Hey friends! Another fun one for you! Apologies for the backdrop, I am in the midst of making over my lounge (you can see the drama that is my day to day life in this latest video on my vlog channel ua-cam.com/video/-KEus7AsYUg/v-deo.html. If you would like to support the channel please consider purchasing me a kofi as this helps me to keep the channel going www.ko-fi.com/penguinandpear I appreciate you! 💘 Thank you for watching! ❤❤❤
I think you have come up with some fantastic suggestions in your video. May I suggest that rather than buying a specific fabric, especially for beginners, you gift that lucky person a voucher to go and select fabric or other notions from a high-end, swanky shop where they can let their imagination 💭 run wild. ❤❤❤
This is a genius video! Covering all the price points is such a good idea. These will also help non sewers have useful information to choose from for the sewer in their life. As always you deliver the goods Claire! Thank you xx
Oh, Claire! Your holiday sweater is festive and fun, and you look fabulous in it! This video is an early Christmas gift to all of us. I appreciate the many hours and effort it took to research, edit, and produce this very helpful and thoughtful video. Your holiday carol at the end was the BEST! Dear Santa. Our sweet Claire has uploaded an amazing video featuring gifts for sewists. Please take a gander at it . . . give it a like, subscribe, and share it with all the elves. I would love any one of the items mentioned. I have been good this year . . . well, maybe a tad bit naughty as well . . . but mostly good. Thank you, Santa. Merry Christmas and bye for now.
i made a hem measuring tool out of index cards…thought i was so clever…then i discovered you can buy them! 😂😂 mine arrived two days ago…ANYTHING that makes it easier to complete a project is worth considering…even if it seems expensive…usually it’s a one time purchase… you go through life ONCE, treat yourself, you DESERVE it!
I came back to sewing 3 years ago and have loads of tools but would still like all of your suggestions as a gift!! You certainly get what you pay for in both fabric and tools. Great vlog. Thank you.
So many great ideas and I’ve already have some of them in my supply chest. One of my all time favorite gifts is my Gingher shears- they were a limited edition with fancy floral on white on the handles. Had them for years and still work like brand new. On another note, your hair looks really cute and your sweater makes me smile. 🧑🎄
I had a sewing teacher at college who recommended Ginghers. 40 years ago.. I still have them. I had them sharpened once because they were dropped. They are an awesome pair of go to scissors, but they are a little heavier than most. . I also have (we have to have more than one pair of scissors) some that I got as a recommendation from a UA-camr and they are from a brand called Kai. They are not heavy and they are super sharp-maybe scary sharp-which I adore. I probably use them the most. They are a little easier on my hands than the Ginghers. Both of them have traveled with me all across the USA and the Atlantic ocean and the Arabian desert so they are very recommendable.
I find my ginghers super light (when compared with my pro shears) but never really loved them as they were pretty stiff (need oiling). For what they cost they were okay but glad I have my pro shears.
I waited until I was almost 60 to invest in decent shears. (How dumb was that?!?) With some arthritis setting in, I ordered Kai 9-1/2" dressmakers shears as a "Merry Christmas to me" and two weeks later my sister gifted me a pair of Ginghers. I find both incredibly sharp and my arthritic hands appreciate being able to switch from one to the other as they put stress on different muscles and parts of my hands when in use. I do prefer the Kai ($25 U.S.), but being able to switch is a wonderful luxury I'd bet have thought of. Kai does make professional shears. They are around $75, a very reasonable luxury splurge. (Kai manufacturing owns Shun - those REALLY pricey/highly sought kitchen knives. Kai understands sharp tools!)
Hi Claire! The jumper really suits you! I really enjoyed listening to you again. Am on a car park waiting for my daughter and really appreciating the wait 😂 About 10 years back I bought the Lidl ironing press and it’s still going strong. It must’ve cost 60-80€. I know it’s not the same quality but for fabrics and 5 shirts a week for my husbands use it really does the job.
These were really good. I would add a wooden tailors clapper or a tailors point presser to the list. Or both. The clappers start around $10 and the point presser and/or tailors board around $70, they go up from there depending on the wood used etc. Another cool thing is a holder for your tailors ham.
one of the best gifts ever was a book titled: Sewing Machine Reference Tool: Troubleshooting Guide to Loving Your Sewing Machine, Again. By Bernie Tobish. It gave me confidence. Figuring out problems was half of the repair. You are a touch of sunshine in our lives. Thank you.
Loving these gift ideas. I may have to email this to my family as a big hint for my birthday :) Been looking for some recommendations for some snips and other bits and bobs so this is perfect-thank you . Your jumper looks lovely too by the way.
I wanted that bias tape maker as soon as I saw it on Instagram. Until I went to the website and saw the price.... You have some great ideas. Ps. I like the shorter hair.
Another super video Claire. I have the Tula seam ripper and get a bit scared of it at times its so sharp! Also I thought the mug was too be used to put sewing tools in! !😅😂
Fantastic video. Definitely a fantastic book! Love her first one, I have this one on order for me. Checking it out for a granddaughter who might be 5 foot and is not an hour glass figure. I want to make sure this would be good for her. Another lady that does not design for Twiggy is Mimi G. Her book is also very good.
I bought some of those Magic Pins, although I have the really thin ones and they are only short length as I was sewing something fine and wanted to replace my old lingerie and lace pins which I could not pick up. I will be ordering some more in a thicker gauge and longer as they are very easy to pick up ( I have slightly shaky hands).
i think i’m going to start taking pictures of gifts, i can’t remember what i’ve made year to year, i do have a notebook to record the details, but i have another notebook to take notes while watching sewing videos…i note the title and who’s channel….it’s really helpful to use the information…and i’m able to watch it again if needed.
I love all of these items! That mug is so 😍 w the handle being a measuring tape! But I already have so many mugs! I'd have to break a few to make room for a new one 😉
The small snips would not work for me or my mom. Arthritis does a number on fingers and knuckles, we have to have large finger holes. I bought some kid scissors that have large finger holes, they work great. I love my blue flexible ruler, use it a lot. I bought one of those Clover mini irons, neet for a quick press at the sewing machine, I made a 12in square pad so I could have it right there by me. I have too many sewing machines lol. 14 machines and 2 sergers, both of the sergers were bought new. All of my machines were second hand, mom gave me hers when she upgraded and the rest I picked up at thrift shops or the side of the road or Etsy and EBay. I’m thinking about getting one of those my size dress dummies you sew yourself, just have to save money for the custom fit pattern. I have one of those expandable ones, don’t like it much. I have my grandma’s dressmaking shears and her pinking shears, both heavy and I treasure them and keep them in ship shape 😊 Books are awesome ❤ I have so many lol
That would be lovely however I don’t give my address out. If you would like to a kofi is always welcome unless you know of another way? I appreciate the thought ❤️

I didn’t know high-end, swanky sewing shops existed! Where do you live? Near me I hope!

I've been sewing for 57 years on and off and I would love to receive any of those gifts, especially the Cashmerette Sewing the Curve book!
I want ALL the things! I might buy some of those lovely snips for friends who aren't hugely into sewing, simply because they're so pretty.
All good ideas any sewist would enjoy.

Sawing the curve look interesting
I was giving a Bernina for 20 years I still use it I love it and would recommend the Bernina machines
More extremely valuable content for us beginners!! Thank you so much x
Thank you So Much, Claire! And may I say "You Look AMAZING"!
Thank you, amazing what good quality foundation can do lol

That’s so sweet ❤
I think this was a very good list! I love your hair!
Thank you for these brilliant ideas ❤. (you look great today!)
The posh snips as my daughter is wanting to learn to sew.
A great video--now if I just had someone to show it to LOL! Love the glasses and shorter hair.
Great gift guide, thanks Claire!

love my mini iron, i’ve set my pressing location to the right of my machine, it’s so helpful while going through a project.
Such a useful Vlog Claire, I've added something from every price point to my wish list 😂😊
Loving your jumper sis! ❤

Really great video. It gave me ideas for the future...sewing me.
Happy to help
Wonderful gift ideas . I padded out my dress form. I’m in process of saving up for the pants form from bootstrap. I despise fitting pants on myself.
That sounds like a good investment

Great idea for gifts- my sewing mentor has everything she needs. This list includes some she might not know about.

Claire, can you tell me what pattern you used for your gauze peasant top (white background floral print)? I just love it. Thanks!
It’s shared in the video where I made it a couple of months ago. I forgot the name off hand.
Nice video!
I hope Father Christmas brings me something off your list Claire - I promise I've been (mostly) good this year! 🤶😂🤣🎅
