I thought I'd start the set of four with a route I know really well. I've never been to the Halo near Haslingden, or the Colourfields in Blackburn, so there are adventures ahead!

Another wonderful video. You are probably familiar with the popular loop route from H.Bridge over the tops to Widdop and then onto Trawden and Laneshaw Bridge and then following the roads you took back to Oxenhope and back over the moors to H.Bridge. Congratulations on getting to the 1K subscriber mark.

That's a good loop, I've mainly done it in the opposite direction, starting via Pecket Well. I've also got an off-road variation from HB to Widdop Res then after a couple of miles of tarmac takes a bridleway to cut out Trawden & Laneshaw Bridge to join the Herders road. The MTB will be coming out soon.

That kind of fly-tipping really upsets me too. They're driving 10-15 miles to dump stuff on the moorland roads - guttering, roofing, old furniture etc. I Googled the nearest KFC to The Atom and it's 7-8 miles away, so they've driven from Colne, had a picnic and couldn't be bothered to take the cartons home.
Aside from that, it's a great area for cycling and I was quite lucky with the weather.

Did you ever see it with the nucleus in-situ?

Cheers, Dave. YT began placing ads a year ago as I approached 500 subs but I had no control over them and didn't receive any revenue. They were badgering me to introduce other 'contributory' revenue features but I didn't want any part of it.
I'm guessing that they've increased the frequency now that I qualify for a slice of the cake. What I'll do :- give it a couple of weeks to let it settle & I'll also watch from my guitar YT account, then if I think it's too intrusive or ruins the flow I'll try to turn them off via 'de-monetizing'.

    • @gordonmidgley8958

There was an immediate ad which I skipped in 5 secs then another at 9:25 which I also skipped after a few secs. Interestingly, when I watched a music video from Clipping In, there was an immediate ad despite this account only having 135 subs. Maybe YT is dealing cards 'one for us, one for me'. Something to keep an eye on for a few weeks before I go nuclear 😊.

Ted Hughes certainly appreciated the expansive moorlands of Calderdale and Dartmoor and wrote about the human impact on such wild places
I wonder what he would have had to say about wind turbines
    Telegraph Wires”
    by Ted Hughes
Take telegraph wires, a lonely moor,
And fit them together. The thing comes alive in your ear.
Towns whisper to towns over the heather.
But the wires cannot hide from the bad weather.
    So oddly, so daintily made
It is picked up and played.
    Such unearthly airs
    The ear hears, and withers!
In the revolving ballroom of space
Bowed over the moor, a bright face
Draws out of telegraph wires the tones
    That empty human bones

    • @clippingin1593

Wonderful writer. I'm quite a fan of Ted - I had a ride to Mexborough last year as a Hughes-themed pilgrimage and even bumped into a former ferryman's assistant who remembered TH as a lad.
There's a superb volume 'Remains of Elmet' from 1979/80 which captures the Calderdale natural landscape as well as the rapidly changing social landscape.
"Moors are a stage for the performance of heaven" is just one fantastic opening line.

It makes them sound very grand, doesn't it? I knew the term from Bentham's all-seeing prison design which influenced Orwell's telescreen concept, but applying it to public art was one a new one on me.
The Singing Ringing Tree has some amazing views on a clear day, but it needs a fair breeze to get the pipes singing.
The other pair in deepest Lancs will be new ground for me.

I can just about manage to stand on the pedals, I think bunny hopping might be beyond me😁
The Pecket Well strips sound worse than they are, especially as I forgot to put a low frequency filter on the audio track.
The ones on the 'balcony track' towards the end of the video are pretty mean - big gappy cobbles.
Funnily enough, I broke my collarbone on that road in December 2005 with ice rather than cobbles being to blame.

For someone living in East Lancs or prepared to drive/train travel then it's certainly feasible, especially if they already know some of the route or are handy with a GPS.

    • @clippingin1593
      @clippingin1593  3 дні тому

@@ajollygoodchap No, I don't want to mislead you here. The original Stoodley monument was a simpler design and served as a memorial to the Napoleonic Wars. Britain went into a huge economic slump with something resembling military rule between 1815-30 and a lot of labour was redirected into constructing public works, follies, towers, roads, and home improvements. The original monument was struck by lightning on the eve of the Crimean War and today's replacement tower was built in the mid-late 1850s.
