  • Prehistoric Kingdom provides a modern take on the tycoon simulator genre, focused on the creation and management of your very own prehistoric-themed zoo. Once you’ve laid the groundwork and populated it with a large variety of extinct animals, you can open the gates to the public to astound guests from around the world.
    Update 9: Coming Soon
For the past little while, Update 9 has been cooking in the oven. It’s been cooking so well in fact that we’ll actually be announcing the release date in a few short days! As a refresher, this upcoming release will be bringing 3 new animals to the game alongside the Grassland biome, a brand new map set in Tanzania and perhaps most exciting of all - swimming!
The content within Update 9 is super exciting, but we’ve also got some great tech news to share, too! Navigation for both animals and guests will be improved with not just smoother pathfinding, but faster pathfinding. We’ve created a custom algorithm and filtering system that offers a 3x boost in performance whenever an animal or guest decides where and how to get a destination.
Players will also be able to see significantly reduced load times when Update 9 releases, particularly on dense saves with hundreds of thousands of pieces. Improvements like these are all part of our ongoing effort to improve Prehistoric Kingdom’s performance and ensure we can get the game as stable as possible.

Nice to see the PK devs still trucking through development. I remember an interview they did & said they were basically kids when they first started development. I remember hearing about it 5 or so years ago, but I think they started development 10 years ago.

So glad to hear you're back on board with the game! Ever since they got the animal AI fixed(still being worked on, but it's looking to be a much better system) its really starting to pick up, and all the background work they did for those months of silence is finally coming to the surface.

What's important is that you're back in the game, and supporting the devs.
But I honestly didn't really get what you were on about with the rocks, they had been the same since Alpha. In March they updated the rocks (and they're objectively better looking, safe if you want to go for the fakest looking fake rock texture) but it looks like your last video posted in PK is from 10 months ago.
Sure, just like any new builder game, you need to get used to the tools. But the overall opinion of the community is that compared to PZ it's much faster to get a basic idea on the table, while compared to JWE2 there is more than enough customizability.
For anyone doubting the creative options they should pay a visit to the Steam workshop: there are custom prop animals, custom trees, bloody Transformers, complete sets for all facilities, sets of natural features like rivers and mountains, bridges (fully usable by animals and guests), statues and path decoration, fences and I can go on.

It’s really encouraging to see all the updates this game is getting - not just in terms of animals added, but game mechanics and innovating on the standard park/zoo sim formula. The Park Beauty addition is something I would love to see in other games - really brilliant way to incentivize planting and scenery. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for PK.

Hopefully the performance improves significantly in the next update, because that was the one thing I was having issues with when I played it a year ago. So I will definitely give it a try when the update comes out!

I was wondering, the game looks great and I have been watching the development from a far. But for me the visuals are not that important as the management part of a game. So I was wondering, how is that part of the game doing? heard its only really pretty, but shallow.

There are people playing challenge mode but since it's still Early Access, don't expect a fully fledged management system. If you go to their public roadmap on Trello you will see they have plans for several aspects of guest and staff management but there is relatively little information on its implementation.
One exception is the food production system: in a future update you will need to produce vegetables and meat inside your park to keep up demand from your own animals.
Some of the management aspects were tightly connected to animal AI. This most recent revamp does not just add animation fluidity and lifeliness, but also a framework that determines what animals do next depending on their mood: animals might try to escape when they're hungry and frustrated but they might not fight another animal if they are mostly happy but just a little hungry.
Guest AI is barebones, that's obvious at a first glance. The balance numbers are adjusted every patch and you can't speak of a real economy holding things together. Guests will donate more in areas with high Park Beauty, a mechanic that encourages building nice-looking areas outside your habitats, while hiding away facilities.
So far it's fair to expect that this game will try to be innovative within the dinosaur park simulation genre: not just be a mix of JWE2 and PZ but adding its own ideas

2:20-6:29 Excuse me--then why are you here talking about this game and making it seem like it's inferior to Frontier's elementary skills? If Planet Zoo's textures are adjacent to the PS2, then it's funny how you never left from that nest and downgraded to The Sims 4. And the fact you couldn't show us screenshots or your own gameplay to show an before and after comparisons of this game really is shameful.
