- Toobeah Hotel Motel Manager Michael Offerdahl has expressed his frustration over plans to potentially hand over land back to an Indigenous corporation.
A small town in regional Queensland Toobeah, roughly 400km from Brisbane, is where locals claim they've been totally blindsided by plans that could see nearly 95 per cent of land handed back to an Indigenous corporation as freehold.
“We don’t even have enough room in the town now, with the way the map is to actually facilitate the normal things a town has like sewerage, potable water, recreation use etc.,” he told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
Mr Offerdahl this week launched a Change.org petition calling for support to help stop land transfer to the Indigenous corporation.
The petition has already received more than 2,000 signatures so far.

I've only been in Australia since 1970 and can remember watching the news and Aborigines protesting outside of Parliament then with their 'tent embassy'. In 1991 yothu yindi sang a song treaty which is all about the aborigines taking Australia 'back'. This will never stop until non aboriginal Australians say no, Terra nullius was right.
The aborigines were hunter gatherers with no housing, wells, roads, basically settlements that would make them dominate the land and therefore be sovereign. The Mabo decision in the late 1980's has had a big impact because according to the courts he was able to demonstrate a permanent settlement in a very small part of Australia. Since then successive governments have been loose with that decision and allowed about 48% of Australia to be claimed under native title. The lefty loonies in government and business eg mining operator Forester like that and the aborigines are claiming mining royalties, basically money for nothing, and now they want you to pay rent on the land your house is on that you think you own to the amount of thousands added to your rate notice.
It's all about becoming Australia's landlords to perpetually collect money for nothing. The really screwed up thing is Australians have to first agree to make the aborigines sovereigns. Until they can nail down Terra nullius was right it will keep going.
So that I'm not repeating things see my response to another commenter. Terra nullius must be pushed for or it will cost everyone thousands per year for ever.

We have been told for over 6 years that the money has been given by our State Government to rebuild our Surf Club. It was damaged in a Cyclone and our kids and Life Savers do their best waiting. We train some of the best in the State that are then sent onto larger beaches where they are needed.
Now we are the fastest growing area in the State. Our home and land values are the fastest growing in QLD. About 10 months ago at our monthly meeting we were told our Surf Club had been returned to the Aboriginal people. They were given back Native Title to something they never owned. Why are they taking all of the best parts of Australia and they already own more of QLD than any other State?
Our Nippers are now training out of a shed next to the caravan park. Not on the beach. This isn’t the trial it has been going for some time and no one says anything until it is done. On the map the land my house is on belongs to that Native Title. I am Australian and my husband and I bought our home and land with money we worked for. No one gifted it to us.

I've been in Australia for 3 months and it makes me laugh everywhere you go, especially on the airlines when they come out with the spiel about 'original land owners' and 'elders of the community'. The only place you see these people, is outside the BWS rolling around on the floor, pissing their pants sat at the bus stop, or just generally making a mess in the parks and BBQ areas. When I was in Cairns, they had a group of 'security', that just go around picking the pissed up Abo's out of the gutters and stopping them from fighting, and of course the security knew them all by name. I lost count of how many I saw on the floor, spangled with bleeding head wounds, Darwin was probably the most prolific. :-)

This is a big issue. Councils and business' particularly in remote commnities have land claims that mean they may have to relcoate parks, dams, spetics etc
what a lot of these aboriginal activists dont even consider is tht without the colonization in australia is they woud not have any buildings/ houses /maintained parklands/shops they would all need to be livivg in lean twos chasing kangaroos and goannas for their dinner and unless this land was left to them by their elders i dont think a claim is justified a senoir aboriginal told me many years ago that they dont own the land they belong to it to care for it until they pass and leave their children to follow what they have done in the past

I'm all for recognition of original sovereignty, treaty, and land given back, but if we keep going with the current approach, we will have civil war.
We ( All Australians) should be able to negotiate as equals, with dignity and respect, and no homeowner or necessary facilities should be evicted, reduced, prevented or eliminated. We can literally go into space, and produce technological, digital and systems marvels, yet cannot get above kindergarten shouting matches in parliament with sleep deprived pollies and more land snatching without consultation or compassion.
