  • Levi was born with an Atrial Septal Defect, a hole between the heart’s upper chambers. Dr. Mark Hays of Children's Hospital at Erlanger tells how a nickel titanium “nitinol” device placed in the heart through a blood vessel in Levi's leg allowed his team to “clam-shell” the defect without surgery. Dr. Hays says supporting the American Heart Association helps make this kind of minimally-invasive technique possible.
