Amazing footage as always man 👌🏻 how are the thermals on the new ninja ? I have the Plus model and it gets uncomfortably hot so I’m curious if this new one improved on that since Atomos didn’t mention anything about it.

I think that would be a good video! I’ve done it before with BRAW. But I’ll see what I can do for pro res raw
Can you adjust the focus on the FP through the app remotely, or just check to see if it’s in focus?

Ok, I was not expecting to be as impressed as I was by this…this thing fixes a lot of what some would consider to be deal breaking quirks of the FP. Is this the only monitor that allows some sort of LUT support for the fp? That’s a game changer. Im using an Osee g7 hdmi/SDI monitor which I would consider to be one of the best bang for your buck monitors, super bright, large, SDI for like $550 or something. But that log conversion then LUT support…that alone is worth it
The log conversion is absolutely fantastic! I think it’s the only monitor/recorder that does this. I am not sure why more people aren’t talking about it
@@Ansonandco seriously! What an amazing feature. That’s huge. What’s the process to convert the ProRes raw into CDNG? I’ve never done that before
@@Artfulscience1 there are a few transcoding apps. Atomos promotes one called Assimilate, it’s a little clunky, but you can do lossless cDNG all the way down to 4:1 compressed CDNG

As a colorist I'd like to keep the 12 bit cdng files does the atomos let you still record in that format?
You can transcode pro res raw to CDNG yes
@@Ansonandco but still at a 12 bit depth? The difference in 10 and 12 is huge when really digging in and matching a Red or Arri with their footage

Any chance you can record CDNG to ssd from the camera and monitor the raw feed over HDMI on the Ultra? Prefer to stick with CDNG but use the improved monitoring ))
@@SamuelTwyman-td5ow that would be fantastic, but unfortunately not possible. However when you transcode pro res raw for davinci resolve it converts back to CDNG. Anything that I have put out in the last couple weeks with the FP is CDNG converted from pro res raw

Unfortunately, you can only record in 8 bit H.265 with the Sigma FP and Ultra.. You can not record in 10-bit and that is a huge negative. So I guess I will be recording with prores raw all the time. Really disappointed in the lack of record options with this monitor and the FP.
Yeah that’s a little bit on the fp. It’s either raw or 8bit
In the process of looking at an external monitor to buy , I was going towards a blackmagic one purely as I use resolve and thought it would be less hassle without having to have the extra step of translating codecs. But I seem to remember you mentioning there was a bug with the blackmagic monitor display and see that the first reason you give here is judging correct exposure in the field is a reason to get this monitor.
Am I correct in thinking that the blackmagic monitor cant match this ninja on that ? as that is my primary problem I wish to solve is to have a WYSIWYG on a on location workflow as it so tricky at present to balance lights and ambient exposure in an informed manner with the fp.
I like the BMVD for the easier workflow, but if you need to be able to WYSIWYG on set, the ninja is really the only way at this time to get that information unfortunately. if I need to see what I am getting on set I use my ninja, but honestly outside of that I never pick it up because of the workflow
@@Ansonandco Thanks for you reply ! I think it would be great topic for a video showing the issues with the blackmagic monitor versus the ninja, maybe there is a solution out there.Or at least bring attention to the problem , I cant see blackmagic fixing it if the issue is not highlighted.
Hello. Thanks for the video! Can you please confirm if internal EL-Zone in FP is exactly the same as EL-Zone used in Atomos Ultra? I love the idea behind knowing how many stops you are actually capturing and where exactly the middle gray is set. Although, from my personal testing, Sigma FP itself is just not capable of displaying the whole 12-stops range in EL-Zone (going from pure white to pure black color)... The most crucial for me personally is shooting in base ISO 100. But for whatever reason the EL-Zone shows just 9 stops there, which is just not enough for best accuracy in exposing shadows in your scene. Thanks a lot! :-)

I think gtting an externad SSD is better set up, as Atomos is a battery sucker sadly.
Atomos records ProRes raw right ? Not cinema DNG raw format ?
It records pro res raw but you can transcode to CDNG pretty easily
@@Ansonandco yeah thanks mate. I have ninja Vplus.. I use it to record 8k prores raw for Canon R5C, never used it for sigma fp yet..

I believe with ninja plus 120 FPS ProRes raw is possible, never tried though
@@shinzychan5117 it should! My buddy that informed about the log conversion was using just a ninja V. Also almost all the bee clips were 1080p 120fps through the ninja
Whats your thoughts about sigma fp after BM droped new FF L mount camera? It seems that Sigma has lost all meaning after this drop
Hahaha lost all meaning? That’s bit much 😉 absolutely not, it is still a way better form factor. Has actual raw, not compressed raw. Is way better in low light. Rolling shutter is better. Also SIGMA is a way more established company with WAY better customer support. Not to mention it’s $1k less than the BMD cam.
@@AnsonandcoWell some points true ofc but if you add Davinci, External monitor, some xlr solution like zoom f3 money gap gone as for the rolling shutter in 4k on sigma fp it preety much the same as on BM in open gate 6k it gets better in crop mode or even in FHD crop mode but i think same you can apply for the BM camera. So the only advantage over BM is El zone and formfactor DNG over Braw not that better so cant tell its an advantage.

@@prostoparen for sure. All valid points. I have a personal dislike of BMD products, but that is my own bias. But it is definitely a beast of a camera for sure. I’ll probably rent one just to talk about it. I’m more interested in the fact that them being in the L mount alliance means the alliance can use BMD IP. Also sigma is definitely updating the FP, unless they randomly decide to skip a year, generally every spring they have a new firmware update
