    I'm using a fairly cheap disc cutter to cut copper discs, and you can really see the difference on the underside between my cheap cutters and your good ones. I'm having to remove quite a lot of metal round the bottom edge of mine to get rid of the burring, but the discs also 'dome' quite a lot, so when sanding flat (by hand) I'm having to remove loads of the metal to get it all sanded evenly. This is making the discs thinner round the edges, which I don't want. I'm going to try the rotary tools instead, forget about trying to make them perfectly flat, and just concentrate on getting an even finish. There's so much trial and error when you're just starting out! A lot of copper will be ruined before I even think about touching silver!

    Hiya Lady Stardust and Tosia,
    What a great video, thank you both. Well done, Tosia, for showing how well a newby can do with the right help and teaching. Your aunty is terrific at teaching us how to make beautiful art objects. Keep going if you can; it looks like you may have a future with jewellery making.
    Basia, you are the best; showing and sharing with us and your niece is lovely. They all look perfect, good enough to wear. Well done again, dear lady.
    Training us on how to use the tools is excellent, too. Thank you.
    Stay safe, Steve xx

      Hi Steve! Thank you so much, I'm very happy you liked the video and these designs! I really appreciate your sweet comment and words of encouragement. I'm sure Tosia will be very happy too! I've been constantly wearing one of the brass oval disc necklaces since I made them, it's such a lovely and delicate accessory and goes with everything. Sometimes I don't feel like wearing statement jewellery, so on those days something dainty like this is perfect :) Thank you so much for watching, I hope you're feeling ok and doing well! take care, love, Basia xx

    Always love your videos, Basia! Perfect timing as I'm trying to make some stamped pendants. I'm not having much luck though in getting a decent impression. I don't have a brass hammer, but a rubber mallet that I was told should work. I'd be grateful for your advice. Thanks, in advance.🦋M

      Thank you so much, lovely! :) To be honest, I don't think a rubber mallet is great for this job. Get yourself a good brass mallet, they're not very expensive and you can use them in many jobs, you won't regret that purchase. Experiment on a smaller piece of sheet or some inexpensive blanks for stamping. And see what thicknesses give you what impressions. And how many times do you need to strike to get a desired impression. As you could see, despite my silver sheet being quite thin (0.50mm), I still had to strike it several times. I didn't move my stamp though! I just tilted and pressed in different directions, to make sure every part of the design was properly impressed in the metal. It takes some practice to get it right, but you'll learn fast with a few tries and then you'll be very good at it :) Good luck!

    Do you find that the exposed brass in the gold fill causes it to tarnish quickly? Do you recommend plating the edges? I wonder if there would be a color match issue.

    Miss Stardust, I am no longer receiving your UA-cam notifications here in Brazil. Is this just happening to me? If you read this message, I would be very happy to know how I could solve this. Thank you and a hug.

    • @TheArtOfMetalsmithing
      @TheArtOfMetalsmithing  9 місяців тому

      Sadly, it's a common issue on UA-cam, that notifications don't always work... Maybe resetting the bell icon could work? By turning it off and then on again? You can also interact with a few videos by liking them - it tells UA-cam algorithm that you enjoy this content and hopefully it will be shown to you again ❤
