This was a hard one! Hopefully you can all take a few concepts and ideas away to integrate into your own playing, even if you're not a fan of fusion!

Check Brett Stine’s work on the subject. Cheers. 🤙🏻

I think Allan basically said that hearing any non altered / non inverted / non messed with major or dominant 7th chord "caused him pain".

You know what, that rings a bell! I think that was from an interview in one of the first guitar magazines I ever bought..

@jmguitartuitionuk I think I read it requoted or paraphrased in a recent article. It could be vintage, but I definitely read it online this year. I think it's funny to pretend him saying that haunts me (hopefully keeping me from being lazy (though I just play at home as a hobby)).
Re: difficulty in learning the Tony Williams tunes. I haven't tried learning any of it myself, but I have been able to make some progress learning some of Allan's parts on Gong's Expresso (aka Gazeuse). If you haven't, you might try some of that. Also 1970s stuff, if you aren't familiar with it. And/or Bundles (Soft Machine). They both seem generally a little easier imo. Maybe Allan's doing more single note stuff? (Of course, plenty of impossible playing on both as well.)

@ElrondHubbard_1 I've actually tracked down "Igginbottoms Wrench" on UA-cam, so after a look at the likes of Charlie Christian and others he counted as influences I'm going to have a crack at that, I think 🙂👍
