Epic progression run, Michael. Your ability to dial in a specific pace and hold it is amazing.
Honestly the coolest part about watching a callenge like this from a marathoner is getting to see the heart rate progression. Like 3 miles in a row, you hit a 154 and then at one of the faster paces your heart rate dropped. Truly incredible stuff man!
Why did that happen?
@@v01c3 Can be from various factors. In this case most likely due to elevation. But it can also be wind direction/speed. For less experienced runners it can also be due to bad running form for certain speeds, or just varying attention to running form over time.
the strava pic at the end is a work of art. makes me wanna cry 😭
"Now we're starting to move". At mile 12, at 6:05/mi, lol. This was amazing! What an inspiration! It makes me wondering what kind of progression I could do! I can't tell by the camera angle if these were rolling hills or fairly flat. Regardless, EPIC!
This trail is pancake flat
10:12 “look some cows!” 😂😂😂 i’m glad he enjoyed himself
That's basically what I do for progressive runs, but I get cooked at the 10th mile 😁 amazing content man, keep up the good work!
Never thought I'd be watching a video of someone putting on shoes to heavy metal, but here we are.
shoe changes to heavy metal and potty breaks to elevator music. Give me a camera and the internet and that's what you get lol
Damn you crazy, this challenge had me at the edge of my seat!
mighty impressive, good work especially after a marathon! Must have a good aerobic base to sustain all that effort!
You took a whiz and still maintained my Boston Marathon Qualifying pace. That definitely hurt my ego a little bit there. It would be cool to see a video where you maintain the wattage of a heavier runner but at your actual weight. What I mean by this is that at 7:15 per mile I am doing 460 watts at 200 lbs. I would like to see a video where you try to maintain 460 watts for as long as you can. It would be interesting to see how much faster you have to run at a lighter weight to have the same wattage.
Literally insane! Great run
Finally a man who actaully pushes himself for challenges (unlike tyler speers) 🔥🔥🔥
what did Tyler do 😭
what did Tyler do😭
I JUST clicked off a Tyler video too 🤣
Yeah I don’t even watch him anymore, it’s painful to watch tbh
The call out is crazy
Damn, what a tough guy. Keep up pushing your limits!
i love running the gravel paths out in Orting, the river views are beautiful
lol, come on Michael. "Trying to run sub-8, in the 7:50s is soooooo slow"
We're not all as fast as you.
Maybe someday!
Really. I feel good about being the fastest on my team by far and yet that from michael makes me feel much slower than where I want to be.
It’s pretty much jogging
@@andrewross6682 Just a lil test: difference between running and jogging?
My first thought exactly!
@@andrewross668225 minute 5km is not jogging
Man...I have a crazyyyy way to go to get good, this is hecka impressive. Love the BYU merch. I'll get there eventually
Great video! You definitely earned my subscription to your your channel. Great job! Keep up the great work.
Michael out there just playing around with my threshold pace😭😭😂 Cool long training run idea though!!
That Strava graph at the end is beautiful
Real
That was awesome! Love the concept! Enjoyed the watch....
This is the viral thumbnail and video 🔥
Absolutely incredible! I think I would only get 10 to 12 miles, so 20 is js insane man! I think I'm also gonna take some inspiration from you and do my own version one day.
You know it’s gonna be a beautiful day when the GOAT drops a vid! Awesome work I thought u could only hang on to 5:00 pace
No way! I noticed you have a REP shirt! I just stumbled upon your channel and did the Night of the 5,000's last year, thought that was pretty cool. Crazy run btw ♥
Nice! Yeah I’ve been at that event the 2 previous years, but missed it this year :/
Good video, and yes you did make it farther than I thought
YESSSS!!!
That's what I call a great challenge to document 👏🏻👏🏻
Good work by the way, I was thinking you would only get to like mile 17 or 18 😅
So easy to forget sometimes when watching these videos that Michael is a phenomenal runner 😂
The Novablast 5 is coming soon! Can’t wait to see the review and thoughts compared to the last 4 models. I loved this video, it was so fun to amazing to watch you run those fast oaces
I just preordered it!
@@mottesen_runs Nice! Can’t wait for the review to see if I should get them for track season. I got the fours and loved them. 🏃♂️
You can hear the camera guy out of breath XD
Nice! I thought you’d maybe make it to 20 miles, you killed it!
running a 4:47 mile after already running 19 miles is absolutely insane
That Strava graph is a thing of beauty
Holy negative split pea soup 🤯
Lol "negative split pea soup" hilarious.
Wow, okay! This could actually be a really good workout for me down the line. I recently did the Detroit marathon and was on 3:45 pace until Mile 20, but then I fell apart and it took me an hour to do the final 10k 😖. I’m definitely gonna think about this really cool video in the future! Thanks for sharing
I'm in high school ROTC, and I ran 1 mile for a physical training test. My time was 7:17, and that was me going so hard that I felt myself gasping for air at the end. My time ended up putting me at 1st place in my class... I thought that my time was a big deal. The fact that you can bare all of that fatigue from 19 previous miles, and run a 20th at a time of 4:47 is insane to me!!! Good job!
Congrats on being the fastest in ur class but how is it that in high school running 7:17 is the fastest? I ran sub 7 when I was like 9 or 10
Now start at 4:50 pace and see how much miles you can do by getting slower every 10 seconds
How does it look so slow when you are running 8😂 it feels like crazy when I do
right! and my 11 pace feels like I’m flying ahaha
😂😂
3:00 19 miles
Just subscribed. That was Herculean!
Pretty standard workout when you are trapped on a treadmill. Start at an easy warmup pace (ex. 8.0 mph - ~7:40/mile). Every minute that elapses, just click the button to increase the pace by 0.1 mph. By 40 minutes in you'll be down to 12.0 mph - 5:00/mile.
Love your content 👍
Those are some beautiful-looking negative splits. I think the most I've ever done is 10 like that. I would have to start at like a 10-minute pace to even have a prayer (but give me some slack, I'm 57 years old!)
This is insane. Especially a week out from a pretty solid marathon.
Absolutely amazing
This sounds so fun. Definitely trying it sometime
I’m curious to know what it was like growing up in Puyallup!
You are a beast keep it up
Awesome run!
This is great 🔥
I was predicting you'd fail at either sub 4:50 or sub 4:40, so you were on the high end of my expectations, nice job! I'd be cooked at around sub 6:40 if I tried this challenge, lol.
Interesting challenge and possibly a very good workout
Wooo! Another great video
Extremely impressive and entertaining
this is wild
Amazing effort!!
This is going viral for sure
I'd love to see you try an ultra trail eventually !
Guy goes on negative split run. 😂
Awesome video!
Commenting to boost engagement. Very impressive.
Turned a long run into a vid. Smart.
Nice Video!
How about this challenge: Each mile needs to be at least as fast as the previous one. So the challenge is to come as close to the last time as possible otherwise you got to speed up. Maybe this works better with 400m. Or without a watch on your wrist?
great vid, like branching out, you need money for the fam yuhyuh
Nice run challenge! 🏃
Great video! Now, how far could you go if you start at 4:40 pace and add 10 seconds every mile?
Now that could be a VERY long video haha
The cameraman is the fastest here
awesome video sir🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
valid asf
"Sub 8 is so slow" *cries in 9 minute average*
I actually felt like I was gonna die the first time I went under 5 for the mile. How you do it as mile 18-21 is insane
I’m almost positive I had to poop in that exact spot on the orting trail. I went in a little deeper though hahah
That was entertaining to watch.
Your HR data is crazy! Do you think it hit a celing because of your recent marathon? Or is your HR in low 160s at 10k race pace?
good job staying safe camera man
7:50 slow😃 WHAT? 😮
Fr
This man pushes himself unlike Tyler speers he could probably run a Marathon in 2 hours
love watching the video. but im always converting to km. 😖 can you add convertions next in the screen?
W Cayden!
I usually start really hurting on long runs around 17. My body hurts just thinking about pushing sub 5 min miles then 😅😅
orting trails are such a W
Serious running
FOOTHILLS TRAIL BABY LETS GOOOOO
woah man thats amazing
My mile PR is 6:09 and I nearly passed out in the end. People who can run sub 6 for literal miles just doesn’t compute in my brain. Not to mention 4:xx miles for marathons. That’s my 40 yd dash speed for MILES!!
Hey Michael, awesome video! What watch do you use?
can probably see on strava?
@@Regimeshifts I don't think that information is available on Strava. I at least was not able to find it. If you come across it, let me know!
@@Regimeshifts Ah nevermind, just need to make an account. Thanks! Garmin fēnix 6 Pro
If possible include the paces in min/km aswell. Thanks!
Ah dang I knew I was forgetting something..
We only use American paces
4:47 mile after 20 miles id WILD. Im new to running and started running about a month ago to lose weight. My best mile is only 7:45. Looking to improve and hopefully get below 7 for a mile. Then also be able to run many miles would also be cool!
7:45 is an amazing start for someone that is new! You’ll definitely get it down to 7 mins after a few months
Comment to show some appreciation for this fun video, thanks!
not him 16 miles into a long run breaking my 5k pr pace (17:16)
Yoo, it’s the really long title 10k guy
The most tremendous video ever. I’d get cooked at sub 5:20 lol
this is crazy🤯🤯
Damn this sounds fun. I’ll try something similar but I’ll have to start with 9 min miles 😂 also I would stop my watch because my anatomy does not allow me to gracefully stand and piss
How far could I make it? Staring at 8 minutes, I could make it 2 or 3 miles. Starting lower, like around 10 minute pace, I could make it 8 I think
prediction: 5:00 he loses
edit: end mile was crazy considering this was a week after ur last marathon😅 much further than i thought
after mile 9 i'd be having some problems
Hi Michael great video! I have a question for you unrelated to the video. Do you think taking a week off between xc and winter szn will effect my fitness or no
It will have a small effect, but I still think you should take a the break. It’s good for staying healthy and mentally resetting. The fitness comes back quick
20 miles avg pace 6:10. Ultimate tempo run
Whats that song at the shoe change please?
W brother
