I usually mostly go Tibetan/Indian incenses all the way, but these are some cool tips, I'll try them out for sure!
Also just a personal curiosity: where are you from?

I always used the perfume advertisements that came in magazines to put in my underwear drawers, but I haven’t really seen any of those lately.
I spray my cologne on light bulbs and when the lights go on it difuses
Just a tip, since you're sharing yours, you shouldn't use the term 'ghetto' as a description.
Opening windows every morning for like 10 to 15 minutes (aka Lüften) is actually like citiziens duty here in germany😁 A really nice tip i got from my mom is to store little bags of dried lavender in between your clothes, its actually to keep moths away, but also leaves a sublte lavender smell on your clothes and in your closet😍 (plus they can look really cute, made out of patterned fabric or with embroidery)
I live in a high rise in mid-Atlantic region on the east coast of the US. I love to open my windows as you’ve suggested in the Spring and later in the Fall. Unfortunately, we have serious heat and humidity all summer and early Fall. The high rise I live in insist we NOT open windows once they turn on the air conditioning as it is very difficult to remove the humidity in the building if you open windows. My home is basically air tight for at least 4 months a year, where we need something to freshen the air because the windows are shut tight!
I literally cannot open my apartment windows without some kind of smoke, vapor, burning drug fumes .... not for 15 whole minutes!!! What kind of luxury is fresh air now?

Internal house pollution is cause for many health problems
FIRE HAZARD!!! The tip with putting essential oils on light bulbs can cause FIRES as the bulbs can get too hot and/ or the oil can get down in the contacts and cause a short! This was from several fire depts so please double check this before doing!! "Nearly all essential oils are flammable. There are a few such as wintergreen, sandalwood, and clove bud that have flashpoints above the required 199.4 degrees Fahrenheit specified by OSHA to be classified as flammable. However, they can all catch fire fairly easily. The flashpoint for essential oils can range from 100 to 215 degrees Fahrenheit (37 to 102 Celsius). The average flashpoint is around 140 degrees Fahrenheit, which classifies as a Class 3 flammable liquid by OSHA."

Yeah but that is for halogens, led light aren't hot at all.
It's kinda of outdated I don't think ppl who comes for renovations and decorating advice still have old high electricity consumption lights.

They use to sell a product that you put on the light bulb and put the oil inside. It was a kool product😊
A pro tip for getting rid of smells without covering/mixing them with other scents: Spray vodka on it (and air it out)! My sister taught me this. She is a Costume Designer and often works with garments, wigs or puppets that are pretty much impossible to wash. The alcohol gets rid of odors without harming most materials and (depending on the percentage of alcohol) may even act as a desinfectant.
One thing I learned from my mom: Dried lavender in a little linen bag works wonders in any closet or sock drawer! ;)
And in case you have a mint or sage plant in your home: Just pluck a leave every other day, even if you don't use it right away (just freeze it in an ice cube or something). The plant will release it's natural scent in response.
Also, I just wanted to add: I hate the Febreze smell, too. My other no-nos are artificial vanilla and the NIVEA scent. I don't know how well known NIVEA skincare is outside of Germany, but it's so common round here that it can be a challenge to avoid.
You'll ruin silk with any amount of alcohol spray! Every high end fashion house always instructs keeping silk away from even perfumes for this reason because they contain alcohol

Nivea in the USA doesn't have a scent. What I had in Switzerland is unscented, too. So, no idea about Nivea in Germany. They do make a body lotion for diabetics (just released in 2022) that smells like roses, but I doubt you are using that. Anyway, it's a scent that hispanic populations love and I think smells great. I am not hispanic, but when I was a teacher a lot of the parents wore a rose scent, which was lovely.
Ha! I love this! Got some good tips. BUT! Open the windows where I live (in the Deep South country) and you’ll get a nice aroma of cow manure, along with some added flies accompanied by a wonderful wave of 90% humidity and a 95 degree heat wave all 4 seasons of the year. ❤️❤️❤️ we do NOT open windows in the southern country.
I have a shallow dish on my kitchen countertop filled with white vinegar. It eliminates all the cooking odors that do no go the fan over the stove. Really good when I have cooked fish...

Europeans always air the house in the morning, before making beds, and in the evening - before sleep, even on winter evenings. European windows open towards inside, so you can often wash the outside, and they have an option to open angled, top in, so you don't have to remove anything from the window sill.

There are a very wide variety of windows in Europe. none of my homes have had "tilt and turn windows", and all have opened out or are sash windows so open up!
My 'European window' opens outward, like most. Such generalisations in this post.
@@sgist7824 - I am not talking about so called "European windows' available in North America. I was talking about modern windows in Europe. In most countries, they open inwards. Old, buildings (18th -19th century ) would be/could be different.
People here, especially women, love to jump on and criticize, just for the sake of it.
@@GraceCanadaful I live in a modern house, in Europe, and have not seen any windows opening inwards. Not in France or Italy either. Maybe you're talking about somewhere more remote and generalising it to 'All Europe' why people are replying. I don't see how gender comes into windows 😂

Thanks for sharing all your tips and suggestions! I’ve fallen in love with P. F. Candle Co., and I‘ve bought nearly everything they make. I have their candles, air spray, reed diffusers, but my favorites are their incense. My husband and I love all the scents in the cone or stick style. We mix them, and they really come together beautifully. Our favorite right now is Dune.
I'm walking around implementing these ideas. Re palo santo, I love briefly burning the sticks in my home. Great smell, lots of positive energy, and a single stick lasts months.

I take cotton and a few drops of essential oils and attach it to my ceiling fan (on the blade side facing the ceiling to hide it) when you turn on your fan you'll spread a very nice smell instantly
I've been doing the perfume and body spray as room sprays for years, but not in the bathmats. Great idea. The dryer sheet thing has been in my repertoire for a long time too.
Love this! In the winter, I use dried pine cones that I saturate with a christmas blend scent and leave them as decoration in strategic places. Wow the dryer sheet is a great tip.

I dust all furniture and wipe door levers and light switches Murphy Oil Soap in water. It makes the whole house smell clean.

Just came across your video. Loved that you added a few natural ways to make the home smell good. I have autoimmune issues & am basically allergic to +90% of things w/fragrances- essential oils, candles, any type of plugins like bath & body works or glade and even some perfumes. Even when I walk into stores that use fragrances, I immediately start coughing & choking. I’m highly allergic to Balsam of Peru which can be in anything with a fragrance like cleaning products, laundry detergent, candles, sprays, even some food including beer wine & citrus flavored things…. It’s honestly so hard trying to make my home have any appealing smells in it.
I so miss using all the fun & wonderful smelling things out there. But there are a couple of things you mentioned I can definitely try.

The scented cottonballs (or other materials like cotton/natural fabric, paper, wood..) work especially well in the closet to freshen up the clothes..

On top of some of the tips you mentioned, for my home, I have an essential oil diffuser in just about every room, and they are almost always running. I also add a couple of drops of essential oils to the vacuum filters, and to the AC filter every time I switch them out. I also add a few drops of EO’s to a cotton ball and place them at the back of drawers and cabinets.
Whether at home, or as a guest in a friend’s home, or in a hotel, I always get the vote for having the best smelling place. 😍

Ceratopogonidae is a family of flies commonly known as no-see-ums, or biting midges, generally 1-3 mm in length.
they hurt when they bite and if you are allergic they’ll leave scars. They are annoying! Lol
My great-grandmother taught me to use a pot of water simmering on the stove with mulling spices in it to sent my home. I add orange peels when I have them at the time. I've also done orange peels and rosemary simmering. If the water gets low you just add more and it works fabulously. I usually save the extra to be used another time until it wears out.
I have orange peels on countertop now. Going drop them in a pot when I get home 😁
I've recently started making candied orange peels - so easy and delicious as is or in a sweet treat or added to recipes - including savory - but thanks for this tip too!! Making the most of things just feels SOOOO good!! I've got a huge rosemary plant and love the scent so this will be a double thumbs up from me! Cheers.
This. I make my own every year. I throw some apple slices, cinnamon sticks, sometimes cloves, or whatever I have I. The house. Maybe a dash of vanilla but vanilla extract is expensive so I use it sparingly.

I love the scented pinecones, 2 bags, one behind each couch.
After I zest, juice, and/or straight up consume citrus fruit, I throw the rinds in the freezer and refrigerator for a pleasant, natural deodorizer. Once they harden, usually after 7-10 days, I'll discard them because they take on the odors from wherever I place them.
Thank you for the idea to spray my damp towel with a perfume I’m no longer wearing. I did that this morning and then this evening when I got home from work my bedroom and bath smelled wonderful.
I love all your videos. Thanks for posting your knowledge and sharing. Opening your windows is such a great suggestion. It’s interesting that when you’re outside, air smells of nothing much but if, for example, you open your bedroom window all night, then you go out of your bedroom in the morning, have your coffee, read the paper and then go back into your bedroom, it’s almost as though the room smells of a beautiful perfume just because the air is fresh. Super suggestions and I agree on all the things that do not smell great. Febreeze always reminds me of a “recently used bathroom”. Ugh. My favorite perfume is Anyway from Juliette Has a Gun and I didn’t even know they have a room spray! Thanks SO much for that info.

I can open the windows at my house but it depends on the wind direction. I have a major highway and a couple of gas stations very close by. Also remember, if you have a pet bird be very careful of what you spray in the air, they have very sensitive lungs & some things can kill them or make them sick.
Ah yes I have been using my palo santo candle sparingly cause it just smells so good 😍😁 I like the room spray vanilla patchouli from bath and body works too!!

I've lived in many countries. it is only in america that I see people dont open their windows. Everywhere else, it's the first thing you do in the morning to air out your bedroom and your bed and blankets. it's normal to open the windows in the kitchen and all other windows to let in fresh air. It is only in America that I see people need to be told to open the window.
America is as big as Europe and very air conditioned. In parts of the country where weather is mostly not extreme, people open windows. But, we do need to improve on this. I'm 72 and grew up i an older home with open windows at night and a few Window air conditioned rooms like the huge kitchen, and den. Our homes are a lot bigger in general, so opening my bedroom and kitchen windows are a must. We have a lot of windows, I have 2 large fixed glass ones to see the woods. Often they're on both sides of a fireplace in modern styles with very high ceilings. Every place is different. When I lived in cold New Hampshire, -30 F
In the Winter, many open their windows a few inches to air out the wood stove pollution for a few hrs. At times. The joys of modern living🙄

Since I’m not that wealthy I like to scent my home with DW HOME candles. Calming waves, Oakmoss&Sage and Iridescent Moonstone are my favorite scents.
The ‘essential oils on light bulbs’ trick, is a goodie … but just incase you didn’t know, its now a dangerous oldie. It can create an electrical surge which is a little dangerous… and LED bulbs which are super-dooper ‘in’ right now, do not produce enough heat. Xxx

I clean my floors with steam and have a hand held steam cleaner for other areas. This sanitizes the surface and leaves the house with no smells which is great since I have pets and fragrance is bad for them. Trust me steam cleaning is amazing for keeping your house smelling clean and fresh without fragrance.
I couldn't function without my steam cleaner! It was well worth the investment to buy one with an attachment to do furniture and appliances

nope I would prefer something with a BIT of fragrance, ur pets would be fine.
Just drop 2-3 drops of lavender essential oil and place on the bottom of the steam mops cloth. :) Much safer for pets than artificial fragrances because animals lick their paws and fur frequently and over time it can cause cancer, tumors and such.

I use a Palo Santo oil in a tiny faux plant sitting in the console of my car.
Everyone comments how my car always smells soooooo goooood...
Just make sure the bottom of the small pot has a barrier between it and the car's plastic, so the oil doesn't leak through the clay pot on the bottom.
I've also purchased a ceramic defuser from Walmart/ fill it w/ oil and it comes with a soild bottom so the oil doesn't leak 🤗
I use bar soaps in my linen cabinet. Keeps towels and sheets smelling nice. I leave their packaging intact. The soap scent is strong when they are fresh. They last a long time and then you can still use them when you rotate them out.
YESSSS I got a two pack for a trip recently and all before my flight, my closet where I put them smelled so fresh and clean!

I have dryer sheets in with my towels and sheets. I also have one or two dryer sheets in all my drawers and one in every shoe I own.
It's hard to open the windows in the summer with 115 degrees outside. LOL

Frasier Fir is the best scent I’ve ever smelled!! Pine is also! Love it and my house smells like my friends actual Montana mountain lodge. Love it. 😂 to each their own!
I make my own bathroom spray for when someone number 2s...same as your febreeze spray...but it's a tablespoon of vodka, essential oil, and water. Give it a shake before you spray and there you go!

@@kirbyd0g I have one of those amber small glass spray bottles - maybe it's a 4 oz bottle? Anyway I put in the tbsp of vodka or even rubbing alcohol, 30-40ish drops of essential oil, and then fill the rest of the bottle with water.

In my country is pretty common to use kerosene heaters in winter as chimneys are forbidden in several cities due pollution. My grandma used to put orange peels on top and the whole house smelled delicious
I buy little organza sachet bags from Amazon, fill them with in-laundry scent boosters (Downy Infusions "Calm" is my fave), and throw them in strategic places around the house (sock drawers, etc). I was trying to figure out where to put the one in the bathroom until I watched this video. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
I put dryer sheets in my cushions and sofa cushions
Tyler Candle Laundry detergent in Diva fragrance - use a capful for washing bedsheets and towels. I also use it to wash delicates and my face mask. They make several fragrances and while it is expensive, a capful goes a long way so a 16 oz. size lasts me about a year. Some people add unscented liquid detergent to the wash if you need more detergent cleaning. I also put a dryer sheet in my suitcase when traveling and everything smells wonderful including the room where my suitcase remains open! Lastly, I put potpouri in my vacuum cleaner bag which emits a nice fragrance when you vacuum.
We can't open windows in Florida most of the year.....heat and humidity 😫
I open my windows every single morning .Even in freezing temps , just ten minutes does the trick
I use scented soaps in my drawers so that my clothes smell nice.
I also dilute zoflora and pour it into a little jar with cotton wool in it, super cheap and always get compliments.
Good shout about using the radiators as diffusers, I’m away to do that now. ☺️
Is Zoflora a liquid cleaner? Is it available in Canada? Ive seen some you tubers from England speak of it
@@Mar-iy8il I just googled it and it’s a UK brand and not really available in Canada unless you get a seller on Amazon or somewhere. It’s a concentrated disinfectant that’s highly fragranced and smells amazing.

We clearly have similar fragrance preferences. NO to Febreez, cinnamon apple and pumpkin spice so I look forward to checking out some of your suggestions.
I agree, Febreeze has a signature scent, even if it has different formulas, I can detect it now when going thru the cleaning section or if someone is using it in laundry, spray, detergent, etc.

Etc. I also put a bounce dryer sheet in the back pocket of jeans

Love your videos. Less keen on the toxic scented ideas. Perfumes, body sprays, spray freshners and candles (unless beeswax) are full of toxic chemicals, with many being carcinogenic. Love the natural soap ideas and the pot simmer. 🙏

I hate Fabreeze too! My step mother smoked in the house in the winter and she would spray FEBREEZE everywhere when people came over. It smelled like and ashtray at a laundry mat in hell!

I find a cheap perfume I like and spray my silk plants in the house. Also a nice room spray disinfected and use it in the basement and the filter then put my thermostat fan on. House smells wonderful.
I do like your natural foods idea's and vanilla essence.
Things like Febreze causes allergic reactions in people who react badly to perfumes, so do incense sticks, which can irritate asthma and the same for old perfumes/dryer sheets/reed diffusers Plus opening windows in some seasons when allergens get is also is not good for asthma sufferers and those allergic to grass, tree blossom etc.
It's really difficult to make a home scented when there are allergies but one thing I found very good is ground coffee, put some into some small containers or or dishes and hide under furniture, the room begins to smell fresh within a few hours.
In Texas, we don't open our windows. We've got the AC going!

Pine drives me nuts as well, BUT...I found a really cheap brand at Wal-Mart that I totally fell in love with. IT was a mainstay one, that you can't get anymore, but you can make it. Mix pine room spray with any ocean scent spray. It is an awesome cozy scent. I figured if I sprayed both scents in a spray bottle, I could add water, just as with oils. I love that scent, as it is like men's fresh cologne. I prefer men's cologne. It is beachy. Essential oils don't have a wide enough variety, and spicy is not usually my thing. BUT, there is an oil that repels bugs, especially mosquitoes. It is Patchioli. I wore a cologne one time, at a bonfire, where the mosquitoes were huge, and biting everyone, except me. I couldn't figure it out, and then it hit me...It had to be my cologne. I researched it, and found that it contained the Patchioli. I researched that, and it stated that it repelled bugs. The Patchioli alone can repel people, so it has to be blended with something else. The cologne I wore was Estee Lauder's, Cinnabar, and I buy it every summer, even though it leans more toward a winter scent, if I'm going to be at a cookout etc., I go prepared!

In Germany we open all our window for 5-10mins twice a day... Reduces humidity and reduces risk of mold building up.
I use natural essential oils.. Lavender, lemon grass, peppermint, orange etc.. On dried herbs in a natural bag on my radiators. In summer I boiled water, put some in a bowl with essential oils on the shelf which works the same as a warm radiator.
I have body shop bars of soap I put in Natural fiber soap bags and hang them in my wardrobe.
I like to use the yankee candle wax melts in a tealight holder and just put them on the radiator. The heat makes it smell great
Cinimin and cloves are my favorite.

Leave fabric softener refill packs in your draws and wardrobes. It makes your clothes smell amazing!!. I always get compliments on how nice my 2 year old smells. 🧡👼

Also try Sand+Fog brand candle. The smells are very nice, but not over powering.
Never use dryer sheets where pets are as it is very harmful to them, and be wary of fragrances around pets. Think of their noses. They have extremely sensitive noses. Stick with basics like cutting a lemon, placing in saucer around house, vinegar and baking soda. Look up all natural to make your home fresh without perfumes. Your pets will thank you.

My cats HATE the lemon smell. I HATE the lavender smell. So, yes, beware of fragrances around pets, AND humans. I am allergic to some perfumes. Also my cats were allergic to the additives and fragrance in their new litter. Because of Covid I could not find the plain litter. I FINALLY found some just clay litter, after a big vet bill. Just Saying,---FYI.
Yes! Some don't know that there are many essential oils that are toxic for pets
Also most dogs and cats are allergic to tea tree oil so be wary.
@@debracole3699 if they hate the smell, then don’t use it. Essential oils & dryer sheets are very harmful to your pets, always keep those away. If you go to a tractor supply store, pick up some horse pellet bedding, there is equine brand that bakes out the pine several times, it’s like 20 to 40 lbs for only 5 to 6 bucks, just saying fyi. With this, 1 bag lasts months! I buy 3 a year!
