Hello, love your channel so much already and i'm a new subscriber. Something about this is clicking with me especially the setup in your video Growing Hydroponic Lettuce with the fence post, did you cover the posts with some thermal? i'm in the PNW so spring is here already, should I learn this season and build the setup, along with my knowledge later for the next growing season? we don't get much summer. I'm used to my perennial plants/herbs that just do what they like and come up on their own with no fuss but I am really wanting to grow lettuce, like butter lettuce and other greens. Yeah, that's probably why it's clicking with me because your setup also feels like it's really low fuss but productive.

Thank you!💜 The cover is a double reflective heat insulation, it helps to keep the nutrient cool. Yes, I would suggest to try, learn and experiment this Spring specially growing outdoors. Leafy greens like lettuce is hydroponic friendly. That's one of the beauty of growing hydroponics you can grow all year round. You can grow indoors too, however this will require a grow light for optimal growth. Please feel free to checkout @KeepOnGrowin by Mike Vanduzee you'll find more cheap and easy hydroponics ideas too. LET'S GROW!🌱🙂

Technically Kratky method, no refill or replacement of nutrients is needed if you are using large container to feed the plants specially leafy greens. However, growing with small container is possible too. One lettuce head can consume at least 1.2-1.5L for the entire growth. When to know if refill is needed, my rule of thumb is when nutrients is almost 1-2" left in the container. Important to note, during refill or replacement is to leave at least 1-2" space from the top roots to allow air roots to grow. Do not overfill as it will cause to drown the plants. I hope it helps!🌱🙂

There are several factors that can cause root rot, one is insufficient root air exposure. To prevent this, during refill ensure to leave at least 2 inches air gap from the top root to allow air roots to grow. Also, high temperature in the reservoir can lead to low level of oxygen to the plants. When growing plants outdoor on a kratky method. I usually bury the reservoir to help keep the nutrients cool. If burying is not possible, Using insulation materials like Double Reflective Foil or placing a frozen bottled water helps especially during summer months when temperatures are high. I hope this info. helps!🌱🙂
