  • Have you ever experienced the shivers from music, or from hearing an inspirational story, or from being around someone you love? This response is called ASMR, and "ASMRtists" around the world are creating videos that try and recreate this experience, but how does it work?

Finally find a video based on actual experiment on ASMR. The popular other videos only talks.

Thank you for the great research and video! Yes, I feel the sensations associated with ASMR. I always did, even when I was a child, I just thought it’s some kind of magic of a person who causes the tingles and relaxation. Interestingly my sister does not have any any feelings for ASMR videos. I am looking forward to hearing more about new research results!

For whatever it's worth, musical frisson (what you described as chills when listening to music) is not the same thing as ASMR: although they are related.

I've been putting on a lot of ASMR, even when not going to bed. My nervous system has been overwhelmed for way too long, also loneliness from the pandemic and life circumstances so your hypotesis is highly likely. Definitely heps my parasympathetic system kick in.
I also respond better to different types depending on the severity of my anxiety, different days and moments of said days .

If they only use "videos" for ASMR studies, they are going to get inaccurate results; because not everyone who experiences ASMR will experience it from an ASMR video. For me personally, it is quite difficult to get past the cringe-ness of ASMR videos.
By the way, Synesthete here. I have many forms of Synesthesia.
