Been putting a can in once a year for my cars for awhile now, probably 10 years. Works great! When I add it, I do it on a highway trip to speed up the cleaning “window” of time as it takes me forever to drive off a full tank.
I have read different things on message boards. Some say to start with a mostly empty tank and run it a little to get it into the system and let it sit overnight then run it til it is just about empty then refill the tank. Supposedly it works better as close to full strength as possible.
Was told by PBS Motoweek TV Resident Mechanic Pat Goss Goss Garage Add 44K on near empty tank then refill with fuel at that time. Don't want to use like highway trip that would burn all gas out at onetime. Better like city driving when 44K can stay in tank longer.
I do not know if there is a difference between them or not, but what I know is that it really works to calm the sound of the motor, reduce fuel consumption, and increase the power of the motor Of course, I'm talking about 44k
Humm.. Very interesting... I would hope for a bigger return in the gas mileage. I wonder how this product compares to Sea Foam. The fogger that you spray into your intake.
Sea foam has been kinda proven to be not as good as the claims say. Supposedly Sea Foam was designed for outboard motors (thus called sea foam) and worked good for those types of motors, but not much good for modern fuel injected engines. I am guessing my fuel injection system was not too bad off, but enough to show a little difference. I'm gonna do a few more things like check the tire pressure and change the transmission fluid to see if that increases the fuel mileage any more.
They say if you get the whole BG fuel system service instead of just a can of this it works alot better for built up carbon. However I think the service is $160.
Good to know. I have consistently been getting about 2 miles per gallon more after I used this stuff. It's a12 year old vehicle so I'm not expecting miracles 😄 Although $160 is not bad if it keeps the car running for a few more years longer.
I think that these products are preventive, meaning that you put them in your new car every 6 months, for example.... As for old cars, you need to repeat them more than once to notice the difference
I work at a dealership. All the techs use this, moa, and EPR on their vehicles. You used this the way the can basically says to use it. Best results are when you have maybe a gallon or two left in the tank, then add a can of this 44k. You wanna have not much gas in the tank when using this. The gas dilutes the product to much. I added a can of 44k to my car the other day on a near empty tank, ran it for a half hour from home to work. Then filled up. Noticed instant results. Also use premium gas from a top tier gas station. I go to Meijer. Top tier gas has the best additives.
MOA is best every oil change. Just mix it with your motor oil. Use EPR before an oil change. Add epr to the oil, run the car for 15 mins then change the oil. BG makes amazing products. I live in Illinois where BG is stationed.
we used this at the chevy dealer I worked, had the machine it would spray into the air intake and a additive for the tank the deal ran for 20 mins. and we would definitely see the carbon on our quick 'test drive' after the treatment, in the rear view mirror...but in the long run doing the method you did every so often keeps things clean and gives a piece of mind
I figured I'd give it a try and see if it does anything. It was good that I did notice an improvement. Just want to try to keep this thing running as long as I can to save some money 😄
@@richcombs4805 usually the vehicle was there for other service and the carbon clean was either requested by the customer or suggested by the tech, but the service didn't warrant an oil change
I love Scotty. Before his channel got really big he used to respond to my email questions about my car. I can get like 20 mpg on my van on the highway (2002 Honda Odyssey) but I drive like 65 mph. I may try this tho.
I would also recommend checking your tire pressure too. I found my tires were just a little low. I usually run them at 35 PSI and they were about 30 when I checked them.
I get such great fuel mileage that I have to pull over and let some out about every hundred miles! Also, when trucks are layed over on their side like that, they hardly use any fuel at all.
Thought I was watching Memento for a second...starting at the ending. Marvel Mystery Oil smells fishy to me too. They could sure make that easier to pour in the tank (without a funnel). Need gas light? On my Jeep that's the "You-can-still-drive-back-and-forth-to-work-for-another-day" light. There was another light on my dash shaped like some sort of engine or something. Fixed that one with a piece of electrical tape.
I have heard different methods. The guy who recommended it said to put it in with as little gas as possible to get full strength. I think I had a quarter tank when I put it in. Other people say to put it in with a full tank. Either way works I guess.
I don't think it makes too much difference. The main idea is to get it to dissolve any varnish that has formed in the fuel lines and injectors. I have heard that the best way to use it is to directly inject it through each fuel injector. I have also heard that it is good to wait til you have about a quarter tank then add the whole can then drive it until it is almost empty to get the most strength through it.
When I purchased my 2000 Acura 3.2 new. I would have Dealer service. They would at certain intervals Add BG 44K. It was in their Dealer Service Handbook. Acura Owners manual would say add nothing. I was going to crack a joke, since everyone else did, but ehhh. Myb2 cents is that you've seen mixed results because of not following the directions. Scotto K knows a little bit about a lot of things, but not enough to consider him an expert. I think you overloaded your catalytic converter and/or 02 sensors by running the 44k so undiluted. The point of this formula, as with others, is to add the product to the specified amount of fuel and run long distance miles until low on fuel, because doing so more gradually will result in a slower cleanup of carbon and varnish without fouling up plugs, the cat or the 02 sensors. I run this stuff usually a couple times a year followed by a couple tanks of normal fuel, and then change out my plugs. I have a great running engine already. But notice anywhere up to a mile or two per gallon better, plus smoother pulls.
The directions on the can literally state "Directions for use: One 11 oz. (325mL) can of BG Premium (R) 44K (R) treats up to 20 gallons (75 Liters) of fuel. FOR PROFESSIONAL USE. It doesn't specify that you must use a specified ratio or never to under dilute the stuff. To me, it was just something to try to see if it made any difference.
