- We recently reviewed the new 2023 Toyota Sequoia Full-Size SUV and even featured the rear storage in a live stream, and in both videos we received several comments criticizing the new model's configuration. In this video, Tim Esterdahl finds three competitors to the Sequoia and compares their rear cargo room and storage solutions, to see how the segment stacks up.

I just want a gas engine, no battery and a flat floor in the Sequoia. Just keep it simple.
They did the hybrid only to maximize profit. They wanted to cancel the sequoia after 2022 and the engineer asked to keep it. So they told him to maximize profit.
yes. more expensive crap to break
AMEN!
I really would have liked to see the Sequoia get better real world MPG's... I know most will say "who cares!".. I do I recently rented a full size 2023 Suburban for a family road trip and was pleased and surprised to see we averaged 25 mpg, with an average cruising speed of 80 mph. Some of the road tests I've seen on the Sequoia are getting 15-17 mpg... should have kept the V8 at that point. As for the question of storage, I would much prefer a completely flat surface, or at least the option to remove 3rd row seats. I was sold on the Sequoia until I drove the Suburban, and am now looking at the Yukon XL. Great video, welcome to TX... enjoy the fair!
THANK YOU for addressing this! Such a great detailed walk through and showcase of all of the options. Still not a fan, since I have a 2nd gen myself and I LOVE the flat loading floor with the 3rd row stored.
The space behind the 3rd row with the seat up seems extremely small compared to the others. My wife liked it alot but said no after seeing the space
The tahoe/suburban/yukon/escalade all had solid axles and no fold flat 3rd row seats up until the new one came out and now all of the sudden everyone says no fold flat 3rd row is a deal breaker. They went back to a solid axle because its stronger, tows better, and has more articulation than an independent rear. I live in a rural area with dirt roads so that setuo would work for me. And the shelf does make the 3rd row flat, albeit elevated, plus you have 2 tiers with the rear shelf.
Actually, Toyota went back to the solid axle on the Sequoia because it was either "make it as similar to the Tundra as possible to save money, or we'll cancel the Sequoia". It was not because this is better at anything except off-roading, and only if you're pushing it past the limits of an independent rear suspension articulation, which perhaps 1 in 1000 owners of this new Sequoia either have the ability to inclination to do.
@@RJ-vc2ju not saying thats the reason they did it, just saying I prefer that setup myself. I dont know the reason they did it, but I am willing to bet that you are right though.
Exactly. Well said! I will admit that I am a long time Toyota owner and that is the only manufacture I would buy due to the amazing reliability Toyotas offer. I have NEVER had any issues with my Toyotas. I kept reading about how people were complaining about the rear storage capacity on the new Sequoia, and I bought into it and ended up not buying one for the family. Even after having horrible experience with domestic brands, mainly FCA, I bought a brand new 2023 Suburban RST instead of a Seqouia. BIG MISTAKE! This thing has been nothing but problems from the very first week I bought it. Needless to say, I am trading it in for a 2024 Seqouia TRD Pro. This video illustrated that in fact, the Seqouia rear cargo is not as bad as people make it out to be. The rear solid axle is better for towing and articulation for off road use. Lesson learned. Never buy American. Its back to Japanses for me.
I like how everybody has to justify why the shelf system is so awesome. Anyways.
One think I noticed in the videos is the lack of cargo space behind the 3rd in the Sequoia. Once you push the seats all the way forward only people without legs can fit in the 3rd row.
Also, Time didn’t measure the difference between the top of the bumper and the lip going into the cargo area on the Sequoia.
I personally can get over some of the issues with the new design, but the general lack of room in the 3rd makes it useless as a full size SUV compared to the rest of the class. My 2011 Sequoia just has so much room in the 3rd row and good amount of cargo space. I would have like the same amount in the new design, instead it went the other way.
For $70-80k Toyota Sequoia is not competitive in terms of interior space. Toyota screwed up.
I don't think the new Sequoia can complete with other full size SUVs in regards to the cargo capacity or seating arrangement, but I think it will appeal to current 4Runner owners that need to tow heavier trailers. Given the high base price, I think many people would be interested in non-hybrid SR5 option with a 3rd row delete option, but it's more efficient from a production standpoint right now to have them all be the same, plus I'm sure the hybrid aspect gives them some bonus points with the EPA (even if it isn't crazy efficient).
I would choose a Tahoe.
I just got back from looking at this at the State Fair. My opinion, yes it is that bad. My wife LOVED the look, but just couldn’t figure out how to make it work for our family. No way to load a 75lb dog, a double jogger, etc. Huge let down.
Thank you for the follow up.
appreciate your thoughts.....we need that back to work
Did the front and back seat seem to have as much room as a Ford Expedition? That’s been the most comfortable to me lately but my wife drives one. Looking for something different.
Things I learned from this video: Wagoneer is by far the ugliest suv currently in production.
The Toyota looks nice but is worthless as a 3 row suv for more than a couple without kids and the Tahoe is still the top dog in the large suv segment.
The tahoe had a worse 3rd row all the way up until this newest one came out and they still sold tons of them. And it didnt have the shelf to make it a 2 tier flat load space like the sequoia does. I prefer the solid axle because its better for towing and has better articulation offroad.
Agreed on the wagoneer it’s fugly.
Tahoe isn’t too for largest tho. Suburban and Yukon XL - especially the diesel where it gets 600 miles a tank.
This new sequoia pisses me off. Lol.
Two things stop me from agreeing on the Tahoe: the reliability of the cylinder deactivation system as this has a history of killing engines, and I think I would scream every time I would use that push-button transmission selector. Otherwise, yes.
@@davidkaminski615 that and the stupid auto start/stop that you have to remember to disable every time you start the vehicle so it doesn't shut off every time you stop.
one of your more informative videos!! thanks
Great comparison video, thank you for that!!
For me, I care most about overall cargo volume behind the 3rd and 2nd rows. Every year for family holiday trips, I use every inch of volume behind the 2nd row of our GMC Acadia (the bigger 2014 version). This body style (and the current Chevy Traverse) has roughly the same volume as the larger Tahoe/Yukon. The volume specs on this new Sequoia are significantly less than its competitors due to the elevated 3rd row. I love the power and hybrid aspect of the Sequoia, as well as the design, however I think the cargo volume eliminates it from my search to replace my Acadia. I'm now leaning more toward the Duramax Tahoe/Yukon however if they only made a hybrid Duramax, that would be a no questions asked home run!!! If Ford put the Powerboost powertrain into the Expedition, that would also be a front runner for me, the Powerboost power and MPG is impressive.
I really hope ford does a Powerboost Expy. The challenge, like the sequoia, is where to put the battery pack without impacting the level of rear cargo. In the F-150 it can sit under the 2nd row because we transistion into the truck bed on leaf springs. With the expy I think it presents a real issue where it impact the rear cargo specs and 3rd row spec too much to make sense. We'll see.
Great video. Really appreciate the comparisons you did. The measurements were very helpful. The Sequoia being lower compared to the others is great I think & it’s still flat with options. Have an expedition now but anxiously awaiting my new Sequoia! Can’t pass up the hybrid & getting back into a Toyota
I’ve been seen some pretty paltry mpg numbers from the Sequoia, the hybrid system might be better suited for more power vs economy

We waited years for this truck to replace our current Sequoia. Having just checked out a new one on the dealership floor, we're walking away unconvinced by this third row and shelf action. A bit surprised and disappointed.
I am long time Toyota owner and fan (since 1998 with 4 runner’s and now with 2nd gen Sequoia with 200K miles). Love the exterior of the new sequoia and the modern, clean dash, the power train, and reliability - I’ve been waiting for years for the re-design only to be very disappointed with interior and solid rear axle. As a person that uses the storage area very frequently to its max. Limits I simply hate the interior (third seat leg room and knee in your chin position, third row head room and smallest storage space behind the third row seat when its in the upright position. The shelve system is a big compromise when you need flat storage (loss of 11” of height is significant volume loss. Wen you add the 11” to the height of the opening of the rear hatch, then this suv has by far the tallest entry height of any. IMO there are better overall solutions for a 3 row large SUV at a better overall ride quality and utility. I rather have the flat surface any day than the sequoia’s attempt to pass this convaluted design as “flexible” to overcome the hybrid battery placement. Unfortunately and reluctantly I just walked away from the Sequoia and placed my order for an SUV with better utility, ride, comfort, and amenities. Maybe if they lose the hybrid design or find a better battery placement to enable the large flat space and indep. Rear suspension (which they never will) I will take another look….but I think once the hype dies down, the sales volume will be lower than the second gen.
Boom. You said it right!
As a sequoia fanatic….
I had a gen 1 sequoia (pre-2007). It was great. Got a gen 2 (08-2022) Still have it. 206,200 trouble free miles.
The new gen 3 (2023+) has more power and gets supposedly 22-24 mpg (rear wheel drive only).
The new sequoia is 35 cubic feet smaller on the interior. It’s not much bigger than the current 4Runner interior.
The second row no longer sliders. It only flips. The third row slides forward. So if you slide the third row forward for more cargo room, the third row passengers lose ALL of their leg room into the back of the second row. In normal position, the third row is smaller than the second gen sequoia due to the batteries under the third row seats.
The new sequoia only is offered in a hybrid - Toyota did this to make the biggest bang for their buck because they wanted to cancel the sequoia due to lack of sales in North America but the engineers asked them to keep it and Toyota told them to maximize profit…
The new sequoia costs approximately $61000 USD delivered before fees for cloth seats and rear wheel drive.
For myself…I’d buy another second gen used with 50k miles for $60k before I buy the new one for $60k….
I have six people in my family. We throw roof cargo and a big cargo tote on the trailer hitch and fold down two of the third row seats. It has more than enough cargo for my family. But again…it’s 35 cubic feet bigger than this 2023 sequoia.
So for reference for the size of a 2008-2022 sequoia, it is 15 inches shorter than the Ford Expedition MAX, but it is only one cubic feet smaller on the interior.
The 08-2022 sequoia is also rated the most reliable full size vehicle in the world tied first with the land cruiser 200 series.
Man, I have to completely disagree. I think this is the best Sequoia ever made. I love the traditional solid rear axle with locker. It's a nice blend of Sequoia/Land Cruiser. I expect a traditional true-to-form suv from Toyota, not an oversized car like a Yukon. Toyota nailed it. I predict a new market share in the SUV market
The Sequoia is a mess with that variable load floor. How did Toyota think having the third row seat not line up with the back make any sense, it doesn’t. My Highlander was always flat with the third row folded down.
Nice that they unlocked it for you. I was there on Sunday and it was locked and they wouldn't unlock it. I was all set to buy one but now having second thoughts due to interior design/space.

@@americandude3825 I agree with all, your points. The plan was to trade in my 21 4runner but after thinking about cargo space, it doesn't make sense. Then I was going to get the new expedition but I refuse to pay that much for a Ford 😂
@@johnvu8305 yup. Love my second gen sequoia. Got it for a steal back in 2012.
same here ....damnit toyota. 😕
In my opinion it is not worth the sticker price they are asking and that is msrp price without the BS price hikes dealers are trying to do. Same for the tundra never thought I would pick s ford over a tundra but dollar to dollar you get more from the equivalent ford price
Toyotas tundra and this sequoia have been big let downs. Seems like Toyota doesn’t care much to compete with Ford and Chevy.
Bums me out because my wife and I have owned many Toyotas, but they are starting to fall behind.
And to top it off, Toyota took so long to do the redesigns, no doubt we all expected more.
Dealer told me 7k mark up on hybrid tundras. I told them they are going to lose loyal customers because they are allowing their dealers to be greedy. They quoted me a sequoia at over $85k. Tahoe was $64k. I cannot justify spending that kind on money on a sequoia. Smh
This is a great video Tim, the comparison is super helpful. I am a long time Toyota owner and a fan. Been waiting for a Sequoia redesign and had one on order for almost 8 months now. This cargo setup is absolutely useless and the third row seating room is horribly cramped for a gigantic SUV! The foot room is even worse than our Sienna!
To add insult to the injury the 3rd row is not even removable! Which means you can't even sacrifice the third row to carry extra luggage. Final nail in its coffin is the unsettled ride due to the solid rear axle!
Pains me to say but Toyota most lively lose a customer in me, Tahoe/Yukon seems to be way more practical!
Love the new Sequoia. A perfect blend of Sequoia/Land Cruiser. Absolute brute
Did you or can you get depth measurements of the Sequoia rear cargo area with the third row all the way forward and all the way back?

What is the width of the cargo opening?
Maybe with a longer wheelbase they can fix the problem. Those seats take up a lot of volume when not in use.
I predict that shelf is not going to stay around long term. Every rear storage separation accessory I've ever seen eventually gets lost or broken.
Great video! I'm a big fan of this new this new sequoia
Hey Tim, thanks for the video. I would like you to consider a video on headroom and legroom. I’m 6’5” tall and that’s the first number I look for. Being so tall I have a very tall family. If you look at the second seat headroom in a Toyota Tundra/Sequoia vs Ford, GM or Ram, Toyota is lacking. Especially with the sunroof. I’m a Toyota fan but am concerned another company will be getting our business. I’ve seen your competitors illustrate the headroom issues in both new Toyotas also. Could you do a video with a big guy comparing them. I bet you would be surprised at the differences.
I think there are a lot of videos are out there taking about 3rd row seat, like Raiti’s or Alex. If you are trying to fit adults over 5’8 and trying to take a long road trip with a lot of luggages, just forget about this Sequoia, although the engineer said the luggages can go on the roof rack.
@@jerryding2359 actually watching Truck King they showed where someone 6’2” in the back seat of the tundra or sequoia hit their head on the ceiling in the trucks with sunroofs. They had to recline their seats to keep their head off the ceiling. If this is real then I could never own either of these vehicles.
@@Sparktrician I already decided to go with a Tundra instead of a Sequoia due to the lack of cargo area. But even with Tundra, F-150 comes with a flat 2nd row floor, but Tundra doesn’t. Kinda pushing me towards F-150 more now. Ohh well, Tundra is still a lot cheaper than F-150z
Toyota's reliability is the main reason I'm looking at a Sequoia (I had a 2007 model and it was built like a tank and handled Nigeria's awful roads joyfully like a boss with absolutely no problems in 7 years of ownership). So reliable. We're back in America and I would love another one but the cargo shortage is a massive flaw for me, unfortunately. Alternatively, the Tahoe would've been a great second option for me (actually, my wife) if not for GM's well documented lifter engine failure issues which can be hit or miss. We will sit tight for now.
Wait. You drove a Sequoia in Nigeria? That sounds like a cool story.
@@Pickuptrucktalk Yes. Years ago, I moved to Nigeria with my family and lived there for 7 years when our kids were small (we're back in US and they are in college now). The roads were a daily "off roading" experience and the Sequoia handled potholes and 3+ feet floods like a champ. I bought it used and it keep rolling along. The maintenance was oil, filter and brakes. I may have had a need to repair one of the joints or shock absorbers but no engine or transmission issues. For road trips, we simply removed the 3rd row and had more than ample cargo space. So functional and reliable. Nice channel. Remain blessed!
Toyota dealers have the sequoias marked up 7k to 10k. Dealers are selling limited models for over $85k. Really wanted one but the Tahoe has more leg room and the flat folding third row with 4wd for $64. Sorry Toyota but Chevy got my business this time.
Do you know if GM fixed the lifter issues?
@@Nixonskitchen wasn’t aware of the lifter issue with Chevy. A mechanic from the local Toyota told me that they are having issues with the turbo and the hybrid system on the Sequoia’s and tundras. This issue with Toyota did not deter me, it was their pricing.
People are paying over msrp for a full size suv that’s almost the same size as a mid size? Might as well buy a Tahoe and invest the dealer markup Toyota dealers are charging. Then in 5-7 years you can buy a new suv again.
Is Tahoe the only vehicle with latch in the 3rd row for car seats?
good vid but I'd be interested to know the height of the cargo area of the sequoia. This would be the distance between the folded flat 3rd row and the top.
I wish I would had taken even more measurements and sorry I don't have that information right now.
Thanks for the thorough review. One UA-camr mentioned hesitation or chatter “Chadder” when the car switched from electric motor to gasoline engine? What are your thoughts? Was that hybrid to gasoline transition felt when you drove it or was it smooth?
If you never driven any hybrid before then you'll notice it a more at first. There always will be some subtle different when the engine starts but it nothing new or abnormal. I notice the start much less in my Tundra the my Lexus RX and the Tundra transitions much more often too.
@@paulf9653 great, thanks for the info Paul!
Thank you for the comparisons. I am 100% sure that my Full size dog would agree, the flat loading is the way to go = TAHOE ! as I sit in my second Highlander... from a Tahoe ( should have kept but loving my cheaper fill ups gas station runs lol ). It really does come down to what do you want and are willing to pay for. Also not even throwing in the reliability factor of a Toyota.
Thx again
My main issue with the Sequoia is the overall space behind the 3rd row. Would rather have a toyota over the other brands but the expedition max is the only one with enough room behind the 3rd row.
I think Toyota came up with a good idea considering they couldn’t do it like the others because of the underpinnings. Just takes a little common sense to adjust as needed. Can be flat, just not flush with bumper height. Not that big a deal to me.
Did you measure from the 2nd row to the tail latch like the other SUV’s ?
I did from the end of the 2nd row.
@@Pickuptrucktalk would you mind sharing the measurement? Love the content I have the notification bell on :)
@@Nixonskitchen dang it. Call me on it. It’s been months since this video. Sorry.
I'm still trying to buy a yukon xl. I would love something a little longer
Yukon XL and suburban are the biggest SUVs you can get other than an old excursion.
Toyota screwed this up bad. It is 35 cubic feet smaller than the previous years.
Look Tim, there's only one acceptable unit of measurement here: Ciminillos. Get back to us with the conversion.
😂
The depth behind the third low looks too small for full size suv. I think it comes down to if you give up all leg room in the third row when you slide them up for cargo. I’m imagining that Toyota was trying to keep the wheel base short.
That is becoz of TNGA platform..Even minivan Sienna lost lot of interior and cargo space
“It will fit a sheet of plywood.” WTF are you guys doing with all this plywood in every car you buy?!
What size cooler will fit in the back of the Sequoia? Doesn’t look like a very large one would.
My yeti 65 is 17 at it's widest point. With the seats up and in the 50% forward position (approx 31inches of legroom still), this should fit. Westcott designs did measurements and with the seats all the way back, there was 14.5 inches. At the floor, which is enough as it is for the base of my cooler.
This sequoia is 35 cubic feet smaller than the previous one. I had a first gen and now own a second gen. 2008 with 206k trouble free miles. This new one is crap interior space and made with plastic bumper panels.
Disappointed in the storage space behind the 3rd row. No way to use all 3 rows + luggage for a road trip with this truck.
Ask Toyota to add removable 3rd row seats to make storage optionally flat! That would meet my wife's approval :) Despite the lower load height, it still takes away storage with the step shelf. Wife says no :(
I watch this entire video and you didn't answer the question that you should have which is how far back with the seats up do you have to load things in what are those dimensions? For people that buy this for family car you need to have the third row in use how much can you fit back there from front to back? It seems bizarre to me that you can't get these in a extended wheelbase I mean you've got this giant V8 pickup truck based SUV with like a fraction of the space of a tiny minivan for trunk area
Ok here is my question..... can it compete with a 15 4runner in cargo space (second row not folded).... and how much could that "shelf" really hold..... I really hope for a reply

Great video showing cargo capacity. The challenge with the Sequoia is that the 3rd row does not fold flat because of the placement of the battery. At a minimum, you should be able to remove it. If people are looking to carry more than 5 people, they're likely to go for a minivan. It appears as though you could not put a average size snow thrower in the back because of the bump created by that useless 3rd row.
Yota designers really didn’t do a good job and they will never gain market share with the bad design.

People are still buying the Toyota pickup and 4runners from the 80s to go overlanding, 30-40 years from now, people will be buying 2020s sequoia's to do the same. This is why Toyota decided to go with a solid rear axle
Not only is it that bad, it’s worse than we could have imagined. This thing has the same passenger and cargo space as a Highlander 😑.
Hi, appreciate the effort and the pro-Toyota stance, but once you can get your hands on a new Sequoia and a 2nd gen Sequoia at the same time, please do a side by side comparison of the space and cargo configuration, including with you sitting in both 2nd and 3rd rows of the vehicles. You'll quickly demonstrate that Toyota's design decisions for the new Sequoia will be a failure with 99% of the people that shop for large SUVs.
None of the configuration of seating matters as much as the overall vehicle. They are designed to haul people who require seats. Pull a trailer if you want to haul something. The Toyota will outlast all the others. It is the best American made large SUV available.
Why can't they make a tail gate like the station wagons had had before?
Tim - I know this video is several months old, but do you know if Toyota ever intends to offer the Sequoia in a non-hybrid?
That battery pack impacting the rear storage is just plain stupid. Practically, who wants to tinker around with a floating shelf. My wife wanted one of these so bad to replace her Expy, but even for her this storage system makes it 100% no go. It's like Toyota doesn't recognize the market this class of vehicle what designed. Load height delta isn't a big deal. I wan't practical storage for family luggage/road trips for a family of 5. That's why one would generally be buying this large of a vehicle. Too make the storage a little as possible in this class boggles my mind, when we consider they don't offer a non-hybrid to help the rear storage situation.
Trying to find out if Toyota intends to release a non-hybrid version in future years (maybe 2024) when I need to replace the Expy.
Not likely. Everyone is going full in on hybrids including Toyota.
The sequoia while looking very nice and having a great power train has a rear cargo area that tells me Toyota didn’t spend much time or consideration in its design. They keep trying to spin it as some kind of neat idea and getting UA-camrs to sell that BS. It’s TERRIBLE and they know it. I was looking forward to buying a sequoia because of Toyota reliability and its truck like appearance but after seeing the cargo… sorry Toyota but I’ll be picking up a Tahoe RST in a few days.
Just FYI, ford already has a shelf system, but they lock it in a cargo package. It allows a removable shelf to be moved as a partition Just like the sequoia. Also, each vehicle you looked at has a 34in leftover height to include the sequoia, tou isn't include the lip into the cargo area like you did for the other suvs. I love how the sequoia looks, but the cargo and worsened third row is a no go for me.
The interior design for space in the sequoia is terrible
Nothing beats the Escalade in my book.
We travel with a decent size dog crate and need flat floor or removable seat would have worked. Price too high as well 👎🏻
yeah... I'll still take it over any GMC product. I'd rather have smaller cargo room than being stranded on the road. lol
No you wouldn’t. You’d rather have an suv that’s practical and more efficient if you get the Diesel engine
You can’t force yourself to settle just because you magically think the sequoia with a turbo v6 that’s having issues paired with a hybrid system means more things to go wrong
The GMC Yukon diesel is much more efficient to the point where the GMC Yukon could break much more often and it wouldn’t make a huge difference
do like the solid rear axel and the grille is better looking than the tundra the 3rd row kills it I have no need want or ever will need a 3rd row I need cargo space for my car camper - ovelanding gear
I like the new Sequoia but the 3rd row is an issue for me. Now if you could remove them and just have that small bump I’d be ok. I want to put drawers in the back so having a slight elevation and still able to put small items in the drop down is kind of cool. However losing the extra height from the seats suck. Also the headroom in general is a bit low. They should have given a couple more inches in headroom and a stronger battery case so the 3rd row would be removable. That would have been perfect
@@americandude3825 yup! Since it shares the platform with the series 300 land cruiser I suspect the new size is more like the land cruiser which has always been smaller than the sequoia.
Findlay Toyota of Prescott AZ is doing a 15% markup on the sequoia. $80k for a sr5 and $91k for a pro. That’s right at $100k out the door here in AZ for the pro. Ridiculous!! Toyota straighten out your dealers.
Flat floor is idea one reason not to buy Toyota wish you would have did heights from inside
An obvious design compromise by Toyota to fit the hybrid battery under the third row seat. Nobody prefers a stepped cargo area to a flat one lol
The Sequoia simply has no room, with the third row up, compared to the others. It's even obvious from the exterior profile pics. Looks like someone chopped the back of the vehicle off..... Just looks odd....
Hmm…I wonder how often people really need more space than the Sequoia offers behind the 3rd row? I think perhaps not as much as they think, but the times they do will cause them to loathe buying it over the others. On a separate note, how many like the way it looks more than the others? For me, it looks WAY better and I don’t throw up in my mouth every time I walk up to it in a parking lot. Plus, it seems like most large SUVs design seems to age way too fast. The GMCs look good, but not exciting. The Chevy looks terrible like someone chopped off the front end. The Ford is ok in the front, but so vanilla all around. The Toyota just looks better. All in all, everyone has their own opinion and while the Toyota does it for me and fits my needs, it isn’t for everyone.
It is silly that Toyota did this, is easier said than, you can’t imagine how Toyota messed this trunk up till you start living with it everyday, term slide it into the trunk don’t exist with this trunk since there’s no flat surface it slide nothing on, nah deal breaker!!!!!
I have to transport 200+ dogs in the rear of my SUV, how much weight can that cheap looking piece of whatever it is made of support in the rear of the Sequoia to create a level rear cargo space. The rear cargo area of the Tahoe and GMC Yukon appear cheaply made and I seriously doubt that they could support the weight of my dogs. I would anticipate one dog breaking the rear fold down compartments very quickly, if I put two dogs, 378 lbs back there, a definite no go.
Even Cruella de Vil only had 101 dogs, 200 seems a bit excessive for 1 vehicle.
Gm and Ford are the Best
Nope, the Toyota has lost its game. I do not see how this one will compete with Tahoe, Suburban likes.
Suburban is better in space
Why does every reviewer have to talk about plywood? Literally every reviewer when talking about cargo space in a big suv or a truck talk about loading plywood in this area lol. Like how many people actually carry around plywood?
I know right?xD I’m assuming it’s because of the standard 4x8 size of a plywood sheet. Gives you an overall idea of the cargo capacity. At least its not as annoying as using toilet paper 24 packs like some do like who tf uses that much TP!?
Have you ever tried to strap plywood to the roof of an SUV? If you can get it to fit completely in the back of your SUV, it's far easier. It doesn't have to be plywood, many different products come in 4x8 sheets : drywall, panelling, lattice, mdf, etc.
I really enjoyed your comparison. I am truly disappointed in the new Sequoia's cargo layout. I really don't like how the floor isn't flush when the seats are down. It completely takes away the functionality of the full size SUV. Horrible design decision Toyota. That's a deal breaker for me. I'll just keep my 2015 Sequoia. Hopefully they redesign the cargo space.
3rd row not being flat… deal breaker
Um yes. It is THAT bad. Actually no it’s not
It’s beyond CATASTROPHIC
Every single American rival is just laughing
🇺🇸 I really love the sequoia new look. BUT, TOYOTA THE CARGO AREA SUCKS A$S! Need a Sequoia XXXL! Tired of settling with Toyota. You sell in America... build it huge. I'm a loyalist but stop playing by the rules!
I think I could still fit the dogs in the sequoia with the third row down and the tray and seats levelled. Then it works to haul the family. Otherwise get rid of the hybrid and make it a flat loading floor. Or make it as long as a suburban and then you got the room. Honestly Toyota no one wants to pay that premium price for that suv to barely be the size of a full size suv. It has to be full size suv and then some. The suv is named after the legendary sequoia come
On.
Highly disappointed in Toyota. We were in the market for a full sized SUV with enough capability to trailer our pontoon boat. The cargo area is a cluster-f**k of a design. If you have to try that hard to get a flat cargo area and make it work, then something is obviously wrong. We love Toyota reliability, but this major design flaw is simply a deal breaker. Toyota needs to get rid of the silly battery pack and give us back the V8 (or turbocharge the V6).
Just an awful design all around. I'll take the Tahoe!
👎
Just say it, that Toyota messed up instead of dancing around it and avoiding hurting toyota fans feelings...I mean who the F designed this crap and no AWD... Joke
the Toyota sequioa is ugly as hell and no it cant compete its smaller than the Tahoe and the Expedition and the Toyota only offers 1 engine
