This song makes me think of life before COVID. Nostalgia hits so hard, and I'm left thinking about the life I had, the people who lost themselves, and how much I've changed. Everyone has a past, and it's sad to think we can't go back and fix our mistakes. Not only is this song reflecting on a person lost, but it's also helping us remember who we could have been. I don't listen to Harry Styles often, but this is a song that will age well. No matter what generation you are born into, you will always have a chance of losing something or projecting a stereotype onto yourself. We have to forgive our pasts to truly move on, but it's difficult not to think about the way things could have been-aka 'As they were'.

On my last day at college, after I submitted my diploma and got all the necessary documents, I just walked down the halls for the last time, listening to this song. All the memories flew by while I was listening to this song, and a small smile flashed on my face. I looked at my teachers for the last time, accepting credit from freshmen, realizing that I was once the same. The best moment was when I finally talked to the curator and saying goodbye to him he said to me "Goodbye, buddy", it was so fatherly. Then I went outside on a warm, sunny and bright day, stood in front of the college and thought "9 years of school, 3 years of college, 12 years of study... It's over. Goodbye college, goodbye youth". All 3 years, studying there I thought that the end of college would be one of the happiest days, but it turned out to be a day when you are happy, and when you are sad. Thanks to this song, I can relive that moment and go back to my youth. And the moral of the story guys... appreciate your youth. I’m a classical music guy, but I really enjoy this pop song for some reason, i love that main theme and when those chime bells kick in at the end it’s magical
This song was so beautifully written yet so sad, it gives almost a background on everything that's going on in this world and how much it's effected people. For anyone that may be feeling down or ready to give up stand strong, there's always gonna be someone there for you to root you on with anything that may be happening, I hope things get better for you if you happen to be feeling this way♥️
i'm 11 yrs old and this music makes me feel so nostalgic, i remember my grandma who died on jan 13 2022 and it brings back so many memories abt me and her going to nearest fastfood in our place, and she would buy me some dresses from thrift stores, and i didn't notice that at a young age of 9-10 yrs old i would lose my beloved grandma and that line "you know it's not the same as it was" hits so hard, i just realized after listening to this song that i changed so much after loosing my grandma and made me realize that it gave me motivation now i'm at the top 3 of our class. it made me so happy and sad at the same time, but please it's hits hard when you lose your beloved ones, i even wish that i get to spend time with my grandma and cherish her love and warm kisses and hugs i would love to go back time just to see her happy and peaceful but.. atleast i experienced a loving caring grandma in my childhood. i would be pretty proud in the future to tell my kids my experiences with her..
@@thepoopmonster1041 Not me looking at the comments below and seeing what you mean... holy shit you're not wrong with everyone saying the same thing. I just realized. But honestly I was legit just sharing my thoughts. Purely coincidence.
This just gives a sense of nostalgia in a bittersweet way. Like you WANT to experience that time again, but knowing it's not there anymore means that you only have memories and stories to use as a way to keep that little area of your brain alive and well. My childhood was definitely a "It's not the same as it was" moment.
I love this song so much. And also this one Justin Timberlake - Mirrors ua-cam.com/video/4TLa--B8qIc/v-deo.html . It's been 9 years since this song was released. Good music gives good vibes.
Whenever I listen to this song it feels like I’m driving in a car with another person while watching the sunset. Doesn’t matter who that person is to be honest, it’s just me and that person against the whole world.. it’s like we are in our own world! There’s a rush of nostalgia.. as if we are remembering the “good old times”… how things used to be. It’s just a warm yet.. bittersweet feeling. Haha sorry, it’s hard to describe it properly! To anyone who’s reminiscing about the past.. just remember, try to find happiness in the present, rather than believing that life can never be as good as it was, since with that kind of mindset it really won’t be! You only live once, after all!
"your daddy lives by himself" "he just wants to know that you're well" I literally never felt my heart in my throat but these words cut so deep. It's upsetting that I rarely see my dad, but I never thought about it from his perspective. Alone in a house, in a cycle of sleep and labor and every night it's the same. No one there to greet him. No man is happy alone, yet he always tells me the only happiness he needs is knowing me and my sister are okay :( Edit: Thanks for all the empathy ygs are showing in my replies. I love my dad very much, but the reason I don't see him often is because he lives 2 hours away and only has Tuesday's off. Enjoy whomever you have in your life and always remember that you're lucky to have them
I might lose my son soon. I might not. A kind of eternal wait. He has been my whole life. I don't mind losing anything else, but him. I didn't expect to hear a song that reflects in any way what I am feeling, even if it's just a bit.
I also dont see my dad at all i havent seen him since i was 2 yrs old so thats 8 yrs ago but he is also a really bad person so im kinda happy about that
I’m happy to see more people appreciating Harry’s voice and music. It’s been this great since 2014. I saw 1D in Seattle for their take me home tour in July and still remember locking eyes with him and losing my thought. Literally just stopped singing/screaming, he’s a breath taker for sure.

My dad died of cancer two weeks ago exactly. I know this song is about ex's but the main chorus of this song hits so hard. The nostalgic feeling that this song brings hurts so much. It's not the same as it was. It's not the same without you, Dad. My family was told we'd have at least another two weeks after he was discharged from the hospital. He died 2 days after coming home. Cherish the time with your loved ones while you can, everyone.
I feel you...my dad died at home with us from cancer a while back...at least he was at home with family. Stay strong....he is with you...when you need him talk to him...sounds silly, but it helps.
My ex was flirting with other guys but I don't take this song as a break up song it hits me hard because I have a lot of memories with her and my kids and I know they will grow up with us been separated but they will have those bitter sweet memories when we where all a happy family. She has her family now and I have my future wife and daughter on the way, me and her still talk and understand we weren't meant to be and I don't long for those days because we're both much happy now but a song has whatever meaning you give it honestly. Sorry for the long post
I used to listen to this song every time I studied for school. Now it's the very last day of school for me. Thanks Harry for reminding me all these amazing years I experienced!

This is my ALL TIME favorite song! BEST song ever!! Discovered the song back in mid September of last year, when I kept hearing it on the radio at work, and I cannot stop listening to it. Chances say that 5 years from now, this will *still* be my favorite song! One of the reasons one of my favorite phrases is now, "You know it's not the same as it was". Every time I listen to this, it brings back some good memories I've had with friends in the past, whilst keeping in mind that things are not the same as it was ;3 I feel like I've listened to this at least a thousand times already. I mean, how can anyone NOT like this song?!
I think what everybody likes this song is because Back then it used to be a simpler time and everybody was nicer and more helpful add more smart cus that song has helped me through my anxiety and depression and stress these times
@@zemineriver8043 I’ve heard that song before, actually. “Take On Me” is a great song too. I just don’t listen to it as often as this song. I saw that someone made a mashup of the two songs, “Take On Me” and “As It Was”, which was pretty damn cool too!
This is one of those songs you wanna be hearing when you look over and see your dog with his head out the window, as the sun is setting in front of the road ❤
every time i listen to this song, i remember crying to it thinking about the times i had with my best friends before we all got separated. i was living my best life with them and others, and i had no control over someone else deciding to change that. this was my comfort song. still hits close to home.
I had the best group, until someone lied and used us,I exposed her and she left the group, one is inactive so we didnt include her,its just 2 people, me and my bestfriend.
Yeah. This song feels very real life. Things happen with or without our input that changes everything. The hard part is to stop focusing on event or person who changed your circumstances and instead focus on how you are going to move forward beneficially. I spent the last 14 yrs mourning my sister. It wasn't until this yr I realized I had cried my way through the end of my 30s & all my 40s. Such a shame. Time to live now. This song really hits home to me with its sadness, yet hope in its jaunty tune. Blessings to you.
Someone has a video of "As It Was" on a 1 hour loop. That's usually my go-to when I need to listen to the song more than just once. This song means a whole lot to me, and I get so excited whenever I hear it on the radio. BEST song ever! This will forever be at the very top of my list of most favorite songs of all time.
This is the first *Harry Styles* song I listened to. Instant addiction. Plus the similarity to A-ha's Take on Me, it's just special. The lyrics are also very relatable. Us trying to get back to the way it was before, but things aren't just the same. Hats off to Harry for this song. 💯
I don’t usually listen to Harry but this right here in on constant repeat, Thanks Harry I’m loving it cause it sure hits different and nothing’s the same anymore
This song 😭 Only words to describe how I'm feeling right now is Greatness and full of memories of my past endeavours. This song speaks for so many people, no matter where you are in the world or what your going through in life always remember that life is tough, unfair at times but always remind yourself we are not alone enduring it. cherish every second with the ones you love, give them memories to keep forever not scars. Always have hope and never give up on yourself. Darkness is only a temporary state in our cold world and always subsides when light shines over it's presence. Filling us with warmth, bringing out life and joy from all corners of the world 🌎🌎 Meeting new people, experiencing new things and most importantly enjoying the most amazing feeling of being alive with the ones you love the most. Stay happy and be a great human being to others around you and when in doubt just play this song on repeat with max volume up until you can't hear anymore. Drown out the negativity and cultivate it into positivity.

"Daily Log 1756: Today marks my forced departure from the Jedi Order, no, it wasn't because of exile caused by criminal activities or siding with the Sith, which I would never do since they're kind of racist assholes. I, Padawan Lenard Fitzgerald, have been told via hyperwave transmission by my late master to get as far away from the galactic core as possible, before he was unceremoniously gunned down by clones he and I once commanded. I am en route to the outer rim to hopefully lay low and figure out what to do from there. My gunship should give me a good start given it's agility and way oversized armament. (sigh) Aaaaaagh, by the force what am I kidding! I've lost my home, my friends, and my teacher, while I still have little combat experience no less! What am I supposed to do now?! (sigh) End Log."

I’m a classical music guy, but I really enjoy this pop song for some reason, i love that main theme and when those chime bells kick in at the end it’s magical
I'm not really a Harry Styles fan but this song is stuck in my head and it calms me down
In this world, It's just us.. You know it's not the as it was..
Nice is so calm❤
This song was so beautifully written yet so sad, it gives almost a background on everything that's going on in this world and how much it's effected people. For anyone that may be feeling down or ready to give up stand strong, there's always gonna be someone there for you to root you on with anything that may be happening, I hope things get better for you if you happen to be feeling this way♥️

i'm 11 yrs old and this music makes me feel so nostalgic, i remember my grandma who died on jan 13 2022 and it brings back so many memories abt me and her going to nearest fastfood in our place, and she would buy me some dresses from thrift stores, and i didn't notice that at a young age of 9-10 yrs old i would lose my beloved grandma and that line "you know it's not the same as it was" hits so hard, i just realized after listening to this song that i changed so much after loosing my grandma and made me realize that it gave me motivation now i'm at the top 3 of our class. it made me so happy and sad at the same time, but please it's hits hard when you lose your beloved ones, i even wish that i get to spend time with my grandma and cherish her love and warm kisses and hugs i would love to go back time just to see her happy and peaceful but.. atleast i experienced a loving caring grandma in my childhood. i would be pretty proud in the future to tell my kids my experiences with her..
your not the only one i'm 13 and this song hits so much and also I'm sorry for your loss I'm pretty sure she was a good grandma
This song is fire, but R.I.P your grandma.
May she rest in peace

This just gives a sense of nostalgia in a bittersweet way. Like you WANT to experience that time again, but knowing it's not there anymore means that you only have memories and stories to use as a way to keep that little area of your brain alive and well. My childhood was definitely a "It's not the same as it was" moment.

Oh dear god, if this feels nostalgic of 20 years ago, how do you think your parents and I feel because the style is 80s🙂
Whenever I listen to this song it feels like I’m driving in a car with another person while watching the
sunset.

"your daddy lives by himself"
"he just wants to know that you're well"
I literally never felt my heart in my throat but these words cut so deep. It's upsetting that I rarely see my dad, but I never thought about it from his perspective. Alone in a house, in a cycle of sleep and labor and every night it's the same. No one there to greet him. No man is happy alone, yet he always tells me the only happiness he needs is knowing me and my sister are okay :(
Edit: Thanks for all the empathy ygs are showing in my replies.

The hard part is to stop focusing on event or person who changed your circumstances and instead focus on how you are going to move forward beneficially. I spent the last 14 yrs mourning my sister.
