  • This is the last of my Svalbard photography series. It was an epic 10 day photo expedition. I already can't wait to go back.

I googled "Blue Icebergs". They're formed from extremely dense, compressed glacial ice that was originally below the surface of the water when the iceberg calved from the glacier. Once the ice that was above the ice melts, the iceberg flips over to reveal the denser, lower part. The blue color actually reflects the purity of the glacial ice and the absence of air. The ice absorbs the long wavelengths of visible light (red) and reflects the blue wavelengths. However, since that ice came from the bottom of the glacier, it also picked up sediment from the ground and possibly microbial organisms, which could also affect the color. Hence, the banding.
This was a truly epic series of videos and I thank you for sharing them.

Wonderful video. I think a photo can never capture the feeling of just being there. I remember years ago standing at the edge of Niagara Falls. The sound alone was a life experience. Enjoy the little moments for they are fleeting :)

There are definitely places like that. And there are also places that are the opposite, places that make a great photo but are actually not that amazing. Haha. They do exist

Those are some of the best shots I’ve seen from either you or Thomas! Looking forward to the big update!

Copper sulphate minerals dissolved in the water. That might do it. But that said, I think JohnDrummond is correct. There are some fabulous abstracts in those images.

I'm not a coffee drinker, but I bet that cup of coffee with that glacier water looked pretty good! I'm curious if you'll have any plans of opening up a Coffee Studio location in Longyearbyen? You could have the tagline - Fresh Coffee from a glacier!

2 days late, but I'm here. I will just say what my brain thought throughout the vid: woah
Also, I don't drink coffee (went to the coffee studio to drink a decaf expresso martini years ago, yes shame on me) but I would totally drink that one in the morning!

Nothing wrong with that. Decaf is still coffee!

@@BrendanvanSon we wanted to go to the Galapagos a while ago, but haven’t been able to make it yet. Every time we go down to Ecuador we have to visit my family, so trying to make enough time for all of that can be difficult. I’d be excited to see what you can do with that lens.
