Fun fact: the reason the DS turns on and off, is that it performs a self check, it looks for a connection to the top screen backlight, to verify that it’s working

Fun fact I found out: if you disassemble a Nintendo DS Lite, put it back together without the case, it will blink the bottom screen like you see here.

@windows vista 2 but the Surface is fully made out of glass, and the DS is plastic. And the DS technically survived longer (?) because the screen still did work. Kind of. Also, you need to learn about punctuation.

The reason why the DS screen flashes and turns off is because the top screen has to be connected for the system to boot, so if you somehow trick the DS into thinking the top screen is connected then you could use it as some sort of GBA.

17:53 Well, this is normal behaviour of a DS that can't detect a connected top screen so even if the rest of the system works, it will refuse to do more than blink like that if the top screen isn't connected. Even the 3DS does this I believe.
