    The Okuma Classic XT CLX -300 L you have... What do you think max that reel can handle as far as trophy flatheads and blues go??

      I catch fish up to 60 lbs without any problems. Good drag system and very smooth to cast

    I know there are catfisherman that use lighter lines and have caught some huge catfish on 30lb mono etc... but I feel like heavier lines like 50lb to 60lb mono is a safety net in a way. There is just more durability with heavier lines when dealing with a fish of a lifetime with structure involved on the TN River. Just loaded my Shimano charter special TR2000LD with 50lb mono and feel good about it too......

      I use lighter line when drift fishing at times. It seems to work better in low flow. When anchor fishing I go pretty heavy, especially anchoring in heavy current. The Shimano charter special is a great reel. Tight lines!

    Does the Okuma free spool lever disengage when you turn the handle or do you have to manually disengage it by pushing the lever with your thumb?

    • @ChattCats
      @ChattCats  8 років тому

      +Edward Kelly You have to manually disengage it.

    Do you have any experience with the new Abus? I got the 6500s (made in china) and have heard terrible things (and good) about it, and for 65$ I'm still debating whether or not to get one of those Okuma's instead.
    I have an older Abu 6000 (made in Sweden) that I love, and I just cant see myself spending that much more money for a current Swedish model.
    Have you heard any comparisons between the Okuma classic and the new 6500s? I'm on the fence still if I should cash in and save a few dollars.

      I haven't heard any comparisons. Try out the Okumas. I think you will like them. Tight lines, DJ!

    how big catfish can I catch on 25-30lb line? (mono)

    • @ChattCats
      @ChattCats  8 років тому +1

      You can some big fish with 25-30 lb line. I would say that pound test is good for 20-40 lb fish.

    • @anthonyt3242
      @anthonyt3242 6 років тому

      You can catch as big as you like as long as your poles can handle it and you use drag, pending you can fit enough line on it so you don't get spooled from a monster

    Please - it is level "wInd" - as in "wind your watch." It is not "wind" - as in "the wind is blowing." Please please, PLEASE get this right.
