- Ellen is a big fan of his performance in "The Wolf of Wall Street," and the handsome Leonard DiCaprio was here to tell her about the film and his good friend and co-star, Jonah Hill.
Leo is nominated for a Golden Globe as Best Actor (Musical or Comedy) for his performance in "The Wolf of Wall Street" and is also getting Oscar buzz. He described his favorite scene of the film to Ellen, calling it the "most wild thing" he's ever done in his life.
"It all resulted in this insane sequence in the end where Jonah decides to stuff ham into his mouth as well, and crashes into a plate glass table... and we were doing this CPR sequence, and you know the big challenge that day -- we had to do 70 takes because they couldn't get this ham to stick on my face and they had to put K-Y Jelly, and there's literally a guy there behind this giant window with a plastic spoon just flicking ham on my face all day long as I'm doing this insane sequence! But it was almost... it was one of the most surreal things I've ever done in my entire career."

i seriously feel like the academy has decided to fuck with Leonardo Dicaprio. I mean, he has done some of the most amazing movies within his time and he has been nominated too many times, but every year, it gets sad watching him get rejected... :( definitely deserves better.

You do not know what you're talking about in terms of film. In my opinion, he is a fantastic actor, but one whom should not have received an Oscar for any of his films.
Take a look at the years DiCaprio could've won. His best shot at receiving an Oscar was probably for Wolf of Wall Street or Django Unchained. The year he was nominated for Wolf was the same year that both Matthew Mcconaughey for Dallas Buyers Club and Chiwetel Ejiofor for Twelve Years a Slave was nominated. Mcconaughey won, rightly so, but second would have easily been Ejiofor because he was outstanding; not to mention Christian Bale for his stunning performance in American Hustle as well. He was very close to winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for Django Unchained and an argument could definitely be made for that. However, Christoph Waltz killed it in that film and he won the Oscar which was the right decision. DiCaprio has simply been unlucky each year as he's put up against phenomenal actors.

I'd like to think so because I think he's a brilliant actor, but, sadly, I don't think that's entirely true. Think about it, his best chance of winning an Oscar was probably last year for the Wolf of Wall Street. Don't get me wrong, he's great in that film, but you also have to contemplate the fact that people like Matthew Mcconaughey and Chiwetel Ejiofor were nominated as well for the Oscar. Mcconaughey was the deserved winner of that year; he was exceptional in Dallas Buyers Club, like truly outstanding. The same applies to Ejiofor to Twelve Years a Slave. He gave, in my opinion, the second best performance of the year. You also have Christian Bale with his incredible performance in American Hustle. So, really, Dicaprio was up against stiff competition and, in the end, he was unlucky to be put up against such great actors. Ultimately, however, he didn't deserve to win the Oscar that year.

Chiwetel deserved it, McCaughney deserved it...it was stiff competition. I agree it could have gone to Leo just as easy as it did to Matt but a Movie about Aids will always beat out a Comedic biopic.
With all the great movies, a ton of people deserved the oscar. Like Merpy Merps said, Chiwetel and McConaughey both also deserved it, along with Leo. However, while in my opinion I think Wolf of Wall Street is Leonardo Dicaprio's best role, McConaughey's best role in my opinion was also Dallas Buyer's Club and I never really heard of Chiwetel until 12 Years a Slave, which actually made me cry, and that's a major achievement for movies. Dude brah i like nvr cry im so manly but really, jokes aside, I think all three actors should've won the oscar. They were all amazing, along with those movies.

What a performance in Wolf of Wall Street. If you're someone who recognizes great acting then seeing his and Jonahs performances in that movie will literally make you just stare at the screen in amazement. It really is somethin else and although it may be long, It just keeps getting better as it nears the end.

There are many actors like Leo who don't have an oscar (ie: Gary fucking Oldman!) but oscars don't mean shit. Do you really think oscars reward only performance? Nope. It's all politricks and it goes to people like Jen Lawrence (talented but immensely popular, she really didn't deserve that golden globe win this year it was Lupita's), Gwyneth Paltrow?! And the fact American Hustle is winning all the awards is ridiculous. It wasn't a brilliant movie, it just had an amazing cast. A wannabe Goodfellas. Marty's "Wolf of Wall St" is by far the most entertaining movie of the year, Prisoners/Rush also equally wonderful. Now the Jen Lawrence fanbase is going to destroy me.. *prepares for burial*

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Leo fan but Oscar isn't entirely politics. If you're a real critic, you'd know how brilliant JLaw's performance was in SLP and American Hustle.
I think TYAS is gonna win this year because is the "easy" choice and the academy is kind of predictable, I personally would like to see Gravity wining 'cause I think it's a great movie but I hardly think it's gonna happen. On the other side I kind of agree with you on the oscars thing but I really believe Leo deserves one, lets hope this may be his year.
