As important a knot to know as the bowline is. It's ability to join rope of different sizes makes it a game changer.

Great videos!!! I've been camping and doing all kinds of survival type stuff since I was 10 (that's 53 years [OMG!!!]) and one thing you need to do on a regular basis is practice your knots. They're easy to forget. So your videos are my practice. Teaching knots to others is a great way to practice, as well!!!

As a Boy Scout leader for many years, I taught many useful knots, including this one, but I regret that I never reached the smooth presentation of this presenter. Now that I no longer use the knots, I still am enjoying learning new Bear Essentials night after night.

This is the best tutorial I have seen on this knot
We used this knot in the late 70s and early 80s for attaching leader to fly line ! Just add a small overhand knot to end of leader to serve as a stopper knot and strike indicator as well ! Plenty strong for bass , trout and panfish and very easy to change leaders !!

Thank you for this great video and the links. I have been using this knot for years with a slight variation. I bend the cut end of the rope on the last step leaving a tail to pull for quick release, try it, it is awesome.

I tie this in the manner I tie a bowline as it's really the same knot just without a loop.
So make a hole for the rabbit to come out of and then have the rabbit go around the tree and then back into the hole.
It's basically this from the other side.
Or if you can't visualize this, the tarp in his example is the rabbit, just flip everything over and tie it bowline style.
If you have a fat rope and a thin one the fat one should be the rabbit.
I find this useful for beginners to learn to tie these two knots the same way.

I looking for a knot that can hold at least 10kg. Can join two items together and will not come apart ever. And looks great.
Why is this better than a reef knot?
It's not better, but just another alternative I think. I'd always go reef knot as was drilled into me in the Navy
Reef is technically not supposed to be used as a bend. By the book, it says you shouldn’t - though I use it all the time on non - life supporting applications
First the reef knot is easy to do wrong, especially under stress.
It's only meant for identical ropes.
It's harder to untie.
It's not as strong.
Technically it's for joining the same line to itself not joining two different lines.
The square knot, the reef knot, was originally for reefing sails, tying the same line to itself usually with a slip release, quick release to easily unreef the sail.

I just tried it with a double wrap and it looks quite good. Still, I would use double fisherman in some climbing situations. Very nice knot for camping, though.
There's a mistake. The two short ends weren't on the same side when the tarp was used.
