Such a great remake, it gets a hard time for not having Bruce Campbell involved, but that just shows how loved he is. Some people just can’t accept Evil Dead without him. There’s a new Evil Dead movie coming with Bruce and Raimi producing, let’s hope it’ll be great like this one.
It's sad that this movie didn't get love when it came out, I'd blame that on the dozens of lack luster remakes that came out before this + the lack of Bruce rubbing people the wrong way, I'd say the time for a new installment couldn't be better and people will probably be a lot more accepting this go around in the same way that people have been receptive to the new hellraiser.
Bruce and Raimi produced this 2013 remake also. Bruce has doing the promotion for this at comic con along with Jane Levy and Fede and everything. He was really backing Mia as a character and Jane's performance. Sad how they got a lot of unwarranted hate when the movie was so damn good, just because people wanted Ash.
It should be noted that this isn't a remake, it was supposed to be followed up by an Army of Darkness 2 with Bruce Campbell coming back and joining forces with Mia. The director and Jane Levy had an issue with each other apparently but it seems to have been cleared up so I'm hoping one day it still gets made.
@@whichDude That was way after, iirc Ash Vs Evil Dead kind of replaced Army of Darkness 2 and when that was cancelled he said he was retiring the character. And there has been rumors that he is at least getting a cameo in the new film.
One of the greatest horror movies ever made. Not many jump scares, but actual chill factor. Excellent directing, perfectly paced. This, and Bram Stoker's Dracula are my absolute favorite horror movies.
I’m so glad you watched this! A lot of people haven’t and they just don’t know what they’re missing. I was I. Theaters for this and can tell you it’s the only movie I’ve had to hide my eyes during some scenes. And the sound in the theater was terrifying on its own. I also didn’t sleep right for a long time after watching it. Jane Levy’s possessed demon face haunted every dark corner, the demon thing at the end lurked around every turn just waiting to crawl out and grab my legs. Uuurrghh. I have a really morbid fascination with this movie. Wish more people saw it.
same and I love horror the creepier and cringy the better but when she cuts her tongue with the box cutter or when the guy with the long hair pulls the needle out his face
Originally, they wanted a sequel to this, then Army of Darkness 2, then both Mia AND Ash together. But things changed and we got Ash Vs Evil Dead for 3 seasons, which was still a blast. We might get an animated sequel to the show too.
This is definitely my favorite Evil dead. I love Jane Levy - new favorite final girl. " Feast on this MF ;) " Reminiscent of Ash's " swallow this " but back to you Brandon ... where you been 10 months? I ask fondly- I miss your movie reactions : ) more please
Same director of this is directing the new Aliens movie with Ridley Scott Producing. Allegedly, He pitched it to Ridley awhile ago, and it resonated with Scott. A few years later, R. Scott called him and asked if he's interested in doing his idea. I wonder if it'll come out the same year as (Fargo series) Noah Hawley's Aliens FX/Hulu show will come out the same year.
I thought this was a great remake/reboot of the original, and I really hope we see Mia again somewhere down the line in the franchise. This movie is terrifying and utterly horrifying in a way that the rest are not, though I do believe that Evil Dead 2 is a better movie overall. This is pure horror as opposed to horror-comedy. Great reaction, Brandon!
I love that this movie takes the same idea and takes it in a very different direction. Mia is a fantastic protagonist, the nurse girl absolutely SUCKS, and the guy who causes it is... actually pretty rad! The effects and cinematography are AMAZING.
I have no idea why I thought you’d done this already but that’s awesome! I loveee this movie. I wouldn’t say it’s the best of the 4 movies but it’s at least better then the first imo It’s crazy to think that next year 10 years after this film is when we’ll finally be getting a new Evil Dead Film. Edit: Have you done the show yet? Definitely get to that one done soon it’s so fantastic
I like the entire movie except for the ending when he buries Mia and then she comes back resurrected it kind of bugged me because not only was she resurrected but all of her burn marks from the shower and her tongue being split in half are just completely gone it’s also weird because live burial didn’t work in the first place and I just thought the entire ending was silly and confusing it’s like Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell gave their input in certain moments in the movie and then the Director just completely fucked it up at the end on purpose
Jane Levy's go-for-broke acting in this movie is yet another example of "awards-worthy performances in horror films" - I just wish the big award shows would get over their anti-horror bias already. Great reaction as always! :)
Levy's complete lack of props would be followed by Toni Colette getting snubbed for Hereditary, clinching that the ego(t)s just shouldn't be taken seriously as they want us to if they keep pulling this malarky
In a very strange way Mia ended up having like all the horror movie cliche roles in this one movie! The Junkie, the villain, the victim and final girl!
omg I never noticed that for some reason she is also the one who is not just ignoring the creepy stuff like she knows this isn't because shes is off the drugs
10:14 Her acting here is superb. I've never seen such a genuine display of fear in a movie before. And this was VERY well done remake that greatly rivals the original, possible even surpasses it.
One of the best remakes ever in my opinion. Regardless of genre, this film was sensational. I'm forever bummed Mia's story ended here. I think she could have easily carried her own trilogy
LOL 😆 👍 This was such an outstanding reaction video for spooky season. ❤ 😱 🎥 Brandon gleefully laughing at truly horrific scenes in this film made it an absolute joy 🏆 😂
By the way, it would be dope to react to "Don't Breathe" also starring Jane Levy and directed by the same director of this movie. It's definitely worth a reaction
Your reaction to her seeing her reflection in the mirror was perfect, that scene will haunt me forever.. I remember thinking to myself as it played out “well that’s going to give me a nightmare or two”…
I finally got the cojones to watch this one recently--- after avoiding it for a decade because of its reputation for being so brutal and gory. Glad I saw it, because my curiosity would have itched forever. Yes, it's a supremely brutal film to endure for its relentless mayhem and wince-inducing savagery. I just wish it had a tad more humor because comedy relief is a necessity in something like this. Gore for the sake of it doesn't please me at all, so I can't say I fell in love with this movie. Have to admit that I loved the little homages and nods to the original franchise: hearing the demonic, deep voice saying "Join us" over an establishing shot of the cabin exterior (it was rather subtle but effective); seeing Ash's decrepit old car, The Delta, sitting by the cabin; a light bulb filing with blood in the end credits, and so on. I expected touches like this, being a fan of the films and the show, and it was nice to have them. Thanks for sharing your shock and your grimacing, squirming, and recoiling, LOL! It was fun to watch.
Jane Levy's performance is what makes this remake just a little bit more interesting than the original. The scene where she says there's something in the room with her scared me for life.
Really good remake. Had me super uncomfortable and cringing while in the theater. I’d highly recommend Don’t Breathe next which is from the same director!
Jane Levy was actually buried alive for the scene where shes dug up.. they wanted shilo fernandez (david) to actually feel the stress of having to get her out before the air ran out...shes a badass
I always wished the first scene wasn’t included. I mean, I know why they did it but I feel like it would have added more supsense if the viewers were in as little knowing as the characters about both the possessions and the manipulation.
Brandon I’d love for you to react to Ash vs Evil Dead to complete the franchise! It’s a phenomenal show and has a similar vibe to something like Peacemaker. I reckon you’d dig it
31:05 That was the plan initially but Bruce thought it would have been too cheap of a cameo for Ash to do. However Fede Alvarez (director/writer) always wanted to connect Ash and Mia in future sequels of this Evil Dead which never materialized sadly, cause i would have loved to see those.

While part of me should feel bad for Eric, its kind of hard to do so since he's the reason why all of them but Mia ended up getting killed. Dude was too bitter and resentful in my eyes. Doesn't help that he also tried to be so sarcastic about everything.
I don't really get you man. Sure he caused it, but he was a true bro. He got so hurt but kept on going, saving David's life a few times, and being the only reason David was able to save Mia
He read a book. That's his "sin." Just because reading the book caused everything, it doesn't mean he had any reason to believe it would turn his friends into psycho zombies. He obviously wouldn't have done it if he knew. Blame those hill people from the beginning, they shouldn't have giftwrapped the bloody thing, they should have burned it, buried it, dissolved it in acid.
