arctica made his kart slippery, which made it faster but very difficult to steer. Melissa got a Turner kart so that she could be slow enough for her fans' eyes to track her and turn easily enough for her fans to catch her at every possible angle. Ironically, the man named Max Speed is a Rounder instead of a Speeder.
As for power-ups, you'd always get a random power-up card from holographic boxes. And whoever you play as doesn't effect the selection. It's just human players get more kinds of power-ups than the CPUs. In the story mode, right when Heinrich Franklin got disqualified, the other racers accuse the protagonist Max Speed of cheating with the advanced power-ups, so for the final Trophy Race, Max's six CPU opponents get to use the power-ups that are normally exclusive to human players while Max is limited to the more common power-ups.
As for roles, yes the characters get roles in the story.

You're clearly put so much effort into the worldbuilding here, but almost none of what I read here are gameplay related. Seems like it fits more as details for a novel, or at most maybe an interactive narrative game. It sounds similar to the movie "Death Race" just with more rules....
Remember that video games still needs to have interactivity and not just narrative or details. A lot of people would focus on just playing and won't be bothered. So while I'm not trying to limit your vision, I think it's gonna be a lot of wasted efforts. If you still meant for this project to be a video game, you should prioritize the gaming aspects first, before the worldbuilding.
Stick to the gameplay design first, what do you want the rules of the race to be? How do you justify those rules in terms of gameplay and how it would actually be fun for any player to play it?
After that you can start add in-universe explanations to those rules. Worldbuilding should just be bonus facts, not mandatory to learn on how to play your game. Remember, you should want other people to play your game. Keep an open perspective on how other people would perceive and play your game.

Because power ups themselves can be strategy, like intentionally slow down and let other pass to gain better power up.
Although, some power up need adjustment, like the clock would need to be removed or reworked, as it slows and silence everyone on the map.

Froggy (constantly hopping) is a technique to retain the high speed you get from boosts or etc. Very useful on off road short cuts that will keep slowing you down when you touch ground.

Online just came out recently, thus far players can't collide with each other and can't see other player's items.
It's also running on an emulator, when it comes to PC it'll all be working fine.
