THE SONG - "Rock and Roll" by Led Zeppelin was written by John Bonham, John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page, and Robert Plant. It's the second track on the band's fourth album which was released on Nov 8, 1971. It's also the album's second single released in the US on Feb 21, 1972. "Rock and Roll" entered Billboard's Hot 100 chart at #77 on Mar 18, 1972 and peaked at #47 on Apr 15. It held that spot for two weeks and was last charted at #53 on Apr 29, 1972.
The song was developed from a spontaneous jam. The band was working on "Four Sticks" at their Headley Grange mansion retreat. John Bonham was frustrated with the drum pattern and, in anger, started playing something different - a drum riff based on what Earl Palmer had played for Little Richard's "Keep a Knockin'" in 1957. Fortunately the tape was rolling and the band picked up on it and the basic song was finished in 30 minutes. Plant later composed the lyrics for "It's Been a Long Time" - the original working title.
Drummer Jason Bonham described his late father's drumming on "Rock and Roll" as the hardest Zeppelin song to play. He told 'American Songwriter' magazine, "a lot of people out there try and play it, and really it's a two-handed shuffle all the way through, playing the sixteenth notes, it's not just boom bap-boom-bap-boom- bap, it's boom-boom-bap-bap-boom-boom-bap-bap on the snare and the hi-hat. It's a hard one to play properly."
THE COLLABORATION - Back, by popular demand, are Led Zep experts Alyona Yarushina, Andrei Cerbu, Mike Wilbury, and, of course, Sina. They brought you the very well received cover of "Black Dog" on Apr 20, 2018 and, about a year ago, Sina and Andrei covered "Whole Lotta Love". Alyona has other collabs in Sina's older videos and has a long musical history with Mike Wilbury playing in separate Beatles tribute bands from 1999 to 2006. In 2009 Alyona had some shows in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. With some American musicians, she formed the ALYONA AND WONDERWALL band to play Led Zep and Beatles covers.
On this collab, Alyona plays piano (unseen). On the original Led Zep recording, the piano was played by Ian Stewart who had been a very early member of The Rolling Stones. He also played on "Boogie with Stu" from Zep's album 'Physical Graffiti".

Wow, just amazing to think that these guys just sat down and created this that quickly. Guess that's what seperates the big boys (and big girls) from the wannabes. Plus, the REALLY good drugs. :)
When inspiration strikes, magic sometimes happens. It doesn't always happen even for the big boys but, in this case, it did - to our benefit.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, this group needs to be on tour. They are as good and better than many of the big name bands out there today. They are incredible.

What has always blown my mind, is that music played this way, didn't exist prior to these greats. Music, essentially has died, but you kids keep the rock rocking, strength to ya all.

Man, does Andrei shred that whole song! Damn! Alyona has a great feel for the vocals. Great bass work. And of course, Sina tears it up. Would love to hear Sina and friends cover Moby Dick...that should test her chops.
Blues, Rock n' Roll and its Metal sub-genres are the most overpowered musical genres in modern history. They are so powerful. I sped my car beyond speed limit listening to this. Thankfully no one saw me. ^_^

Andrei's guitar send shivers down the spine, so this must be close to the orig version of this greatest anthem of modern r'n'roll. Alyona's voice is great and Sina pushes the song on masterly. The drum part is not easy. The band plays tight and sparkles young energy💪✨❤

I thought Andrei was going to set the guitar on fire the way he was playing it. He moves so fast with his hands. It is so hard to wait for Friday to come, but yet so worth it. He’s a damn fine player for sure, but without Bonzo and JPJ, Jimmy would have just another guitar slinger. The three of them definitely caught the essence of what LZ was all about. Haven’t listened to all of her Bonham covers yet, but I doubt there will be any disappointments.

Andrei und Sina haben ihren sound gefunden und er steht klassikern wie Led Zeppelin in nichts nach ... er ist der beste E-gitarrist, sie die beste schlagzeugerin "hier auf UA-cam", beide beherrschen ihre instrumente perfekt (und Mike natürlich nicht zu vergessen; macht er auch soundmischung und video editing?). In Alyona musste ich mich erst mal reinhören, aber ihre stimme hat power, was besonders gegen ende herauskommt, daraus kann noch viel mehr werden! Also macht weiter in dieser aufstellung.
