Most of these people are suffering from mental illness and mental illness is usually associated with drug addiction. Exactly. I was homeless, too, and it's situations like this that give the homeless population a bad stereotype. Luckily I got help since I was a woman with a child but that didn't stop some people from being flat out hateful to me. A few times I broke down in tears- I had never been talked to like that. These people didn't even know me and were acting like I would attack them or something. It was the other homeless people that comforted me. I saw so much talent among them, and caring. Guitarists, artists, funny as heck some of them. And one day a fellow homeless person brought a huge watermelon and someone else had a pocket knife and cut it up for us. It was a real treat, the sweetest watermelon I'd ever eaten. And we did not leave a mess. I have come up with a saying: Homeless does not mean hopeless. Look past the grime and into their eyes. They all have stories you wouldn't believe. And really low self esteem. It's amazing what a simple haircut can do for a guy. Love your fellow humans. We are all in this crazy mess of a world together.

Send them to work camps. No work, then no food. No drugs, get meds, learn skills. If they learn to work, then move them to halfway house in cheaper city with jobs. If not, move them to colder climate work camp. These people cost us all too much. Time for them to start paying, not us.

The dilemma is when issuing a homeless person a violation is the reality that they can't afford to pay and then it leads to an arrest warrant then to jail..etc and it becomes a cycle. I don't have a real solution for it but I know handing homeless people tickets is not it either.
Why can't they leave lidded trash cans on every block so the homeless can throw away their own trash and become responsible in some way. Its ridiculous you see none of the homeless helping these guys at all and its their trash!!!!!

Exactly. I've been in California since 79. In the past 5-6 years, this is the worst that I have seen it. And it will continue to worsen. Our tax dollars need to go back to reopening mental institutions. There are a lot of them that don't have the mental capability to care for themselves. A lot of that trash is from hoarding, which is a mental/drug issue. These so-called political leaders have made this situation worse year after year, especially San Francisco and Los Angeles.
I wish all the people who talk bad about the homeless would go completely broke and forced onto the street, only then after you come back like this guy working the clean then let’s hear your opinion. This isn’t easy and human rights always need to be a focus, big picture.

I need to reply to all those saying that the homeless should clean up after themselves, True, But here is the thing they/we aren't being provided with garbage cans or dumpsters to do so. I am living that life due to sucomstanses beyond my control. Yet every day I put my garbage in bags and take them to dumpsters and throw them away. Here is the bigger problem, it is illegal to throw your garbage in anyone's can or dumpster. Be it a personal residence or a business, government or hospital and doctor's office dumpster. And I understand that they pay for the city service and do not wish others people's trash to fill the space they pay for.

Salt Lake City Utah had 500 homeless living on the street. They rounded them up, put them on buses and drove them 300 miles into the mountains No one has been able to locate any of those people There is a video of the line of shopping carts on UA-cam There was a mile of the carts after the buses left All the belongings were in the carts People's pictures, personal items The city trash trucks came within an hour and they had bulldozers that they lifted the carts into and dumped them into the trucks It is amazing how clean salt lake City Utah is. I think Los Angeles could clean up the city if it wanted to The Mormon church got rid of all their homeless in 1 night

Where I live, if your caught throwing a cigarette out your car window, you have a big fine. Give citations for leaving garbage. Arrest them if they leave a mess. Being homeless isn't a crime but leaving garbage is and should be. Make them clean up their own mess. Are they human beings or pigs?

So now they cater to this situation instead of rectifying it. This never ending cleanup will take longer than the cleanup on 911. Same disturbing scene watching these cleanup crews not wearing any breathing protection. This won't end well either considering the diseases that will occur.

Send them to work camps. No work, then no food. No drugs, get meds, learn skills. If they learn to work, then move them to halfway house in cheaper city with jobs. If not, move them to colder climate work camp. These people cost us all too much. Time for them to start paying, not us.

The dilemma is when issuing a homeless person a violation is the reality that they can't afford to pay and then it leads to an arrest warrant then to jail..etc and it becomes a cycle. I don't have a real solution for it but I know handing homeless people tickets is not it either.

I think they should have mandatory shelter for homeless people and really clean up the streets. Give the streets a good thorough cleaning. At this rate and pace especially the homelessness, its not going to get better soon. Los Angeles should step on it hard.

Issue vouchers for every bag of garbage turned in. The vouchers can be redeemed for meals, etc. The city would be cleaned up in a few days.

Exactly. I've been in California since 79. In the past 5-6 years, this is the worst that I have seen it. And it will continue to worsen. Our tax dollars need to go back to reopening mental institutions. There are a lot of them that don't have the mental capability to care for themselves. A lot of that trash is from hoarding, which is a mental/drug issue. These so-called political leaders have made this situation worse year after year, especially San Francisco and Los Angeles.

I need to reply to all those saying that the homeless should clean up after themselves, True, But here is the thing they/we aren't being provided with garbage cans or dumpsters to do so. I am living that life due to sucomstanses beyond my control. Yet every day I put my garbage in bags and take them to dumpsters and throw them away. Here is the bigger problem, it is illegal to throw your garbage in anyone's can or dumpster. Be it a personal residence or a business, government or hospital and doctor's office dumpster. And I understand that they pay for the city service and do not wish others people's trash to fill the space they pay for.

Salt Lake City Utah had 500 homeless living on the street.
They rounded them up, put them on buses and drove them 300 miles into the mountains
No one has been able to locate any of those people

There was a mile of the carts after the buses left
All the belongings were in the carts
People's pictures, personal items
The city trash trucks came within an hour and they had bulldozers that they lifted the carts into and dumped them into the trucks

I can not believe what I just seen, the city cleans up these streets & not allowed to touch anything until they get permission! Where I live, if your caught throwing a cigarette out your car window, you have a big fine. An observation...if you look at the row of tents, it's just like a neighborhood. In front of some tents, trash is piled and in front of some tents it is kept clean and the area kept up.
