      I met a traveller from an antique land,
      Who said-“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
      Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
      Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
      And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
      Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
      Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
      The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
      And on the pedestal, these words appear:
      My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
      Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
      Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
      Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
      The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

      There is an episode in the future of WML being advertised as Groucho destroys the show. It's dangerous to underestimate Groucho, but I can't imagine him breaking things up any better and any more charming than what Debbie Reynolds did during her turn at MG this night.
      I am guessing that she had already been booked on WML when Eddie Fisher divorced her and married the person she considered one of her closest friends. Maybe she was crying on the inside, but on the outside she held her head high, wore a huge smile and had fun.

      Yes, this illustrates the panel's readiness to pick up on potential laugh lines, even by drifting away from the basic challenge of the game. Arlene and Bennett, particularly, would follow any path that was generating laughs. Dorothy was more focused on solving the puzzle, but even she would occasionally go after a laugh rather than a solution.

    One of the funniest Mystery Guest segments ever!!
    My mom babysat Mary Frances (Debbie's birth name) when the actress was a wee lass. Unfortunately, I wasn't born until many years later so never got to meet her. Even so, she has always been a FAVORITE of mine.

    Debbie Reynolds appeared as a mystery guest several times and used more or less the same voice/shtick each time. The panel knew who it was after she spoke about 3 words. In recalling the series, Bennett Cerf admitted that they often strung out guests that they liked for entertainment value. Bennett also had lunch with everyone in the country at one time or another during his lifetime.

    Debbie Reynolds is gorgeous, adorable and charming all rolled up in one. This is one of the best MG appearances in the history of the show. Those who thought it went on too long or didn't like it have NO idea what entertainment is or what WIT is, Their sense f wit is only half developed. Or maybe not even half developed.

    This was a really fun episode (?) from the get go. Dorothy revealec a more playful side thzt I haven't noticed before.
    Debbie Reynod's is such a wonderful "package" of beauty, wit, and intelligence. I can't fathom why anyone would divorce her. I wish I were born 25 years earlier, I would have married her in a heartbeat, and stayed faithful to her. Alas, that would mean I would have had to be my father's age, and have been doing something that would have brought me to her attention.
    Thank you so very much "What's My Line?" for all your behind the scenes labor (of love, no doubt) to bring these shows to another generation of viewers. This show is such a refreshing change of pace from the current crop of rowdy game shows. Your efforts are much appreciated.

      W T Ju Debbie Reynolds had two rotten marriages. First to Eddie Fisher and, secondly, to a man named Harry Karl, who was involved in a shoe company. Mr. Fisher was an idiot who betrayed her and their children in front of the whole world. Mr. Karl, was much more nasty. He secretly pilfered al her money for years and when he died, she was surprised to find out that she was virtually penniless.

    When the panel sang Happy Birthday to Bennett the owner of the copyright “earned” about $700. The dollar amount may have changed, but from 1935 till 2016 when the copyright claim was ruled invalid, singers of the Happy Birthday song had to pay royalties. How old were you in 2015 (not a typo)? Multiply by $700 and remit your payment.
