A little addition from my side, as I'm working with those drives on a daily basis: the current of the CMMT-ST is indeed 8A (max. 10A peak), but the motor you have there can only take up to 1.8A and this (plus 1A for logic, which actually is around 200 mA) is what you take for calculating the maximum current you need. So in this case you actually need 2.8A max current power supply. Also, you don't have to download the plugin from Support Portal, you just need the base Automation Suite program. Plugins can be downloaded from there directly, as there's a repositories tab with all of them. The thing you showed and told they're preinstalled, while they were not. They were just "Available", which means they could bedownloaded and installed. And the last thing, you don't have to store every time you make a change. The software is synchronising all the settings with the drive when you're online. The "Store" function is needed only when you want to save your settings for good. If you mess something up and want to reverse all the recent changes, you just restart the drive.

Hi, thank you very much for the tutorial. Very useful. I would like to ask you a question, how did you know that by connecting pins 1, 2 and 3 of the X1A to 24V it is possible to bypass the software safety requirements? I am speaking about minute 8:16. I searched for the information on the Manual Assembly and found nothing. Thank you in advance.

Hi Alicia, that's a good question. In general, safety circuits are looking for 24VDC on the input side. Since the drive has a 24VDC output, I figured that I would bypass the safety of the circuit by running that same signal into both safety inputs. In a real system, you'd run the two signals through a safety relay that would energize when the system is safe and let the signals through. They wouldn't mention this in the manual, but there are drawings of how to wire in safety; I essentially just removed the safety relay.

We plan on releasing the video on controlling from an AB compactlogix next. You need to go through these steps before we get to control.

There's an application note on the Festo Support Portal (expert knowledge tab) that shows exactly how to do it.
