@@wryanddry2266 I’m 63 and on the radio this song was played all the time with the original “colored girls” lyrics. Me and my friends used to always say wow they let it play thru. Some stations started censoring it at that time. Late 70’s.
@@keiko-jb1kb I wonder what recording they were playing? It appeared as B sides on a couple singles. It looks like there are a couple other extant versions. First time I heard it was on a juke box in 1975. Should be easy to check the lyrics on any published recordings. I'm not finding anything about it online, and it doesn't seem like something that would be scrubbed or that would be possible to scrub. Maybe you're thinking of Cinnamon Girl or Walk On The Wild Side. I guess Brown Eyed Girl had a change in lyrics like you describe.
@@wryanddry2266 Nope 100% Sugar Mountain positive . We used to sing it out driving in the car partying. Called a buddy but didn’t need to. He finished the line as I recited up to that point. It’s been scrubbed which is amazing. No albums, no Wikipedia nothing. Neil has some power in the industry I guess.
@@keiko-jb1kb setlist_fm indicates he played it 45 times in concert before 1979 (I saw two of those). Maybe the radio station had a bootleg or maybe somebody snuck a tape out of the studio. Maybe like the way a starlet leaks a porno tape nowadays.
