They are clearly putting more effort into their big patches and don't have that much time to work on the small ones. They literally said that a small patch balooned into a expedition. This patch has one job. To give you something to do while you wait for the next Big patch. I enjoyed the the tasks they gave. The problem is, people want to Speedrun through content and then complain how they get through it in five hours. They gave us 2 months to explore this weird old version of NMS to explore. No need to rush it.
Well you generally want to speedrun through boring content and get a thing you want (new Ship, ultimately). Why boring? Because expedition is the same as 12 expeditions before it.
Bring this, bring that, fix ship. Bring this bring that, rendezvous point

Same as before. If you played this game for 80 hours - i'd say you've seen it all. No new mechanics emerging, no new interactions.
I'm not just yapping for the sake of it. Where, let's say...the ability to exit ship in space? Or ability to walk in your larger starships like hauler or explorer? Some new screens? New spaceship weapons? Orbital cannons for your large ship? New functions for multitool? Easier planetary navigation with some kind of hologram inside your ship's cockpit?
I wish to pay for this.
I mean it's great we are getting new stuff for free, but as a veteran player I can assure you - it's all cosmetics. Nothing really valuable.
Just finished my 1st run in about 5:30 hours of playtime and i really enjoyed it. Yes, the tasks are pretty familiar to previous expeditions and you have to do a lot of walking around, searching, grinding, crafting and some fighting. Does this slow you down ? Well yes, because that's the f*cking point of the game and especially this expedition. The game is an experience you shouldn't simply run through, but just let yourself go. And you can even go for a second time and do it totally differently, once you know what you really need. But again, don't rush, take your time and be happy for every milestone you get.
Would i love some new and fresh experiences and tasks to complete in an expedition ? Yes, of course i do. But at this point i don't expect NMS to get new core game mechanic additions. I am just happy for anything Hello Games will give us, because that will end someday, eventually.

Very well said. They start you with base nothing for a reason, the entire feel of the expedition. Inability to glitch or cheese, barely enough oxygen to explore, sense of foreboding and being alone. Nailed it. Most of ‘dilution’ tales about I completed before due, because I was playing the game as intended & not speed running 10:00 to the next quest. Walk so far, scan things, because I needed the credits. Killed hazardous flora because I was short on oxygen, etc. This is why I start every expedition with a new character. To enjoy it as a character play through experience and not speed run to rape it for new content.
@@wilveno3185 So far I've done all of the Expeditions. At least 4 times each and at least one around 14 times. I do the same as you with starting each Expedition with a new character. I'm the opposite of a speed run. I've got around 12 hours in each of the 2 times I've done it so far. The second time I had pretty much no oxygen plants anywhere close to me. I pretty much only had the rocks. I did dig down to a cave and find a few hazardous plants to hep me. I have to make my first jump to get a sentinel ship since we've had them.

Perhaps input some of your own ideas, so we know how you wouldn't 'cheapen' or 'dilute' the experience...? That would've helped

The reason Hello Games keeps leaving in the early game tutorial- style "time wasters" into the Expeditions is that NEW players buy the game on sale and jump into the Expeditions. Enjoy the new stories. Personally, I love exploring and gathering so I am in heaven. I'm afraid you may be getting too cynical for me, professor.

I mean cool we are gettin it for free but I'll be more than happy to PAY for more valuable and big update. Not for another cosmetics, but for new features.
I went to the anomoly and it was completey dead and empty, with absolutely nothing happening, less than usual actually. It was incredible.

He plays because he loves the game. He also complains because he loves the game and wants a better life for it. He's right allot of rinse and repeat from past expeditions. Mixed in with some brand new quests. Great honest review. Of his opinion. I guess you missed that part.

@@Happy-Wiggleworm I've done the current Expedition on Steam and Xbox. It's not the best Expedition or the worst. I still plan on doing it at least 2 more times. Maybe more. So far I've got all of the twitch and Expedition rewards. After the Expedition I don't see the game as better or worse basically just the same.

I think you may have missed the point of this one in your excitement to finish all the tasks as quickly as possible, as I understand it it's supposed to be more of a strugglebus run.
I don't play NMS much anymore. I enjoy the expeditions. Yes, they contain a lot of time wasting activities but overall I like the structure. Expeditions let me jump back into the game for a week or two.
The start & such aren't as much for active players but new and returnees. I have thousands of hours in but haven't played the game in a year. I came back to try out this new "adventure" and there are problems you don't even notice nor mention because you don't see them.
Example:
To fix your starting ship, you need Deuterium. The only recipe for that "long ago" was Di-Hydrogen and Tritium. They added a recipe that uses Silicate Powder vs Tritium but you won't know that unless you look it up. You see even the in-game catalog tells you you need Tritium and Di-Hydrogen, it doesn't mention Silicate Powder as an option and you cannot normally get Tritium on a planet vs asteroid mining.
Example 2: Mining the rocks, again, they made changes to what drops while mining but, again, you don't see that nor mention that at all, just comment on "same thing".
I've been playing NMS for over 4 years and the first thing I thought when I saw deuterium was how are we going to get the tritium. Then I checked out the wiki page and it showed using Silicate Powder. Maybe they did add that recently because I don't remember being able to use it before.
@@flash1259 It was added and there is, in-game, a way to get to the formulas too.
Most of the stuff that was hard to find, they made alternative recipes for but you have to go to a website to find the info on the newer alternative recipes. (ex: You can make: Paraffinium, Salt, Chlorine, Phosphorus, Platinum, Uranium, etc.)

They changed a few elements to make it varied a bit but at the end of the day we are still running around doing achievements we have always done in Expeditions. They do not make a story line expedition that is in play with the rewards, they give us stuff but make us do the same things again and again to get them. There is 0 effort when it comes to the actual substance of the expedition, it is just throwing into the mix repetitive achievements.
I've been completing most of all the gathering, walking, getting stuff and so on from the very first system. I spent alot of time on the first planet. Part of this in my mind is primarily devoted to exploration. That is essentially what an expedition is. If they didn't give you something to fetch or get or scan then what are you going to do?
It's part complain, but not offer any suggestion on what they could do. Just complain. You've modded everything up to avoid the mundane things because you view them as a hindrance rather than a function of what space is. I've been enjoying it so far but I am not using any mods or trying to do things to lessen the experience. I mean everyone here should play the game the way they want to.
Maybe one day HG will allow us to create user made expeditions via the annomaly uploaded like in the form of a memory fragment or something. How would you get players to go from point A to B to complete it without doing mundane things in between? I know you're creative as you were one of the leaders in the Light No Sky series.
I started this expedition as a new save, no pass thru stuff nothing because I wanted the experience of being adrift with no help, no cheats and so on. This isn't to suggest I have never cheated the game like duping and such. But those saves I use for different purposes and play the game differently. This comment is just to counter balance and offer perspective. NMS is a game meant to be played. How you play it is up to you.

I don’t think it’s a catastrophe. It’s a filler expedition. It’s meh. They’re obviously more focused on Light No Fire and No Man’s Sky feels like a lesser priority because it is. And that’s okay.
I would like to see some arena style combat. maybe at pirate stations. that would be awesome!
As someone who literally played the whole Expedition, i really enjoyed it, it was a great experience in my opinion.
I agree with everything in this video. Some objectives felt out of pocket, the 2 biggest Milestones that put me off was Mine 3 Radiant Shards & Find a Sunken Freighter. These 2 were so off track that it doesn’t even feel like it should be in the expedition
The 3 Radiant Shards fit right in for me. Since we've been able to get them my first warp on a new save is to a dissonant system and get a sentinel ship. It also lets me get a better multitool. Normally I go to a pirate system and get repair kits to repair it. Didn't work this time.

A bit harsh... i got a tingle at one point and they have shut down sneaky advantages... Am still playing it and I think this one I might do twice.. dont forget this is generalised for all players both new and old adventure, difficult path to follow... These are what keeps us keen and excited after so long... I wish there were more.. maybe quarterly...

I'm always seeing fans of No Man's Sky theorizing about the void mother and all this stuff, it sounds like they are playing another game entirely. I see the things they are using as reasons, but i never see Hello Games do anything with it. This expedition could have been the perfect opportunity to have more lore added. All the traveler graves could have gave you more lore, but the only one in the expedition didn't even say anything and in my screenshot i took didn't look like it did in the trailer. I didn't see any of those cool starship wreck decorations around like in the trailer, so i guess its only a prize you use on your own bases. I was half expecting a graveyard planet for ships, wanted some place i could put a base computer i would want to come back to after the expedition ends. The only thing different besides the emptiness of this expedition is the frigate with that storm around it, is nice prize to have that around a freighter to enjoy when your on top of your freighter base looking around. I just was hoping could actually land on it like the other frigates, could have put a gek hologram on the deck that tells you sad stories of how are having to endlessly travel the cosmos, was a missed opportunity. I like where they were going with this, it just fell flat, I i wanted to drag this one out to really enjoy it, but by the time i got past phase 3 I just speed through the rest so i could get the Iron Vulture ship, because i was already tired of the expedition. On the positive side when i had to go through the mission on the derelict freighter it at least was one with the rogue drones and not the hive ones that are way to common to see.

Thanks for warning me. Like the reset and the center of the galaxy gotta prepare to minimize loss and damage. Was completely unprepared when doing the reset. Lost a lot of resources and took a lot of damage. Gonna hold off on this adrift for another month at least. In the center of the Euclid galaxy at the moment through glyph coordinates. Gonna prepare to go through the core when ready. Peace. Sounds Bad the different aspects of thisgame.
Its an arbitrary expedition. To keep players playing. Until their next update. In 2 months. All this can be done in arbitration while playing. But is the reward worth it. The reward has to equal the grind.
"tricks to slow the game down" or "teaching opportunities" so new players can learn how to play the game depends on your point of view i guess... my guess is that long term players blast through the expeditions to earn the unique rewards not any unique game playing.
Asking a company to turn Pac-Man into Space Invaders 6 years after its release is expecting a bit much.
Especially when it's free.
The most annoying one for me was when I had to warp like 5 times to find a planet with robot animals, and then I ended up on a planet with only 2 species when the quest needed 3, so I had to go and find ANOTHER one.
I thought this expeditions you would be alone completely, yet we see him running around with someone else tagging along? Also he didn't repair the ship, just summoned the previous expedition reward out of nowhere? And the multitool with all supercharged slots... hmm.
You forgot my multitool also had 106k damage 👌

@@ProfessorCynical Definitely BTTB. My favorite weapon used to be the Scatter Blaster. I very much dislike it now and get the Pulse Spitter when I can. The Scatter Blaster kicks back so bad I can't shoot anything with it.

It sounds like you’ve imported an S-class ship or MT. Switch to the one the game gave you to claim the reward (part of the reward upgrades the ship/MT; it can’t do that with an S-class so the reward can’t be redeemed) then switch back.
I thank the expeditions are grate there are some Grindy parts but it’s apart of the game.
To me most expeditions are for the newer players w rewards for current players. It shows you the basics and stuff to do with the update. It’s not for the people who’ve played for years it’s getting new players engaged. That’s why it’s on sale every update/ expedition. There’s been worse expeditions there’s been better expeditions. I’m just glad they’re still updating it 🤷♂️
I've got over 10k hours. I was starting Permadeath saves almost daily and playing them for a few hours and deleting them. I still have my original save with over 2k hours on it. I enjoy starting new saves. I also enjoy starting new in the Expeditions. I do agree there have been worse and better Expeditions.

I'm enjoying it so far . I'm almost done about phase 4 .
This one felt like it was rushed, it was more like a beginners tutorial than an actual expedition. I did not like it and I finished it way too fast.
That's how a lot of them are. When they extend the time through time gating, players complain. I say enjoy the rewards and experiment with different combos of iron vulture and other haulers.
What’s next I want better combat,nps , and hostiles
I started it yesterday, used the terminal from an existing save, and in the middle of the opening sequence where the camera pans around and you arent yet in control I got a random green screen hard crash (only happens with my RX 6950, never with any other GPU), reset and it played fine for a couple of hours.
Some of the quest tasks are repetitive, but honestly, I am enjoying the expedition so far. I have never really paid attention to abandoned systems. It does create a bit of a creepy vibe, may have been a good expedition for October.
Update is mid. So much stuff they could had added instead.
This is just a lazy expansion. To have it empty.
The busy work makes me and my wife not excited for expeditions.
Tired of the same old sh*t.

@@mikeuk666 yeah I’ve already started it, just want to knock it out and get the rewards. Doesn’t make it any more enjoyable. People might not like what PC is saying, but he’s right. It’s the same fetch quests and such again and again with expeditions.
@@iLLiCiT_XL After I played it the first time I enjoyed it more the second time. I found out there's a system really close to the starter system with the mechanical creatures. I also finally started using the signal booster to make things easier.
My dude, you don't have to complete each step one by one. You can easily swith between tasks on your way to milestons and let shit like "walk some steps" or "scan some animals" complete itself. The only thing that need to be active in order to be completed is "climb" task. Others will be done in background

Screw light no fire, no man’s sky is the only game that I need. All though the only thing I’m waiting for is gas giants,better stars and ships that I can explore.(I’m not hating on light no fire btw)
Personally I think Light No Fire is an awesome looking game. It's a game I don't think I'd enjoy playing. No Man's Sky is still my main go to game. Hope I never have to give it up. The only thing I want changed now is to make the output the same as the input on refiners. It was a pretty big issue when I was crafting so many stasis devices and fusion ignitors. It'd also help refining mold.

I'm in two minds to run this at all not sure how much I want an exclusive ship and it shouldn't be behind an expedition, none of them should. The grind puts me off every time a new one comes along
