I also think Odin being alive at this point was a huge deterrent. Even though he wasn't as powerful as he used to be, legends of Odin's power and battle prowess are all over the galaxy. Maybe Odin was the Dumbledore to Thanos' Voldemort, the only one he ever feared.
Yeah in the comics Odin has fought Thanos to a draw at least once.
If the Bifrost wasn't destroyed, Odin and his Army would have come to Earth to assist the Avengers. Earth is still under Asgard's protection as one of the 9 Realms.

As mentioned Thanos was waiting for the opportunity to collect the stones. But I think there’s some missing information that we’re not aware of. I think he actually met The Red Skull at some point and knew about the soul stone he just didn’t have a way to get it. But that’s not got Thanos interest it was The Red Skull explaining to Thanos how he got to be where he was what alerted Thanos to the whereabouts of the stones on Earth and that they were not actually in Odin’s possession as he was led to believe. In the first Thor movie we were shown that Odin had a gauntlet with what appears to be the stones. This of course turns out to be fake but maybe it’s not supposed to be real for a reason it’s supposed to be seen as Odin as having the stones in reality he didn’t have the stones but it was supposed to be known that he did have the stones in this case this would have kept people from looking for the stones if they knew that Odin had them. But if they knew that Odin didn’t have the stones then they were easily obtainable this would have been the only way to get them but this is only possible if Thanos had at some point met The Red Skull and had been told about how he got to this location without using a spaceship.

Thanos’ style was to work through intermediaries more than on his own.
I believe Odin and the Ancient one would of stepped in to beat Thanos if he went to Earth in 2012 that's why he waited for Odin and the ancient one to die
The sorcerers have a way of using the dark dimension, even though they're taught not to, so The Ancient One may have used it against Thanos. 🤔
But I do think if Thanos attacked in 2012, the only true defense would be The Ancient One. If he arrived instead of Loki, would he come through the same portal as Loki or come down with his Chintarri? Either way, the Avenegers weren't united until after Loki stole the Teserect.

@@ADN64 ancient one is more likely to run away than assist. Loki would help thanos thinking he can get the stones later. They lack the backing of wakanda so they wouldn't have an effective army to assist. There only saving grace is Odin who wouldn't be happy with Thanos and may even get involved which completely changes things.

@@realityblood Without the gauntlet he couldn't do it alone, though he does have an army so he could win the fight, albeit in a unfair way.
If He Had attacked in 2012 He would have buried the Avengers and Loki but He would ve gotten buried equally by Odin or the ancient one.
Sure He would ve gotten the space and Mind stone and would ve been the mightiest being in the universe in theory but, as we have seen with the fight on titan, a good plan and a alliance of mighty Heroes which the sorcerers and the asgardians are, he still can get defeated.
He may also get the reality stone by defeating Maliketh and the power stone by getting it himself instead of Ronin but this is where he would end up Stuck. No Matter how much he warps around the Cosmos, he has to attack one was or the other and with the Ancient One and Odin being two of the most powerful and experienced beings allianced, thanos would still be cooked. Sure he would exchange some blows with Odin and His Army would probably be stronger than the argardian forces and sorcerers. But If they get thanos down they will all crumble. the Magic tricks of the Ancient One combined with the Odin force would just be too much
but this powerdynamic of the MCU is what makes me fall in love with Marvel instead of DC. in DC you also have many and perhabs better villains then in marvel but evil super man or darkside would just demolish everyone combined If only they would show up. in Marvel everyone and especially thanos is somewhat aware of their place at the foodchain.

I don't know why people forget Thanos was dealing with other planets in the universe.theres a reason he was called the dark lord and feared, because he was out there culling down worlds.this is before the stones and rhats why he used other warlords like ronan and loki to help him abit so as to expand his plan of halving the universe.odin and ancient one theories are fanboy cope
I always found it interesting that he first gave Loki the mind stone in the form of the scepter as a down payment to retrieve the space stone but also knew Loki had to use both to invade earth successfully, and if they won he would move closer to getting the time stone, yet Loki failed and all three were stuck on earth.
Another point is prior to 2013 knowone knew the location of the reality stone until Jane stumbled upon it in The dark world where it ends up being handed over to the Collector who must have opened his big month about acquiring it to someone and that information made its way to Thanos at some point as we see in Infinity war Thanos tells the Collector he knows he has the reality stone.
P.S. The power stones location was also unknown as we see in Endgame Thanos says in 2014 Ronan has located the power stone so as of 2012 only 3 stones locations were known to Thanos.
Also Iron Man threw a nuke at him. (Kinda)
