Take a file to the blade guard / riving knife support and file the front to a taper so there is no blunt edge to catch on material as it makes contact. This saw is really best for balsa, basswood and ply.
For cutting that carbon plate you'll need a better blade. Proxxon sell a tungsten carbide blade that's specifically for this model, but it'll set you back about £40. The one provided is a bit of an all rounder that's fine for most materials, but has its limitations.
i dont have one but i ordered one and i did some reaerch and it is recommended to use the diamond disc for carbonfiber fiberglass pcbs and so on. practically everything a maker would cut. yoyu can also remove the guard by taking the top plate off and unscrewing the guard
I have just bought one before I looked at your review. Looking at your review and then looking at why the saw blade binds up, I discovered that the saw blade is offset. My offset is relieving the saw blades back edge if you have the fence on the left side of the blade. This should eliminate the jamming of the saw blade between the fence and the saw blade. First up, check this is the case. I hope that helps you. 😉
So now you've had it a while, how are you getting on with it? Mine was brilliant until the stock blade went blunt - replaced it but it just went blunt again after ripping a 10 inch length of 1/4 inch oak and I just can't get a blade of the original quality, and at ten GBP a go, I gave up. The motor supressor coils burned out - both of them, you can't get a repacement motor from Proxxon, once you've paid your money they have no interest in you whatsoever. I'm glad you seem to be happy with the saw, I just wish I could say the same. Sadly mine ended up in the bin a few years back.
To be honest I’ve probably only used it a few times since originally opening it. It’s fine when cutting small bits of wood like balsa. Anything else then you would need to change the blade which I’ve not done yet. The stock blade struggles with carbon. I’m not surprised oak caused it to fail. I fancy trying their scroll saw.
Great video. Was about to buy one but then I thought “let’s check out UA-cam first”. Great real world use video, highlighting enough issues to give me second thoughts. Surprised that it is single speed, noisy, and getting the material past the guard bracket is an awkward. Noticeable slow-down with thicker materials, but as others have said the carbon would have probably cut better with a different blade. Overall, I was left underwhelmed.
Thank you for the feedback and watching the video. I’m sure it would be better with a different blade on it. But it does have the other limitations that you have pointed out. I don’t actually use mine much
Seems like a scroll saw would be better and not limited to straight cuts. I would like to try a laser cutter/engraver. I think you could also use an oscillating tool with the little aluminum miter box they sell in hobby stores.
I'm kinda not a fan of the notion of "youre gonna cut small things, lets make everything really small then, including the distance between the blade and your fingers"... this really screams for a sled. One without a bottom so it does not take away from the already small cut depth.
Take the owl in wrench. On the back of it, you'll see a round piece with the Allen wrench head in it. Unscrew it and it takes that guard off. And number two, buy a blade with multi teeth that is not there. cheap blade I have multi different blades for The One I have. with a nice blade cuts good.
Proxxon’s safety guards are universally terrible! Their miter saw blade guard is so poorly designed that it’s basically impossible to see to line the blade up to a mark on the stock being sawed! I’ve got the FET table saw and find it great for work in its size range. I’ve never even put the annoying guard on it! On the FET, I’ve found that using the thinner stamped blade instead of the much more robust carbide tipped blade is the way to go!
That’s good feedback and great to know. I do like the size of the saw and appreciate it’s made for modelling and will have limitations due to its size. I would look at their other tools regardless, but know there could be limitations.
@@MattTakharRC Don’t know if you’ve ever heard of the Jim Byrnes saw, but it’s evidently the same size and built a bit more robustly. It’s very popular with ship modelers, and it was through Kevin Kenny’s UA-cam channel that I learned of it. Byrnes recently passed away and I don’t know the status of his various machines going forward. They’re pricier than the Proxxon FET though!
Any table saw will jamb up when you twist the material slightly. Even the large ones. This thing is tiny, the blade is labouring from side friction, not cutting ability.
I generally like Proxxon stuff, but this looks afull.. Sometimes I dont know who they think would pay a premium for some of there stuff.. Latley looking at there calalogue of stuff, its starting to look more and more like expensive toy products.. Cant take half of there stuff seriously.. Like the mini lathe and now this..
@@MattTakharRC When pushing, the speed of the machine decreases and you can tell by its sound. I am waiting very little so that the engine speed rises and I can push it again at efficient cutting speed. You should not continue to push when the machine speed is forced, in my opinion, you should wait for the least.

Yeah that's a fair comment. I was pushing my luck when I filmed this!
I was thinking of getting a model making sawbench and having watched your review I wouldn't touch this one with a bargepole. Thanks for the review.
I’ve hardly used it to be honest.
Isn't that a soft wood cutting blade in there by any chance?

Thank you! I appreciate you leaving feedback, I’ll check to see if mine is the same 👍🏽
For some reason this reminded me of the Kenny Everett “Glue” sketch!
Great video, I think you’d be better off with the Proxxon band saw mate.
I'm sure it will be my next purchase, it's on my list! I noticed you have one.
Good review, Thank You

A scroll saw would be better. You get what you pay for really. This was cheap!
I fancy a laser cutter too. Just need more space first.
Yeah but will it cut hotdogs?. I feel a “will it cut” series coming on 🤷🏼♂️😊
So tempting... will it cut... my finger! (knowing my luck)
I presume you can’t adjust the height of the blade?
No, not that I've seen which is a shame.

Looks like it'll cut fingers well but not so much anything else...
That just about sums it up!

I've just looked them up. They look really nice, Sorry to hear Jim passed though. Hopefully the business will continue in his name.
Nice it cut it 😂😂😂 you can cut balsa with a ballpoint pen
🤣🤣
There are no depth settings?
If no is just pure crap.
It has a sliding rod type system which allows you to measure. It doesn’t fit in very securely to be honest.

That blade looks strange … maybe google for a better blade
Good idea!
Might be helpful if you knew how to use a real table saw.
This was my first time using one. What tips do you have?

Prima di fare recendioni bisogna sapere cosa si fa, e come si lavora, cosa che te non sai
Covered in grease is to keep it from rusting in shipping...lol sure it comes from china
It will probably end up back there! 🙃
