Nice comparison. Only thing I'd note is that you stated GH came out ahead on final PPM, but that means the nutrient uptake was inhibited in GH, which actually puts it behind. This aligns with what I usually hear about MB being more "available" to the plant. Have you done any taste comparisons?
Thanks. You have a valid point, I would have liked to see the same ppm in both but wanted to make sure I was providing both with a solution that was proven successful. As a follow up, I did change my grow over after this trial to master blend and made the comment to my wife the produce has been more flavor packed, she agreed.
MB: Initial ppm = 667 Final ppm = 395 667-395 = 272 total ppm used GH: Initial ppm = 802 Final ppm = 508 802-508 = 294 total ppm used GH used more, a whole 22ppm. It is a great comparison of the two nutes. Would have loved to see what the plants weigh.
When I see posts like this with information I didn't include... thanks for the very informative reply. It's something I'll think about providing in the future. Weight and uptake, as long as I can do it accurately.
Exactly the question I wanted to ask. I would think, logically, that higher PPM after the grow would mean that fewer/less nutrients were taken up by the plant. The next comment, by SeedOfUnderstanding, seems to address this, though. Still, a good question.
Clearly I need to think about this for future trials. I have another nutrient comparison lined up from a viewer request, about 2 months away. Taste is really subjective but in happy to eat fresh vegetables and offer my opinion. If i have enough sample size weight is also a great indicator, I'll try and incorporate.
Excellent! I'm glad the MasterBlend worked well for you. I grew some more Daikon's, but no video... in a nutshell, I put the sprout in a cloning collar and grew Kratky style. I was afraid the collar would choke the plant, the opposite happened. My cloning collars got thrashed, they turned out really nice. Looking forward to the RO vs tap water experiment. Smash.
That's awesome that you're daikon radishes went well. I really enjoy the hydroponic radishes, in the garden they don't get near as big. Thanks for stopping in and taking the time to comment as always. Enjoy the weekend!!
Heck I even use masterblend in my vineyard in my injector its good stuff and the tomato formula is also good for grapes its about the right ratio for grapes.
@@HouseDadLife Grapes dont like tons of nitrogen but do like tons of phosphorous and a large amount of potassium which is usually the macronutrient that causes the most issues in vineyards because you have to stay on top of replenishing what goes away when you pick the grapes.
Thanks for the great video! Already subbed after your strawberry video. Do you have some advice on what books/websites/scientific papers to read? I am currently curious on what PH/EC levels, as well as lighting time frames I should tune my (soon to be used aeroponic) system depending on the crops I want to farm. I can find hundreds of sources for different strains of cannabis (which I’m not growing nor interested in) but no reliable (/contradicting) ones for strawberries, raspberries, tomatoes, salad, beans… Would like my first harvest to be decent, although skill & knowledge obviously takes time. If you already have a video on it, I would really appreciate it. Moreover, keep up the good work! You really put a lot of effort in the videos and it shows :)
Glad you enjoyed the video, it's a pleasure to hear when people like the content. I do have plans for a better ph and ppm guide but that will be a while until it's live on the channel. So in the mean time to get you started. Pick a hydroponic nutrient and mix it at half strength. If the ph goes up fast more nutrients is needed, if it does down, less nutrients are needed. When you have added nutrient solution into the reservoir that equals the capacity of the reservoir, change the reservoir solution and start with fresh nutrients. 600 to 800 ppm has been the sweet spot with ro water. Ph 6 is my ideal but 5.5 to 6.5 is fine.
GH is a more complete line with the macro and micro in all their proper ratios. It’s actually close to Jacks 321 ( it being about the best ) . But Masterblend is quite a bit cheaper. If you only compared the Micro Grow and Bloom and not the Armor Si or Calmag the cost is lil closer.
I forgot to add each masterblend separately and made a mix of all 3 granulars and added to a zip lock bag for convenience. I just mesure a quantity by weight and use a hand blender with some warm water until a good solution is made and add it to a bucket!
I haven't figured that out yet but they are a great nutrient, start by just following the exact instructions on the bag. There's a fairly recent video that talks about how to read the ph to understand what plants are telling you.
I love flora series. Great results with micro and bloom in equal parts (5-5-5) but not so fond of the dyes. I grow my food to avoid things like petrol derived dyes, even if its 'a tiny' amount.

MB:
Initial ppm = 667

667-395 = 272 total ppm used

GH used more, a whole 22ppm.

This is a good video and helpful. Thank you for the time and effort to make and post it.
Glad you enjoyed the video, I'll be continuing to put more of these side by side comparisons on the channel. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Nice to know the ratio is the same for grapes as well.

Rocking it,
Only thing I do is add a tsp of bat guano and 1/2 tsp dolamad lime for every gallon of soil mixed in the soil... Not in the solution duh
You just made me think about the addition of lime.... hmmm, i'll have to look into this.
It looks you need to feed a higher EC for GH. good job either way
Thanks and you could very well be correct.

Were those small dots floating in the GH bucket, insects.. some sort of root aphid?
I typically get a bit of perlite that washes through along with old roots.

I've been thinking about comparing the Jack's to masterblend, that test might be in order.

By doing this the calcium nitrate will bind, you'll have much better results by doing it separately, I had to learn this the hard way.
Yes, I finished the combined dry batch, so I’m mixing separately for now on!
What is a good master blend ppm for growing tomatoes?
I haven't figured that out yet but they are a great nutrient, start by just following the exact instructions on the bag. There's a fairly recent video that talks about how to read the ph to understand what plants are telling you.
Good one

I've never tried the flora series but have been curious. Might have to look into them.
Do you have salt build up like General Hydro?
I haven't had any issues with salt build up, but I'm sure you would in another media like coir. I stick with perlite or hydroton.
