    I like the subtle haunt props... The Haunted Mansion in Disneyland had those changing portraits and hollow head illusions that absolutely grabbed my attention and imagination more than all the pop up scares combined. I wished the whole mansion was a walk through of the spooky and subtle because I appreciate the efforts and period appropriate sets they used... and I should mention that I was perhaps 12 at the time. I still have that notion today, but people want the in-your-face jump scares, which is fine, or gore which to me that's not haunting but horror... which is its own genre, but that get mixed in. But I agree, it's the aesthetic of spooky and subtle that I prefer.

      Hi Ray, I agree with you completely. Disneyland's 'The Haunted Mansion' made a huge impact on me as a kid and it has obviously influenced all of my props and Halloween displays. As always, thanks for watching and for the thought filled comment.

      I feel the same way. Gore or a clown with a chainsaw is a cheap easy scare. It has its place, but I don't use it myself. My haunt is all Disney-eske, as well. "Goofy-Spooky" is what I call it.

      Agreed! My favorite haunt/ Halloween experiences are more spooky and subtle. The other stuff is part of the general season these days, but it isn’t the true spirit (no pun intended!) of Halloween 😁

    There are so many UA-camrs that do halloween prop videos. Yours however are extraordinary! You have an uncanny ability to use unexpected items like a baby swing, or a corkscrew to effectively animate a prop! That is a true skill! But what I enjoy the most about your videos is that they are concise and well put together. And you have clearly tested everything ahead of time and there are no surprises or "oops." So many presenters try to inject humor and personality into the process and it makes for long stupid videos. Conversely, yours are very on point and easy to follow! And, as others have mentioned, you have an appreciation for subtlety, that is a great thing!

      Hi Bill. First, let me apologize for not replying to you in a timely manner. Second, thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful comment. You have obviously taken the time to watch many of my videos which I appreciate. Decades ago I stumbled my way through an educational system that relentlessly told me I was deficient. As it turns out, I just learn and think differently. Perhaps that is why I try to teach others in a way that would have been more beneficial to me way back then. Whatever the reason, I am glad that you and others appreciate how I present my videos. Everything happens for a reason.

    I built this based on your instructions and it turned out great! Looks amazing and I can’t wait to add it to my Halloween display. I ended up gluing the crossbar to the top of the rod / washer in addition to the guy wires. Nice that the candelabra can be easily lifted off. Great design and perfect instructions, thank you!

      Thanks CFAO. I still have two more videos in the works before the season is out... but they have been delayed. They are also not "stand alone" props, but smaller ones that work well in a setting with other props (think "Witche's Den"). Expect those in September.

    I think most people would presume this hangs from a ceiling wire, so it would look extra-creepy if displayed outdoors where there's no ceiling from which to hang it. Keep 'em guessing on how it was done 🙂

      I have been creating Halloween displays since Jr. High... that was back in 1970-71. For many years my sister and I created large Halloween displays at our parent's house in Northern California, encompassing their front yard, porch and garage. Things change and with the passing of our parents and with the downsizing of my own home, my annual Halloween display is quite small... yet effective. It was the very fact that I had so many of my unique props in storage that I conceived of the idea to share them on a UA-cam channel. Thus, HALLOWEEN DIY & HOW-TO was born. Thanks for asking.

      @@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms Somewhat similar beginnings. In 1968 my mother said. “You’re 12 years old. Too old to Trick Or Treat. Here, hand out the candy.” Being a theatre oriented creative type even back then, I also started haunting my parent’s house in Southern California. It got bigger every year with school friends and family involved. Then I moved out and have been doing both pro and home haunting since then.

    I'm helping design a haunted event that's sort of like a walk-through play, so we won't have a strong soundtrack to cover the noise the Mamaroo makes. Do you have any thoughts about how to deal with that?

    • @HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms
      @HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms  9 місяців тому

      Hi Katie, I am scratching my head on this one since your Mamaroo should actually be rather quiet since it helps to but babies to sleep. The only audible sounds should be coming from the built-in sound options, which can be turned off. Perhaps there something wrong with yours if it is making that much noise.

    • @HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms
      @HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms  10 місяців тому

      A quick Google search for 'LED Candelabra' or 'Plastic Candelabra' brings up a variety of them. Most have candles already attached and up to 3 arms, which probably means they are lighter in overall weight then what I used. They vary greatly in style depending on the look you are after and you would have to adjust their attachment accordingly. 5 armed candelabras seem to be metal.. but who knows because each Halloween season brings a new batch of products.
