Sasuke was popular and every one loved him, naruto was rly jealous at him and hated him until they have been putted in the same team.
From that time they became rivals.

Those who say Naruto is so obsesed with Sasuke because he was his first friend should see the anime again. Naruto feels that Sasuke is like him and because of that try too hard to be his friend but at the end its obvious Naruto's feelings about Sasuke grow stronger and become love altough he say hes only a "good friend"
