    Hey Mr Pete I hope you’re not getting sleepy looking at all of that dirt because it’s not time for your nap yet thanks for bringing us out to the farm

    Thanks for the trip to the farm Mr Pete, but my back is aching already, just watching.
    Liked the old Farmall that looked like it was unrestored, but still kept on going smooth and steady, we had 3 of those still working 18 years ago.
    Cheers from Down Under, hope you are recovering well.

    Thanks! That was fun!! Reminiscent of growing up on the farm with some of those tractors and plows. I remember as a teenager plowing all day, being bored stiff listening to the 2 cylinder JD popping away. We didn't even have a radio, not that you could hear it.

    Remember doing many hours of this. Nothing like the air conditioned plush seats that my brother uses on his new tractors.

    It's amazing to see how far technology has come. Manufacturers of farm equipment are currently pushing electric tractors and combines but the farmers absolutely do not want them. I can't say I blame them. I predict the manufacturers won't sell many, if any, electric tractors and will likely lose their shirts after wasting so much money on research and development. Bottom line is, a farmer has to keep the machines working until the work is done. Refilling a fuel tank takes far less time than charging a battery. Until that changes there's no reason for farmers to replace diesel engines with electric motors. The only way I see electric working is if we copy the technology found in diesel locomotives. Use a "small" diesel engine to run a generator that charges batteries and powers an electric motor which does the work. Batteries alone just won't cut it.
    Thanks for the interesting video Mr. Pete.

      @jacobpoucher Рік тому +3

      Sure charging time isn't there yet. But it will be don't you worry. Electric vehicles of anykind is more about government control then anything. No electricity no food, in this case.

    • @stevestrohacker8436
      @stevestrohacker8436 Рік тому

      Electric is nothing new, and like those who tried in the past, I'm confident that electric will NEVER be the norm. Uncle aho can only push us around so long before we push back. After all, they work for US, not us working for them!
      Baker was using electric in the late 1800's for the city slickers and skirts to run around in. Fuel cells have been tried as well. AC tried the fuel cell in the late 50's IIRC. Even as far back as 1936 IHC played around with a remote control O-12. When it gets to the point electric is standard on tractors I better be DEAD!

    One of my earliest childhood memories as it relates to farming was riding in the car past fields that had been freshly plowed in the spring. The soil was jet black here in Northern Iowa and almost had a sheen to it from the plow turning it over. Now there is more no till so we are not able to see the soil in all its natural beauty. Thank you for sharing this video Mr. Pete, take care of yourself.

    Many hours of my youth sitting on the pan seat of a Farmall tricycle doing that same thing. The noon day sun beating down and the heat of the engine blowing in your face. The smell of the freshly turned soil. Sinking the right drive tire in a damn groundhog hole and almost tossing you off the tractor. Good times. Thank you.

    I'm not sure how close this would be for you but there's a small event in Richfield, WI called The Thresheree and there's a bunch of antique steam engines and tractors and WW2 stuff. It's also located on an old mill property. You can go through tours of some of the buildings. It might be something you'd be interested in going to. This year it's sept 16-17.

    watching the really old tractors and implements I realized this; rubber tires didn't come along because of some Government mandates or, subsidies NO, the rubber tires are better AND everyone switched over ... unlike electric cars, solar and wind power which are being shoved up onto us not because it's better but, because the government mandates it!

    Reminds me of the days dad bought his 80 acres and started tilling ground with a couple G John Deere’s. This was around the time he got me a model A for a birthday present it needed an overhaul which got done around Christmas that year.
    During the week dad would pull a set of 3 16’s behind one of his G’s. By time I could get up there on visitation weekends the plowing was already done so I mainly pulled a disc for fun with the other G pulling a 13ft international disc my A could pull but not as good as the G.
    These days I got few plows and a 10ft disc for my model A on my lil plot of land to play with. Few plows I picked up at auctions, best one I picked up hydraulic lift 3 14’s. Seems to plow better when I had the A in 3rd gear vs 2nd. Figure the more I get out and plow the better I’ll become and have fun too

    This video is givving me ideas. I bought a single moldboard plow to pull behind my Cub Cadet, but I may just mount it on my IH 656 instead. It may be overkill, but it would definetly do the job.

    Looks like you used your cell camera (shadow), VERY good quality video, really! Some of those tractors are really struggling to keep up, almost amusing, but the ground looks to be very challenging. The corn is brown...is that left over from last year? Thanks for the zen video, very soothing to hear all the vintage purring.

    This the show that after you got sick? Thank you for posting the footage! PS...I understand now that modern farming doesn't want to plow, but instead flatten spent crops to turn to natural fertilizer and allow microorganisms to flourish in the soil, and stop erosion/wash outs.

    😊😊 this the way people use 2 plow the fields and the ground years ago now 2 day U dont no more on farms either I see the ground is dry and tractors could use some wheel weights 4 back wheels some of the tractors are a bit light and need some weight so the back tires can bite and pull better than what they do 😊😊 OMG 6 22 2O24

    Mike needed to put some car/truck cylinder heads on each of the sections on that disc to give it a little more weight. 🙂
    Mom did a lot of the plowing growing up and then later on as well. I did a lot of the discing when I was there to help. Closer to that sized equipment than the size we see around here now.
