I was in the 7th grade, so my friends and I thought Benny Hill and Monty Python were pee-in-your-pants hilarious. We spent half the school day on Monday reenacting our favorite skits.
@@Duke_of_Prunes In the 6th grade, I even had a Monty Python's Flying Circus T-Shirt. Got from the back of Movie Monsters magazine, I think. I LOVED that show?
I love that your mum knows of Benny Hill….he was one of my and my friends’ favorites back in high school….when he was shown nearly every night here in the states!
Finally someone gets the Benny Hill reference, which I used to watch as a kid in the States back in the early 80's. It came on late at night on Saturday so I didn't always get to watch it since I was a young kid and I'd go to sleep relatively early. There were some saucy ladies on Benny's show though!
The daughter explains that it's 7 minutes of laughs at the beginning and then they both sit there straight faced until the Benny Hill music broke the mom.
Your mum remembers Benny Hill! He came on here in the States late on Saturday nights when I was a kid 40 years ago. I found him pretty funny and I remember that music.
I did not expect your mom to recognize the silly quick slip of music that was from the Benny Hill Show. I must say I gained a ton of respect when she informed you and made me realize she may understand more of the comedic references than many people from the U.S. & U.K. alike.
Her mum was far more likely to recognise that tune than the daughter. I’m 42 and can remember Benny Hill from childhood. My 17 year old son wouldn’t have a clue though 🤷🏻♀️
Some of those jokes are kind of inside jokes from Family Guy, like the chicken fight and the knee thing...you'd have to see more of the show to get those. The Harry and Megan tour was actually South Park...it's a great episode though, you should definitely watch it!
I remember staying up late to watch The Benny Hill Show as a kid in the 70s. Where I’m at in the US that show used to come on between 12 and 2 in the morning and it was hilarious. Fun reaction
I can't say that I am particularly well versed on the ins and outs of British culture and whatnot, but a highpoint from my youth (around 12-14 years old. Late 70s and early 80s) was being able to stay up late and watch Benny Hill with my dad.
Actually there is a gentleman’s club in London that is so exclusive that only the very wealthy even can enter. They make the most ridiculous gambling decisions in there like which raindrop would reach the end first for so many pounds. I believe the royal family goes there a lot. It’s an odd place that’s for sure. It’s the place where the legendary around the world in 80 days book is based upon as the start point. Now a true explorer’s club does exist in New York City and they create new explorations of the world from fossils to new forms of travel. It’s a great place to see the world and the people who made it happen. Once a year just for fun they do the explorers club banquet which raises funds but the menu is very strange from the far corners of the globe. It introduces new forms of food to New York City like live octopus or insects. Honestly it’s a formal way to try food that doesn’t look that great. I believe many top CEOs are members like Elon musk who is doing space x with funding from the explorers club. Josh gates is a member of the archaeological branch but can watch mechanical explanations using different energy methods. He saw the first solar powered plane do a test run.
I noticed that they didn't get the Chicken Fight reference. If you don't know, there have been several amazing fight scenes with Peter and a giant chicken. They're always vicious, bloody and bloody awesome!
Some of these jokes were written for the ride or die fans that have been watching the show for over 20 years. The show is considered edgy, but I personally don't think so. The Princess Diana joke tho... Even my jaw dropped.
We grew up watching Benny Hill reruns (I'm Gen X), so it's funny that Milly doesn't know about him. I would have assumed it would be on in reruns there too. I was more fond of Faulty Towers, but the music from Benny Hill is always recognizable!
Some of the best laughs me and my siblings had back in the 70’s was watching Benny Hill show and also Monty Pythons Flying Circus! As Americans there were times when something was lost in translation but it still made us laugh! 😁

Fun fact: The British have had the second-highest standard of Dental care in the world, for years, behind either Germany or Denmark. Last time I looked, the U.S was in ninth place. Oh, and before anyone says, 'But what about Austin Powers?!' He never actually said the British all have bad teeth. What he said was, back in the '60s, people with bad teeth were allowed on TV in the UK.
I’ll tell you what as an American white, overweight, Jewish guy from the south. I think I hit quite a few of the Family Guy checkmarks. And man those jokes are wicked good. Lol.
Ah, the unmistakable crescendo of the ‘Gentlemen’s Thunderstorm,’ where a mere clearing of the throat transforms into an audacious duel of decorum and determination. One can almost envision a monocle audaciously springing forth in indignation amidst the symphony of newspaper rustles. Indeed, there is no finer exhibition of gentlemanly restraint and uproarious silence! 😂 #RefinementInRepartee
Now the reason why British Peter and the giant pheasant was doing well whatever the hell they were doing was because if you have ever seen the American Family guy, Peter has had a long-standing feud with a giant chicken 🐔 and this was I guess the British version of that!
Everyone keeps mentioning Benny Hill. What about Monty Python, Black Adder, EastEnders, Allo Allo, and The Bishop of Digby? Other British comedies as well?
Family Guy does very off colored jokes about everything and everybody. The ironic thing is that this cartoon is on Fox which is a very conservative Television station. Seth MacFarlane, the creator of the cartoon, grew up on the East Coast of the United States. That part of the U.S still has a strong U.K influence.
