I always felt that Selena’s ‘Amor Prohibido’ cover had so much SWAG to it- her outfit was so dope- and I feel like the continuous shot of her (JLo) walking into the press conference in the beginning of those scene really captured that vibe. Also, I’m happy we got a full look at the outfit head to toe! 😍 🎥 👏🏼
That desperate "If only she could just keep SINGING!!" is the second-funniest line in the movie for me. Only behind "WHO'S THAT LAUGHING? IS THAT SELENA?!" 🤣
This scene was actually filmed in San Antonio, TX at the Central public library. They put a background of the Monterrey hill top "Cerro de la silla". very interesting.
"Ay dios. Her Spanish. La prensa nos va a hacer pedazos. Nadie los dijo que no hablamos bien en español." The translation is this. "Oh God. Her Spanish. The press is gonna tear us into shreds. Nobody told us she couldn't speak Spanish well."
It still was it's just that our roots have gotten lost in time. And she found it through purely connecting within herself. Texas there are a lot of Mexicans but they speaking mainly with a Texas accent.
In the movie, Selena's father says how Mexican Americans will criticize you if you don't speak Spanish properly. But what about Spanish in Spain and Mexico. Will you be criticized in Spain for speaking Latin American Spanish, or will you be criticized in Mexico for speaking European Spanish?
You mean Castilian Spanish! I doubt such will happen. Just like how there are no criticisms between American and British English. Or even Singaporean English or Singlish!
I speak Mexican Spanish because that's the first language that I spoke as a baby Chicano. As I got older, I started speaking Spanglish. I would speak the same way no matter if I was in a small town in Mexico or a big city in Spain.
As a beginner in learning Spanish I didn't realize there were differences. As a question do the two have similar words but different meanings or is it switched, different words but similar meanings?
Selena screwed up her Spanish in interviews all the time, but people always thought it was cute, because she also laughed at herself about it. It was never a big deal.
Selena got away with it because she had tons of charisma. We Mexican-Americans know how most Mexicans will treat us with much disdain if we don't speak their language to perfection. It's always a BIG deal with them. You have NO idea. Smh.
the timeline for this scene makes no sense! its the amor prohibido album outfit but this scene took place before her and chris got married, but this album was 1994, her and chris got married in 1992
If i had it my way, i would have tried to put the outfits in chronological order, and she would have performed in Mexico with the black pants and jeweled bustier and hat. Not the white out fit she wore in 94 on.. but.. sadly the movie left out a lot of things that happened in between due to time or editing… so i guess they wanted to include that outfit in the movie, even if it technically didn’t exist yet..
Selena was Mexican American. That's kinda the point lol.She did things a little bit different, and people loved her for it.Remember when her dad told her,the press would eat her alive if her Spanish wasn't perfect? They didn't.Cause she is Selena💙
she killed them with kindness and humility- i love it!

No not In my opinion

I love how Selena tried to speak Spanish even tho it wasn’t her native language!
It still was it's just that our roots have gotten lost in time.

Where's video of the real Selena's press conference in Monterrey?
When are you going to upload the unedited version of La Carcacha?
And do you have the unedited versions of Baila Esta Cumbia and Si Una Vez?

NO, Selena's father, Abraham (a Mexican-American himself) says MEXICAN's will criticize you if you don't speak spanish correctly.

Why don’t you let me handle this “... ? La Mataron!!! Con un carajo!!😡😡😡😡
Señor Muñoz ?
