No overpriced "survival gear" ... no camouflage costume... just a few basic necessities. Most important.. a simple good quality knife. The wisdom of simplicity. The luxury of efficiency.
I did this as a child in a small spring fed stream in the woods near home in upstate NY. I didnt go to such lengths though. I simply tossed small stones into pools in the stream & watched where the brooks & browns would dart off to, to hide. I'd quietly approach in the water, cloud it up just a few feet upstream by stirring up the mud or sand on the bottom, then reach up under the bank & roots & feel for them while the water was dirty & they couldnt see my hands coming. 1 hand in front, 1 behind. Slowly gently close hands in around them, you can actually touch them without spooking them if you go slowly & gently then grab. Caught so many trout this way. Worked like a charm. I would dam up this 1 larger pool just below my treefort & put all of them there. My little slice of heaven at age 10. Thx for the nice memory.

Been fishing a long time...the only type of large fish that I am aware of are in streams of that size in the states (Northeast / Midwest) are suckers that make their annual migration up small streams in the spring to lay their eggs. As a youth we would wade through the creeks and into the small runs/streams with Coleman lanterns and gigs. Many nights we could gig 50 or so taking advantage of there large bodies...up to 20" sticking part way out of the water. They did not habitate the streams...merely come and went. As I think back I would never do that again as it is extremely cruel and was unnecessary.

I've caught and eaten trout streamside, and I can attest that there is nothing fresher or better than when the fish are eaten literally within minutes of being pulled from the stream.
