THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!! I have been praying on this because I’m embarrassed of my ADHD and didn’t know how to tackle things lately for and with my kids and the Lord showed me your video. God definitely uses you my dear, I love you my sister in Christ ! May God bless you always
As a parent with ADHD one thing I struggle with is curriculum. Pretty much everything you said, I resonate with. I get so overwhelmed by mess but I am also so messy. I have noticed when we use something like Gather Round where we only have a couple of books for every subject it's a little more manageable for me. But if I use separate curriculum for each subject I get super overwhelmed 😫
You have described so many of the struggles I have! My two girls have ADHD too, so it's often crazy town over here!🤪 You offered some great tips! Thank you! Love your channel!♥️
I struggle with the need to balance structure and change/spontaneity. In this season of homeschool we're usually able to finish work in the morning and then we can be more spontaneous in the afternoon. I have trouble continuing to stay focused and motivated to do anything structured in the afternoon which is problematic when we do want to take on an activity or project. I've been trying to figure out how to give myself a dopamine boost to keep going.
Um…yes, a hundred times yes! I have not been diagnosed with ADHD but I am pretty sure I am. I am exactly like this! I started cleaning one afternoon, which just comes at random times, and I had something half cleaned up or organized in EVERY room of the house!! 😆 Oh well, I just tried to complete each one…but it was frantic. Lol. I too have to get dressed and hair brushed and a pair of shoes (I need them in house anyway). I also schedule things 2 days a week to keep me motivated and getting out of the house. And almost everything else. Especially the set an expectation of 3/4 things to be fine each day! Omg, the change but needed structure-exactly! You are lovely. Thanks for sharing.
Wow this has been one of the most unexpectedly helpful videos I’ve seen. I had no idea these were all traits from adhd. Thank you for these *practical* tips! Super helpful. I’m glad I found your channel
Ooof, girl, I relate to soooooo much of this. I don't have an ADHD diagnosis but I've been suspicious for a year or so now, and it's even clearer to me more recently that my son is really struggling with things that would make sense if he also has ADHD. Anyway, nice to feel seen and I have found I've naturally used a lot of these strategies to cope. Pursuing simplicity (and minimizing decision-making) in basically every area of my life has helped a ton.
Thank you so much for sharing all of this. I so appreciate what you said at end referring to your movable start time. Starting at the same time each day is a very big desire of mine, however we rarely start even close to that time. Rather than 8:15, we usually land at around 10/10:30. I believe my struggle to motivate myself has also made it challenging to effectively motivate my children. I feel like the kids and myself NEED this predictable structure but motivation and consistency are my arch enemy…not to mention how debilitating it can feel when you know you’ll be met with opposition at the turn of most corners. Another thing that has become more challenging lately is the temptation to let each day happen instead of sticking to the same schedule each day (for the most part). It’s more like, let’s do what feels less oppositional first or easiest first in my subconscious, but I feel this has led to an inconsistent expectation for my kids. Does this feel or sound familiar to you? Haha
I used to be the same way! It’s been as my kids have gotten older and they desired to end the day sooner that we have been able to start at 8. Kids are great accountability but 100% there is a season for late starts
I don’t have ADHD but an active mind and these ideas are awesome!!! I clean what is bothering me more often than other stuff!!! My kids are the same!!! My older daughter has been tested for ADHD and she had an active mind!!!
We got the blitz idea from you a year or two ago and it's so helpful. It's so ingrained in our family now that whenever I go to grab our visual timer my kids or husband ask "oh is it time for a blitz?" 😂
Wow, this video is powerful! Watching this video really made me see things in myself and realizing yup that’s my ADHD and that’s okay but I need to reschedule it. I am thankful you mentioned the funks, those are so hard and doing homeschool during them. Also. Curriculum buying is a thing, I got Masterbooks math for my preschooler as a gentle introduction and then got sucked into the math with confidence and now have both lol my kiddo has ASD so it will be interesting to see what fits then best but still. Rabbit trails of curriculum
Oh yes this is me and my ADHD to a T! Very helpful tips! I love that title of "if you give a mouse a cookie day" I beat myself up often for those days. I love how you put parameters but still allow yourself the grace. I find myself trying to implement tips that other homeschoolers share and beating myself up for not fitting in that box. Your tips help me with ADHD as a mom. Thank you! (Yes the desire for new and change but the need for consistency... The cause for many struggles in my homeschool)
I have ADHD as well and I am the same way with mess and cleaning 😅 the 15 minute blitz is a great idea! Important interesting and urgent 😂 this is great! I was recently diagnosed so I'm floundering with setting up systems in my life for organization and consistency. The planning thing 😂😂 is so relatable to me as well. Please share more about homeschooling as an ADHD momma! I have found it's hard to find much info or encouragement in this area! Thank you so much for sharing! I just had a give a mouse a cookie cleaning session last night in our homeschool room 😂😂
I have given up on homeschooling but I want to try again. This video has been very helpful. How do you create structure with waking yourself and waking your kids? I have ADHD kids also and together we just can’t start our day successfully. Do you have tips on staying on track and completely a full year of schooling.
Hi there! I just wanted to come back to this video after implementing your tips this school year. Thank you so much! I was able to give myself a lot more grace and felt less shame about things looking different for us as a neurodivergent homeschooling family! I can't thank you enough! 🥹🫶

I allow myself “Give A Mouse a Cookie” days as well! It’s so refreshing, especially after a week of my brain trying to stay disciplined and focus 🧠

I love that idea of getting together with another homeschool family to do science experiments!!

Love that!
Wow! You have such a great handle on how to "trick" your brain into doing what you need it to do!! I love these ideas!
Thanks it’s been a life long struggle
