Hearing the music from the first trailer as the boss theme for leviathan is so unbelievably satisfying as someone who waited for this game since that first trailer
Dude, this is the final Eikon fight that was missing from the base game. It’s the end of FF16. The final quote in the DLC is literally a reference to the ending.
We first heard this in September 2020: It is now almost 4 years since then. It’s been a long journey but one I’m happy we got to take. This whole battle feels like a Victory Lap not just for Clive but for the players as well. Thank you for this game Square Enix
That was by far the hardest fight in this game and an INSANELY tight dps check at phase 2. I felt like I was doing a savage fight in FF14. It depresses me that this is the last and final dlc for this masterpiece of a game. I hope Square Enix makes more games like this one. Was so damn good.
Clive: "That's right. Take it out on me." Hard to imagine, but I think Clive was trying to hold back as much as he could, only resorting to as much power as he needed to defeat and not kill Leviathan. He could NOT afford to go overboard with this one. Not saying that Leviathan isn't insanely powerful of course! Clive also had a village to protect, so he also couldn't use too little power. I believe the main goal here was to exhaust Leviathan to its utter limits while not harming Waljas.
I knew Soken was 100% gonna remake "Through the Maelstrom" for this fight, so I spent the entire fight trying to guess when it was gonna pop out. Phase 2 had me hyped like a little child.
After being a Final Fantasy fan for 25 years, I have to say that this game exceeded my expectations. The final phase of this fight has me in tears because of the music. It was exceptionally beautiful.

It's like obito in juubi form, he has better control on it, he can fire four tailed beast bomb at once! Juubi with no vessel is already so powerful, however when someone took better control of its power, it will definitely be disaster!
Phase 2's theme is actually an orchestral version of his theme in FF14 "Through the Maelstrom", no matter what game he's producing Yoshi-P seemingly can't help but slip in a FF14 reference.
I find this whole fight amazing, along with the music. With Clive saying “I will not give up on you!”, it sent me goosebumps. That line alone shows just how far he is willing to go to save a life. I find it amazing at how Clive has used Ifrit mostly with either eliminating his enemies or grievously wounding them. This is the one time where he holds back just to make sure the baby is safe. Being able to control his own power, to show he is his own master.
Phase 2 is literally 'Through the Maelstrom '. Leviathan's second phase boss theme in FFXIV. I like the connection the team made considering who was involved!
Soken pulled these little references throughout the entire game. He referenced Garuda's theme in XIV, Titan's theme, and Omega's theme as well. Since he is the same composer, this game was playground for him XD.

Thanks a lot for sharing this! Hearing the "Awakening" trailer music in all its glory is amazing, and was the best opportunity to close the chapter of FFXVI. I also like the easter egg/reference to "Blinding Indigo" during Phase 2. I died a lot of times while fighting Leviathan _(mostly during the DPS check.. It was a nightmare until I found out that Spitflare is our best friend here)_ , but overall it was quite an EIKONIC fight :).
One of the really cool thematic points of this fight and it might just be me noticing somthing that is not there. However Ifrits flames on his character model almost look dulled in this fight either signalling his disadvantage against water, or the theory I like that when Clive holds back as Ifrit the flames are not as strong. Just a small visual representation that Clive is aiming to save here not destroy.
This moment was truly his "Ifrit arc" coming full circle. From almost killing a child because he didn't know his power to saving a baby's life because he has mastered it and knows how to hold back.
I swear this is the fight that cemented in my mind that this game NEEDS a "retry from checkpoint" option. Even on action mode, the dps check for the fight is absurd enough that if you screw up early on you know you're already dead and just want to die to restart, but it feels like he's intentionally not hitting you very often in the DPS phase.
I picked up on the Omega "escape" nod immediately, but I was so damn locked in during this fight I didnt even notice the "Through The Maelstrom" rendition until watching this video xD
I needed like 7 or 8 trys on FF Mode. Not because of the DPS Check (did it on my 2try) but the attack maelstorm. Still dont know how to dodge it completely. But what an epic Boss fight it is👍

Because he doesn't need to. You already have no room for error as it is.
@@cameraredeye3115 yeah so when I screw up it's hard to die on purpose.
Soken once again showing just how powerful he is.

AHHHHHH! IT'S THAT MOTIF!
He injected the Leviathan theme from FFXIV into the second phase! You spoony bard!
Phase 2 was the battle against my rage and patience lol.
I picked up on the Omega "escape" nod immediately, but I was so damn locked in during this fight I didnt even notice the "Through The Maelstrom" rendition until watching this video xD
Absolutely, brother! I was SO locked in when I fought Leviathan, I didn't even hear the FFXIV song accompanient in the background!
this is almost what it would be like if you fought perfect chaos in sonic frontiers
I needed like 7 or 8 trys on FF Mode. Not because of the DPS Check (did it on my 2try) but the attack maelstorm. Still dont know how to dodge it completely.
But what an epic Boss fight it is👍
Just use brimstone in midair until the spheres appear. That's what most people do.
@@Kendrick95thx. I also tricked it with spitflare. But it should be possible to dodge it.
@red-asassin9817 It's actually simple. When the spiral starts glowing, jump in any direction and dash with wildfire.
@@Kendrick95the only attack I still don’t know how to dodge was water spout. Do you know how?
@@Thelhawk2I used Wildfire(the charge) 3 times to the right to dodge it. Hope that helps :)
I will consider this my last final fantasy game ive ever play because this is my all time favorite of all time
FF mode was kinda brutal with me being lv 90
Speak for yourself, I was level 109 and that thing killed me more times than Omega.
@@azazel166 oh ok. I had to almost play flawlessy to beat the „press the attack“ section and then I died a couple of times to that hurricane, but at least the OST was a banger
@@azazel166 same here I was at 110, I died more than 10+ times on phase 2
Don’t worry I died like 1 time in phase 1 and 5 times in phase 3
Tbh I think every Eikon should have been like that, they truly understood too late that the player loves being challenged.
The boss fight was incredible, but the sigh of relief when we managed to rescue Waljas let me sleep peacefully.
It's strange how in the 1st phase the little eikonic feat button has wildfire's icon and not ifrit's portrait, kinda wish it was always like that the whole game, i like how the eikonic ability icons look and it's a shame we never get to see the ones for the feats outside of the menus
idk why it didnt click how massive leviathan was, id forgotten oh yeah ifrit is already 30 feet tall
Yeah, every fight always makes Ifrit look small due to how massive most of the other Eikons are, so people tend to forget it is *massive.*
@@dinorex3464
And then there’s Shiva who is smaller than Ifrit and everyone else.
@@aoto8897If I recall correctly, Shiva was also the smallest Summon in FF XV compared to all the others. Even Bahamut made her look like a pixie.
Doing this fight in final fantasy mode was a pain 😭
For real. The DPS Check section was insanely difficult.
That art at the end is absolutely beautiful
FINALLY OMG ! FINALLY !!
I will never understand how this game gets so much hate when it's literally so fucking perfect.
So much hate? It’s widely praised by most. Only loud minority hate on it.
Haters gonna hate, by the time the next ff rolls around everyone will swear they’ve loved this game since day 1 lol
Nah, this game is above average. It really isin't that perfect lol
Hydrogen Baby vs Coughing Bomb
Just got past this one on FF mode yesterday. Phase 2 is no joke indeed (took me 8 tries and by the time I managed it, the countdown was at One)
Phase 2 is literally ff14....
The man who made this game MADE ff14
And the god who did the music in 16 is the god who did the music in 14, it's perfect lmao
Now I want to see the other summons become eikons
Yeah would've loved so much to have Alexander, i think yoshi p even mentioned that he would've liked to include him too
4:51 final phase music is easily my favourite 💙
2:34 LEVIATHAN LEVIATHAN!!!
Hit that venom dunk at the end 😂
Absolute cinema
How many times do we have to redo this section old-young man?
Honest to god my favourite eikon fight The press the attack phase took a little getting used to but I’m glad they finally made an eikon fight that felt challenging
HYDROGEN BABY VS. COUGHING BOMB
Me costo mucho vencer a Leviatan en modo Final Fantasy, pero fue satisfactorio haberlo vencido
