These would make great wilderness repeaters when paired with a solar panel, etc

I’m trying to set a backup communication system for my family and I. I have chosen GMRS for our purposes. Because once SHTF situation starts we will all move on to the same property. My house is the meeting spot. I live in the country plus my house is in top of a hill. Most cases I can cover a 1.5 mile circle around my home with hand held units . I live between two small towns . One town is about 5 miles from me . In the dead of winter using 2 watt hand held radios I can almost talk to another 2watt radio within a mile of the town . I figure once I get a base station the range will increase to town one.
Side note hand helds will be switched to 5 watt GMRS radios. Town number 2 is around 8 miles to me. Again I can almost reach that town . I figure if I put a portable repeater out and closer to each town I will be able to in SHTF be able to communicate with in coming family members. When I start the simplex repeater part of my communication project I’m not wanting to set up the repeater’s to leave in the spot I set up . They will be set out just for a couple days . So I’m just going to use batteries and not use 12volt batteries and solar panels. That way the repeater set will be quick to deploy and to extract. We will be using them at our relocation area in spots that we don’t have good transmission and be able to have property coverage.
Basically I’m setting up a GMRS system for my family/ friends.

simplex doesn't necessarily mean "Single" freq.. you can set up the radio to Tx on one freq and Rx on a different freq, and set all your radios accordingly. simplex just means that the repeater will only either Rx or Tx at one time, as opposed to a duplex which will Tx and Rx simultaneously
