Part of the problem is at 2:20 where city workers act like housekeepers for the homeless. The homeless need some tough love.
They need rehab and halfway houses.
They need to be rounded up sent to Napa State Hospital for the mentally impaired, cleaned up then put on farms and ranches and made into men again, yes MEN and shut up Bezrkeley !!!
They need to be force into camps. Burn all their property. Give them mental help & make them into productive people again. That’s how a republican will do it. Democrats are too nice to them.

Cleanup Crew needs to Wear Respirators to Avoid Breathing In Pathogens. Typhoid, Plague, etc...

It's so dangerous for the workers to be going through all that trash with their hands. Those latex gloves are not going to protect them from all those needles.
I have a customer who works for sanitation and said most workers in the department die years before the average life expectancy. They know the risk but apparently the pay is really good.
There are gloves specially made to protect against needle punctures, they’re a bit pricey but well worth it if you’re going to be doing this job

There is a large trash dump where the railway bridge crosses the Santa Paula Creek that has been for over a year. Homeless start fire to burn plastic. Fire Crews cannot respond.
Sophia Brown maybe the city should put up more trash cans and bathrooms. Currently there are only 9 bathrooms for the 2000 living in skid row. Most of these people are suffering from mental illness and mental illness is usually associated with drug addiction. Some people became addicted due to doctors prescribing oxy/vic just because pharmaceuticals companies will pay doctors bonuses for prescribing these drugs. Maybe the people who are profiting from the poorest and addicts should step up and help this community.
Finally, a perspective of the people who really work on this issue instead of just sweeping it under.

I usually defend the homeless (I was homeless myself for around 5 yrs)...except when it comes to this...I always did as I was taught about camping, “leave it better than you found it”...I never understood why they had to trash every place they camped????!! I would tell other homeless, “ no wonder they kick y’all out of places..pick up your shit”....I may have lived in a tent, but I didn’t look it and I conducted myself like I was raised...you know what ain’t cool....
Exactly. I was homeless, too, and it's situations like this that give the homeless population a bad stereotype. Luckily I got help since I was a woman with a child but that didn't stop some people from being flat out hateful to me. A few times I broke down in tears- I had never been talked to like that. These people didn't even know me and were acting like I would attack them or something. It was the other homeless people that comforted me. I saw so much talent among them, and caring. Guitarists, artists, funny as heck some of them. And one day a fellow homeless person brought a huge watermelon and someone else had a pocket knife and cut it up for us. It was a real treat, the sweetest watermelon I'd ever eaten. And we did not leave a mess.
I have come up with a saying: Homeless does not mean hopeless.
Look past the grime and into their eyes. They all have stories you wouldn't believe. And really low self esteem. It's amazing what a simple haircut can do for a guy. Love your fellow humans. We are all in this crazy mess of a world together.

Give citations for leaving garbage. Arrest them if they leave a mess. Being homeless isn't a crime but leaving garbage is and should be. Make them clean up their own mess. Are they human beings or pigs?

It's not just California look at the 50 states statistics of homeless. You will find all states have a certain percentage.
Why not teach/train them how to use a garbage can or dumpster? It doesn't take long and isn't too difficult to understand how they work.

Anyways, like the guys said towards the end of the video, because of the trash he has a job, he probably wouldn’t have a job if it wasn’t for skid row. You can't make money in city contracts if you are enforcing responsibility. Lots of money and graft. This is all a Dem scam. Every major Dem city is plagued with situations that their friends can make money on.
They are building housing units for 140 thous a unit for housing. This is a huge industry.

I was San Francisco in 2007. Several street people and a guy yelling that the cops just shot him in the eye (of course the didn’t), people cussing at me. I know it’s much worse now, but this isn’t something I see where I live. God Bless the Midwest.

I live in a suburb thats suppost about a 15 minute drive from the city but reality takes an hour cause of traffic. As chrysalis employee stared even if it's clean for that day only they will return 6 days a week to clean the garbage. It's their job to continue going back to those targeted areas and clean them up
So now they cater to this situation instead of rectifying it. This never ending cleanup will take longer than the cleanup on 911. Same disturbing scene watching these cleanup crews not wearing any breathing protection. This won't end well either considering the diseases that will occur.
Even breathing protection won't prevent flea-borne diseases, though.

This is a mental health crisis, an addiction crisis. We see the tents and the trash but we don’t see the people and their dysfunction. They need help, extreme help. They shouldn’t be on the street but we aren’t at a place as a society where we can decide that for them. It breaks my heart... I see it every day here in LA. (I walk to work.)

Public Funds finally being spent wisely. Thank for at least caring enough for these homeless people. They are humans beings also and God's Children. You never know what a little bit of kindness and respect for people will do. I am sure it has a positive effect on many down and out homeless everyday. There are thousands of people this helps. Exactly. I've been in California since 79. In the past 5-6 years, this is the worst that I have seen it. And it will continue to worsen. Our tax dollars need to go back to reopening mental institutions. There are a lot of them that don't have the mental capability to care for themselves. A lot of that trash is from hoarding, which is a mental/drug issue. These so-called political leaders have made this situation worse year after year, especially San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Issue vouchers for every bag of garbage turned in. The vouchers can be redeemed for meals, etc. The city would be cleaned up in a few days.
This is so sad it makes Los Angeles look like a third world country. California as a whole needs to put their money in helping out the homeless rather than spending money on the high speed rail to help these individuals get back on their feet.

Oddly conservative cities don't seem to have this kind of problem for the most part. Weird. Guess over taxation and regulations pushing housing cost to absurd highs has some downfall huh.
A sidewalk is city property and meant for the public to walk freely and to safe from being hit by a car. And when the city allows these camps to thrive how they are is very dangerous.

The dilemma is when issuing a homeless person a violation is the reality that they can't afford to pay and then it leads to an arrest warrant then to jail..etc and it becomes a cycle. I don't have a real solution for it but I know handing homeless people tickets is not it either.

I think they should have mandatory shelter for homeless people and really clean up the streets. Give the streets a good thorough cleaning. At this rate and pace especially the homelessness, its not going to get better soon. Los Angeles should step on it hard.
Why can't the town council send every day a rubbish collection van and a small van that cleans street with disinfectant water like in Lindon.
We have this same problem in Ventura County. People burn trash along the railway where the Santa Paula Tourist Train operates on weekends, but the Police are prohibited from acting.

There are many housing programs out there for the homeless. The “problem” is these programs have certain rules and requirements that the homeless must follow (I.e., no drug use, pay a tiny amount of rent, and follow rules). These homeless people refuse to abide by these rules and prefer to live on the streets where they can do all the drugs they want and break as many rules as possible 🤷🏻♀️
The city of LA has 90000 people to give jobs too, use them to clean up the trash and keep the city clean.

I need to reply to all those saying that the homeless should clean up after themselves, True, But here is the thing they/we aren't being provided with garbage cans or dumpsters to do so. I am living that life due to sucomstanses beyond my control. Yet every day I put my garbage in bags and take them to dumpsters and throw them away. Here is the bigger problem, it is illegal to throw your garbage in anyone's can or dumpster. Be it a personal residence or a business, government or hospital and doctor's office dumpster. And I understand that they pay for the city service and do not wish others people's trash to fill the space they pay for.

Societal standards cleanliness and respect are disregarded in California. This is a problem that could be easily corrected with the right mayor and governor.
An observation...if you look at the row of tents, it's just like a neighborhood. In front of some tents, trash is piled and in front of some tents it is kept clean and the area kept up.

its all trash and that is city property.. that's not personal property.. you are not walking into someones house .. this is the city sidewalk.. i guarantee if you just take everything and toss it in the trash every morning.. they will move somewhere else.. this isn't hard to stop.. the city for some reason doesn't have the stomach to fix the problem
