      1) The Succession was intended for Mary and William anyway.
      2) the coup was by James II who suspended the Corporation of London and Parliament and even began to pack the universities with Catholics. He was behaving in the same way as his tyrannical father.
      3) James was abandoned by the English and Scottish hierarchy and they 'invited' Wlliam and Mary to come to attend a Constitutional convention to discuss the crisis created by their father-Father in Law. William was also a Stuart through his mother.
      4) When William arrived James's army melted away and when William got towards London James ran for it, there wasn't even a royal guard at Whitehall Palace.
      5) Therefore the Convention invited William and Mary to take the throne as James had abandoned it.
      6) We had reinstituted a Constitutional Monarchy as opposed to a Pensioner Tyrant of the Bourbons.

      Bit sarcastic and bitter there Eamon. There's never been any trouble at Rossnowlagh. It exists because there's a strong orange tradition in the border counties of Tyrone, Monaghan and Cavan. There's actually been very few parading incidents anywhere over the past few years which is what everyone wants.

    • @EamonnKee
      @EamonnKee Рік тому +2

      @WRP63 I am glad those marchers don't cause any trouble in Rossnowlagh. The nice orange marchers are tolerated in the Republic even though that marching business is not very respectful of Catholic or nationalist culture. You know why....don't pretend not to. And Everyone sees the drunken loyalist yobs on TV every year milling around gigantic pallet bonfires in places like Belfast... like mad yahoos burning tricolours and effigies. Don't pretend that doesn't happen either.

    • @WHU63
      @WHU63 Рік тому +1

      @@EamonnKee Ah well Eamon, you'll soon be happy again. It's not long to the Internment bonfires when the union flags and effigies of people in the unionist community are burned. Then there's St Patrick's day when the Irish around the world celebrate the Saint who brought Christianity to Ireland by getting drunk. You said the Republic tolerates orange culture by allowing the Rossnowlagh parade. If there's ever a united Ireland do you think it's going to go away overnight? Celebration of Orange culture will always be here, just like the celebration of Patrick. There are definitely improvements which could be made to both. Maybe an example could be taken from the twelfth celebrations outside of Belfast where there's hardly ever a drunk person in sight, and it's a family day out.

The decisive Battle of Aughrim was fought on 12th July 1690 (Julian calendar) and was originally celebrated on the 12th and the Battle of the Boyle was fought on 1st July (Julian calendar) and celebrated on the 1st. The two events were combined at the end of the 1700s after the British switched to the Gregorian calendar and they have been celebrated since on the Twelfth.
