Cars sometimes they really can do your head in. If it was me I would probably finish assembling it and run it for a couple of hundred miles see what its like then . the exhaust will always heat up quick if you try your transit manifold after a few mins running that will be the same . It sounds a lot better now with the oil strainer cleaned . If your still not happy then flog it and move on . I have just finished a peugeot 207 and i will be lucky to see a profit I bought it dirt cheap off a family member as a non runner put another engine in it and then the fun started LOL some you win some you lose keep smiling Mark its only a motor and you have learned a great deal from it best wishes Rich

Hi Richard It sounding a lot better thanks but just when I thought I was getting some where with this mini some think else pops up I have learnt so much doing this car and put a lot of content on my channel for you all to see I will definitely not get all my money back but some thing is better then nothing see you on the next project thanks for the support PS I hope you get a bit of profit from that Peugeot

Been following this project right from the start, in hindsight I feel for you mate - the amount of hours you have put into this car really is true dedication taking into account you've not long started out. Sadly I thought as well after the first few parts that something isn't right at all with the engine & you may never get to the bottom of it, and most likely the reason why it was put on Copart before but hats off to you for making great content out of it and at least you can now put all this down to experience. I've been there myself in the past with used cars and one in particular was a complete lemon from the start, cost me a lot of money & many weeks to put it right and afterwards I just lost interest & sold it on - though it really opened my eyes into car DIY & doing a job the way it's meant to be done properly. Will be interesting to see what you take on next but without a doubt you're doing the right thing now by getting rid, I hope you get most of your money back!

@@ResurwreckAutosUK No problem mate, and I can relate about not wanting to quit - but when you're faced with shelling out more money it really isn't worth the bother. Though you should get a good chunk of the funds back - but most importantly now you know moving forward what to keep a close eye on with auction cars. It may also be worth looking into other local auction houses where you can view the selection of the cars in person just before they go up for auction - a much better idea of knowing what you're about to possibly get into & likely the fees will be less when compared to Copart.

Probably should change the oil filter also. Drive it for afew days and change the oil and filter again and inspect the pickup again to get an idea how much rubbish is floating around the block or if it's ok now.

The worst thing is whoever gets hold of this car next is probably going to replace the lump at some point anyway which is probably what you should have done in the first place due to the fact that it got so hot it was always a gamble as to whether you would ever get it back to perfect running order again . You may be lucky after running it for a bit and then change the oil and filter again and re-check the strainer but next time just get hold of a decent replacement lump. On the plus side I'm sure you have learnt a lot from this one and have certainly added some decent content to your channel so keep up the good work.

A turbocharger will get very hot and its why it has a heat shield. Although if it was THAT hot the oil would have burned off. Get it all back together, get some miles on it and then make a decision. Its very tempting to take a decision at each stage. You have everything you need to get it back on the road so clear the DTCs and take a view after you drive it.
Oh and you don't need to list whats been done just put the videos on a CD!

That poor motor must have been red hot to cause all that damage. The minis dont have temp gauges just a warning light when it's too late, bad design. If the pump is clogged then other parts will be blocked, turbo seals maybe fried. Anywhere oil goes needs cleaning mate. When you get it running, and you will, get rid pal. Lessons learnt, next time you buy a burnt motor, change the engine. Cars are cheap with blown motors. Love your determination mukka

I'd be tempted to get that rebuilt head off before you contaminate it. The lower part is full of plastic and the turbo probably is too. If you're going to do another mini then that head will come in handy. The wheels too. Use the rest as a parts car if you have the room. It will pay you back in the end if you stick to minis. Well done for giving it a good go though.

Id be concerned where else that melted plastic has ended up, if its gotten all the way to the oil pump its surly going to be wedged in the oil ways in the block..... Either get shut as it is or throw a different engine in it, that one will never be right again.

Phil's Salvage Rebuilds what you meet to remember is the melting point of the plastic. It probrably was running at a near solid state in the block. It’s overheated & the reason for low compression is probrably it’s picked up in one or more if the bored & rings are stuck. Needs at least a bore & pistons & OIL PUMP.
      It’s the only way probrably.
I’d take the engine out & strip it & get a price on parts & see how that is . or get a short block engine & go with that if the car justifies it. You can obviously do the work yourself so it will be you or someone like you who will save this car. A garage is not an option. I’d buy it for the right price.
