I can definitely relate with the need for a change in narrator perspective. I started out my first novel with the challenge of making it all first person, multi-pov, which proved to be a poor fit as the book progressed. As soon as I changed it over to third-omniscient, everything came out smoother. I guess the moral of the story would be to know where to challenge yourself. I love the video!!
First person multi-pov doesn't really work in my opinion because, unless you're incredibly talented, all the character come across as the same. Third person limited is an option with each character either having a chapter of their own, or line breaks inbetween, but well done for using third person omniscient. It is, again in my opinion, the easiest option. I used three different first person characters to write this comment, did you notice the difference? They're all lying, I'm the one that wrote it.
I’m still struggling a bit with narrative perspective, (if mine is first POV, or 3rd POV..XD), and about switching tenses, I’m also in the same boat.., but I’m trying to get it better 🙏🏼
Oh boy, some of these are definitely relatable. My story had 13 main characters back when I first started writing it, and I didn't have much planned out. I just wrote and hoped for the best, although I did eventually start outlining and planning the more I got into it. And don't even get me started on choosing a point-of-view, lol. I wrote down nearly everyone's thoughts in the beginning. Then I brought the thoughts down to one group (five young men). Finally, I settled on two men from that group that felt like the major main characters of the entire story while the others became various background characters that moved the story along. Of course, it's still a modified first draft, so I'm going to look over it again one day and make the necessary changes. (I finished it last December and I've barely looked at it since, but I think that's a good thing.)
I read a novel quite recently that was second-person pov. I'd never read it before, and it felt weird, lol. It was still good, but I prefer first or third limited. I started writing my current novel using first, but eventually realized it works better in third limited.
