They are beautiful, very true. Many years ago, about 54 years to be exact, my mother and I rented a beautiful little cottage in Dorset for a holiday. It was a bit of bad planning on my part as it was in the middle of nowhere with a bus service that ran twice a week, no village shops, and the nearest small town was 4 miles away (neither of us could drive) There was a pub, though which made up for the lack of a TV, (they weren't that standard in those days) It really was beautiful though, with a huge inglenook fireplace and attached to it there was a little add-on room, lined in slate , (fridges were not always standard either ) . Every day, a herd of cows walked through the village and right past the cottage. I got used to walking 4 miles each way for provisions, but Mum refused, saying her bunions wouldn't let her. There were only 2 drawbacks. The owner who lived in a huge house up the road who, I now can compare to Hyacinth Bucket. She would bang on the door nearly every day to see if we were ok and if I opened the door, she would stand and peer over my shoulder as if checking we hadn't burnt the floorboards or painted the beams white. She became unbearable, actually, and we would sometimes lie on the floor and hide to escape her daily inspections. The other bugbears were enormous 8 legged ones that hung around the beams and thatch, sharing it with other creepy crawlies and flying things. My mum was even worse than I was and would screech like a banshee whenever one appeared. Despite all of this, it was a good holiday though. When we got back to Mum's house, I just dumped all the cases and shopping bags on the floor, ready to sort out and unpack as I was only staying the night. During the evening we watched spiders as big as dinner plates emerge from the bags as they had decided that they obviously couldn't do without us. Poor Mum! She never really got over it.
Thanks for the lovely comment. It doesn't sound like that much has changed nowadays from 54 years ago except for the internet connection.glad to hear that real life experience.❤️🥰
What an ordeal you had! The shows about travel are always so enticing, I regret your trip wasn't near what you'd hoped for, but glad you and your Mom enjoyed spending the time together, come what may. Best wishes:)
@Rose_Bride Mum was terrified of spiders. I think it was her screaming that probably started my phobia off when I was young. Apart from the horrible beasties, the second week was OK as mum's male friend cane down with a car, and we could get out more. He, luckily, wasn't scared of the infestation of thatch living creatures, so he disposed of them outside. Later, I found out that they always return home, but I was unaware of it then.

Hi.thanks for the lovely comment.I have chat with some local residents about history. Most cottages were built over 400 years old.. Most recent building were after WW2. There is lots of interest info and History about Cotswolds village. I will try to cover as much as possible in my next video.❤️
