Tbh I like most of the songs we do at mass so I can't really complain about that but fun fact St. Cecilia is the patron saint of Music!
"Be not afraid" and "On eagles wings" are the two that would feel the bite of Crusader steel!
Kanye West was baptized and raised Catholic through his maternal grandmother. At the moment he is a charismatic/pentecostal leaning lapsed Catholic. He again and again has made catholic references throughout his music. The overall catholic imagination shines in all his creative work - the battle between a tortured sinner and a triumphant saint.
School Spirit - “Rocafella chain, yeah that's my rapper style
Rosary piece, yeah that's my Catholic style”
Bring Me Down - “We gon' to mass today, we have to pray”
3gifts 3rules: I'm really happy for you and I'm gonna let you finish . . .
The "Mother Mary" in "Let it Be" is Paul's own mother, whom he lost at a young age.
Cool 😎
Hello Savina Zuniga! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Please ban Marty Haugen's 'Canticle of the Sun'. That stupid line which says "come dance in the forest, come play in the field" is utterly ridiculous. St Francis is not impressed, I'm sure.
😆
A few more Catholic musicians of note (although likely lapsed):
Jon Bon Jovi
Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins
Gwen Stefani
Chris Cornel of Soundgarden
Dolores O'Riordan of the Cranberries
Lana Del Rey
Jack White of the White Stripes
Madonna
Arianna Grande
Despite their flaws, a humanity borne of and shaped by their Catholic backgrounds can be seen in the expression of these artists' (and no doubt many others) talents.
I'd ban every song that the parish by my in-laws play as a communion hymn. During Advent/Christmas they play "Mary, did you know?" and the rest of the year the song is almost always a semi heretical song about how we are all Jesuses. -Jess
Cringe...
The Popish Plot I agree with Mary did you know
Gather Us In... so cheesy. Lord, I lift your name on high... cheesy & the text? Hymns are supposed to teach.. the VBS songs I taught last week taught way more than that song. I'm so grateful that these two are not sung at my current parish 😊
Maybe all of them?.... ok, probably on eagles wings and they'll know we are Christians by our love
Probably the worst song I heard at Mass was Lennon's "Imagine." All profane music should be excluded from Sacred Worship. Vatican II mandated that Gregorian Chant should have pride of place in the Catholic Liturgy. More Latin chant and Sacred polyphony please?!
Hello Tim Svea! Thank for watching! Seriously, was 'Imagine' actually played at Mass!?!?!? That boggles the mind to say the least
@@RandomCatholicThoughts You are welcome. Yes, that really happened at a Mass in our parish by a priest fresh out of the seminary who commented that the song "Imagine" summarized his beliefs! I have since returned to the traditional Latin Mass and avoid piano masses, guitar masses, polka masses, mariachi masses, etc. like the plague they are.
